True, but how many of them are actively temperature tracking? I got the impression many of them actually are just letting it happen, like Kendra. And if that's the case, they wouldn't know if they were someone who ovulates during their period or has small periods while pregnant, so there really wouldn't be a very safe window.

And maybe it's just me, but I'd be terrible at keeping track in my head of when I last had my period and when my husband and I had last had sex. I completely forget the start date of my last period if I don't mark it in my date book.  If I were Quiverfull, I'd forgo the pina coladas only to avoid having to do so much damn math. ?

In that case you buy the cheap pregnancy tests in bulk off Amazon and take a test every time you want a little drinky drink ?

I wonder if JB’s questionnaire covered potential suitors’ alcohol consumption?
I can see Derick saying ‘ I said I don’t drink- I didn’t say anything about sitting back while Jill necks a cocktail’!

There used to be a questionnaire floating around IBLP. I tried to find it but couldn’t.  I can almost guarantee though that JB would have asked about things like drinking and homeschooling.  He probably never asked about nose piercing, though.

Gothardism really places the blame on the father if the marriage turns out poorly, and if Derick is even just allowing Jill to do what she likes, much less encouraging things like therapy, JB will view this as his own personal failure. He didn’t vet Derick enough or was fooled or whatever.

JimBob's failure was turning his back to his firstborn's curiosity and then allowing said kid to ASSAULT his sisters. He sacrificed everything at that point. Sure, it was only 4 out of his 9 daughters, but his son was 1 out of 10.
And ALL in the family have been touched by this. Even JD said he didn't want to be like his older brother anymore. And then J went on to wreck his own family. Because of all the taboo's and learning that he could just not be held accountable for things.

Now, we can't change the past, but if JB would have been a real FATHER, he would have allowed his kids to ask questions apart from turning normal healthy development into a huge sin. He would have supervised kids, or had people supervising his kids. He would have gotten real help for a kid that had issues... But shoving it under the rug? Bravo, JD. You win the Father of Year award--the LAZY LOSER edition.

Has he specifically stated that he doesn't drink at all?  I feel like he might drink a bit of wine and probably pretends to be a wine snob by tossing around wine buzz words to impress Jinger, who doesn't know any better.  I think he just keeps it off camera to stay 'on brand'.

Why did I think he was a recovered alcoholic? Or am I expanding on his partying and getting arrested

Holy moley, someone partying and maybe getting arrested for a bit of a noisy night does not make an alcoholic.

Dislike of Derrick aside, for what its worth he was the best thing that could have happened to Jill...with a different godly man she would not have cut her hair, send her kid to school, wear strappy tops and have a drink. Chances are she would have died in childbirth by now - judging how well her two times giving birth went.

I don’t remember him saying he was ever an alcoholic, but I do recall him saying there was nothing wrong with having a glass of wine with dinner.

Well clearly and I do think it was Jeremy. I just couldn’t remember his story exactly

Yeah I think he was just a normal guy in his early 20s who partied occasionally and maybe just a little too much one evening.  But that doesn't make for a good redemption story so he made it sound so dramatic that it came off like he had a problem.

They’re not accurate at the very beginning of pregnancy. One or two drinks probably won’t hurt, but if you’re a fundamentalist conservative breeding for Jesus, that’s the kind of thing that will make your pina colada non-alcoholic. I wonder how many of them start drinking after menopause?

I'm so happy for her tho!

Disclaimer: I'm not promoting alcoholism in any way.

I just think a healthy relationship with alcohol isn't the worst thing ever. Shabbos starts with wine being passed around the table. Nothing wrong with a drink here and there. The joy of a drink at dinner or sitting around brunch with girlfriends is amazing. It's good for the soul. The fact that she broke out of 'omg gd forbid if I drink anything I'm going to hell' mentality is huge!!! It's such a psychological break. A pina colada isn't crack cocaine.

still that does not make one an alcoholic.

I remember clearly having been drunk a few times in my life, even belligerent and forgetting people lol, but i stopped drinking all on my own and was never an alcoholic.  Being a young bloke, jeremy or Derrick or any other young bloke being drunk is something that happens during a time of growing up - also happens to the 'lad'ettes', but to think about these guys or myself as an alcoholic is very very far fetched.

I'm really surprised too. Most skirts-only people will still admit they don't believe it's a sin or a salvation issue to wear pants. However, the majority of teetotaling churches most certainly believe alcohol is a sin issue.

Heck -- my Granny was born and raised in the Deep South.  She was also a Pride-marching, single payer healthcare advocate since before Bernie was potty trained, "vote Democrat bc it's better than the alternative", Socialist.

And even she thought drinking "spirits" was a one way ticket to Hell.  That didn't stop her from keeping a bottle of homemade moonshine cough syrup in the fridge, mind you.  But, that was strictly medicinal.  ?

I don’t think @Daisy0322 was calling Jeremy an alcoholic. She was trying to remember if he said he had a problem with alcohol. Many people, even in their 20s, consider themselves alcoholics so it’s not really impossible to consider. Jeremy needed a good testimony so he shows himself as a reformed bad boy. I don’t think he’ll ever really go into depth about it. I also think that Jeremy would love to be a wine snob and share his knowledge with the world, but John MacArthur isn’t a fan of mixing alcohol and theology apparently, so I think Jeremy will be very careful not to reveal too much.

I hope this kind of thing does not make her revert back to not doing it. I have to assume by her posing with it and admitting it was alcohol she was aware that it would make news even if it only stayed on instagram. It reminds me of the fucking stupidity of jinger chatting with her parents about wearing pants and fucking crying (if I recall correctly). Was she the first or was it Jill.? With all the (good) shit Jill has been up to lately I cant believe that Jinger pipped her at the post, for pants.

I think Jinger was the first to wear pants or shorts publicly on her Instagram pictures. As we’ve seen recently all of the married Duggar women do wear pants but those taking the TLC money either keep it hidden or use it as a story line like Jinger. The Duggars like to rewrite history so now they’re saying it was never a hard rule - just like they now say they did watch TV whereas before they used to say they didn’t.

They also all seem to have apple watches and despite Jeremy claiming he had no apps on his phone  he managed to post an offensive tweet and then had to apologise to Jinger...

I’m still sceptical about the Dillard’s core beliefs but of the marrieds they are the most honest about changing their minds on some of the Duggar ‘principles’ .

Yes thank you that’s all I was saying ?. I was drunk from the ages of 15 to 24 when I got pregnant and I’m no alcoholic, i just like a party so i understand the concept I just didn’t know what he told people.

The headlines about Jill's Piña Colada are so sensational, you'd think she was going on benders! That being said, I wonder if Jill's been tipsy/drunk? Somebody upthread said something about Jill doing a show where she tries and reviews cocktails. I'd watch that! I guess she'd have to do it weekly and just have one cocktail per filming, otherwise it might turn into a messy drunk tell all (which I would also watch).

I’d love to know how many of Jill’s siblings would follow her footsteps if they weren’t on the show anymore, either. She and Derrick are figuring out their own way and I agree with earlier posts speculating some of the others might be jealous of Jill.

Jill could be a Duggar commercial: Get off the show and you too can live the life you dream of!

Unfortunately I think the show reinforces their beliefs. They were super holy and then the show and TLC came and “God provided”.

ETA- I think having a son first then a daughter to help sister mom is like the fundy wet dream. A lot of them had had that or close to it which I would imagine they’d precive that as a reward from God.
