Well you know until they marry Tiffany is her parent's responsibility both financially and spiritually, so they are ok with marrying their own daughters young because this means one less person at home, more security that the girls stay in the field, and more grandbabies for KY and G. Take another girl in the family instead it means especially in Lawson case that they have to support them and all the eventual kids they will have because Lawson doesn't seem to have a stable job who could pay for the family. Or at least this is how I see it

I’m sure she keeps the money she makes from acting. Do we know if she lives with her parents?

According to his insta stories Lawson got a haircut with Bradley and one of his younger brothers yesterday...not a mask in sight. That's so infuriating.

Here you have to be vaccinated or have a negative test from the same day to get a haircut. And of course everyone wears masks.

I think the engagement is a done deal, it’s just a question of negotiating how much money they can make from the announcement.

A salon is such a tight little space with so much personal contact (frequently for extended periods).... I would be seriously upset with no masking

Tennessee said no to mask mandate a while ago but I don't know if they're like Texas where you get fined for having a mask mandate in your area (but not when you can own a gun sans license but that is obvi another topic haha). I just got my hair braided since being fully vax and wore my mask while getting it done for 4 hours.

Especially with kids that won't qualify for a vaccine for a while but again the Bates would have to care about others and then never do.

People here just go to get a haircut when they want one. My family and I have gotten haircuts for months. The salon is pretty empty, and we all wear masks, but actually getting a haircut isn't a problem. And our covid rates are dropping!

Next time I go, I think I might have to show my vaccination card. That's not a problem, since my whole family has been vaccinated for quite a while.

States in my area are ending all restrictions in the next few weeks. So everyone can get a haircut just as they did in 2019, very shortly.

A negative Covid test actually means very little because of the test's unreliability. So I wouldn't depend on that. Covid tests are notoriously unreliable, just like the rapid strep test.

I hate this attack fundies are doing on the “you are enough” idea. And yes Tiffany, I’m sure the authors of the Bible meant for their words to be read totally out of order instead of in the context they wrote them. I could advise you to read sentences out of order in literally any book and it could mean anything I want it to mean. ?

This sounds like the kind of shitty infomercial you see at 2 AM. "His gift of salvation is totally free, no secret agendas or hoops to jump through!" "Want more information? Pick up a Bible..."

Does this schlocky rhetoric actually work on people?? Or am I just really atheist? I hear sales language like that and I am immediately turned off. It's a religion, not a shamwow.

I guess it's possible that they have a different, more accurate test. I don't know. I do know the ones in the US can't be relied upon, particularly the negative results.

But you've gotta work with what you have, you know! I suppose they're better than nothing.

I looked at the NYTimes stats this morning, and God, the cases are dropping fast. It is so refreshing to see good numbers, after months of gloom. It means fewer deaths and less disability.

There is no way you could know this but I have a cat named ShamWow and he is a cult leader.

He doesn't work, has no income, yet lives very well grifting food, shelter, and cuddles from his loyal followers.  He thinks everyone in the home lives to serve him at his pleasure....good thing I got the little guy snipped before he could turn my house into 19 kittens and counting.

Okay, I tried ignoring but I have to correct this because it's wrong information about Covid. From everything I've read and heard about the rapid tests have problems with false positives but not with false negatives. If you get a positive rapid test you're supposed to have it confirmed with PCR test. A negative result from any test isn't a guarantee you don't have Covid though, since you could have it and just not have a high enough viral load for the test to register. But in that case you're not likely to be very contagious. That's why these tests are supposed to only be valid for the day they were done.

I know the US is behind with testing, but here home tests have been on the market since March, and they're about $5 each. There are also free walk-up testing centers on almost every other block. Lots of people are getting tested multiple times a week--it's how we've broken the 3rd wave here. At the moment you need a same-day negative test (or be vaccinated) to visit any non-essential business, and people are strongly encouraged to do them before meeting socially as well.

The stuff about surrounding anxiety, etc. is really disturbing to me.  I am close to someone who has suffered from severe depression their entire adult life and as they are fundy lite they continually try to give it to God.  If it worked I'd be all on board, but as it doesn't they continually blame themselves for failing to trust God, which they feel is a sin.  Adding an element of intense guilt and shame onto struggles with mental illness is unconscionable to me, but their "church family" just keeps praying for her to have the strength to trust God so he will take away her mental struggles.  And they feel shame for taking the medication for their depression which does help quite a bit...because if they had enough trust in God they wouldn't need it per their "church family."

Fortunately it's not enough to dissuade them from secular professional treatment...but so many people today suffer needlessly because they buy into praying the sad away as the only acceptable treatment.

Prosperity gospel offers the hope of untold riches if people just believe, but offering hope of delivery from mental illness as if the human psyche is some kind of magic etch-a-sketch is worse as it preys on people who are hurting and desperate for some peace.

I hope someday she matures to the point where she can see how simplistic and tone deaf that comment was, but not holding my breath if she's chugging Bates flavored Kool-Aid.

It was actually Erin who joked that they might have to wait because she was so young. I dont recall Lawson saying anything.

It is odd that Erin thinks Tiffany is young, when Erin's sisters are marrying in their early 20's. In fact, wasn't Erin only 21 when she married Chad?

She was. And the oldest to marry (Michaella) was just 23. It seemed like a joke about the age diference, but even that doesnt make much sense since she herself has a 4 years age diference with her husband.

Edit: maybe she just thinks she is immature, and that was a nice way to say it. I mean, she is. But not more than Carlin or Katie TBH.

Erin was 22 (Born May 1991 Married Nov 2013) and Michael was 25 (Born Jan 1990 Married Aug 2015). Still so very young. It’s sad that Michael probably felt ancient being the oldest to get married out of the girls when most people aren’t even thinking of marriage at 25.

You are right, i was thinking on the recent Duggar Data (tumblr) post on Esther and Nathan engagement where she mentions Michaella was the oldest female in the family at courtship at just 23. Didnt remember she had such a long courtship that she ended marrying at 25.

Michaela was the oldest at 23! That's amazing. Yet Erin says Tiffany is "young."

In fact, Tiffany does seem young for marriage. Maybe when a young woman is pursuing a career or schooling, she appears differently to the world--like she still has lots to do. Even to Erin, it feels like Tiffany should wait to settle down (and, imo, find a better guy as well).

In contrast, if you are sitting at home schooling your siblings, an early marriage feels more appropriate (even desirable).

I think they are all marrying too young, but I've kind of gotten used to it with the Bates. Twenty or twenty-one is starting to feel "appropriate," though I'd be pretty unhappy if my own kids married at this age.

Where do you live, so I can avoid that place?

I'm in northern California.  When the initial shutdown happened, I had an appointment the following week that was cancelled because all salons were closed.  My hair dresser dropped off pre-mixed color and I applied it myself and afterward, cut my own hair.  I mainly just wanted to cover the grey and since I was staying at home, didn't care if the color and cut weren't perfect.

The next time, my hair dresser came to my house, we were both masked and she colored and cut my hair.  We did part of it outside on the back deck.

Once salons were allowed to reopen with restrictions, I've had my hair done there.  Everyone is masked, only a limited number of people (staff and clients) allowed in at any one time, etc.  The salon has masks on hand for anyone who forgets their mask, and hand sanitizer.

Anyone running around like Covid is over is just plain stupid.

Yeah I’ve had my hair done twice since last March, one cut and one cut and tone for my bridal trial before my wedding. My SIL is my hairdresser and she’s a phenomenal stylist, but I haven’t been back into her salon since September when I walked in and she told me I didn’t have to wear a mask if I didn’t want to. My city’s cases then were exploding due to schools reopening at the time, so I told her I was okay to leave it on. I also wore a mask to her daughter’s, my niece’s, first birthday party and she laughed at me and said that wasn’t necessary there. So a 1 year old was surrounded by 20+ unmasked adults who could’ve easily given her Covid and my SIL didn’t care. But then my SIL threw a fit at Christmas because the applesauce my FIL gave my niece wasn’t organic and she said that they don’t put anything harmful in their bodies and that would include any preservatives or vaccines for the baby. I just shook my head and my SIL told my husband that we’d understand once we had kids. I can’t stand the people who act like Covid is nothing and like they’re so much smarter for parroting whatever incorrect information they heard or read online.

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
