This may have been posted before, but on the 14th of May, Mr. Jill Duggar tweeted, "Sounds like Matthew 24. The end is getting closer every day! Christians, we need to persevere in telling as many people as we can about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, with all gentleness, in truth and love!"

He sounds like he's truly believing that Christians will get raptured up pretty soon, or that the end of the world is nigh. I suspect he's retweeting the news about the Jerusalem embassy with the thought that soon enough, he'll become part of an elite heavenly squad while the sinners burn. People who think that the apocalypse will soon begin are rarely stable folks, and he just keeps demonstrating this again and again.

Christians have been saying the world is about to end for the past 2000 years. Pandemics have been raging, people have been killing each other, and volcanoes have been erupting for far longer than that. This is why a decent education in history is so important.

Maybe Derick's aiming to start the next end-of-the-world cult. It seems to be a lucrative business, and if you're wrong you can just pick another date a few years in the future and start the whole cycle again!

Although, to be fair, he's totally right, the end is getting closer every day. Just, you know... logically speaking. That is true. :pb_lol:

Ugh. Derick, step away from Twitter. How about you actually play with those two young sons?

I didn’t see this discussed (I may have missed it), but The Ashley has a story about Derdick whining about TLC’s new show, Lost in Transition, which takes the perspective of the partners of people who come out as trans. http://www.theashleysrealityroundup.com/2018/05/21/derick-dillard-criticizes-another-transgender-themed-tlc-reality-show-implies-stars-of-lost-in-transition-are-mentally-ill/

Any one else notice that he’s only vocal about members of the LGBTQ community who have shows on TLC? He doesn’t talk about other celebrities (Laverne Cox, Caitlin Jenner, Chaz Bono) or shows (Ru Paul’s Drag Race, characters on Orange is the New Black, etc). Just TLC stars. It just makes it look even more like something went down with TLC and that he did get fired. He’s obsessed with other TLC shows and throwing fits over TLC casting people who he thinks are unworthy. It’s just pathetic.

Didn't a lot of people mention that most US hospitals wouldn't allow you to attempt a natural birth after you've already had a c-section?

And having multiple c-section would really limit the number of kids you'd be able to have. (Around here, the recommended limit is 3.) And this is why they wanted a semi-legal homebirth (without a proper midwife)?

I believe doctors will allow you attempt do a VBAC, but you’d be carefully monitored and doctors would probably make it clear that another C-section is a possibility.

Derick is 100 percent the type of person that when his kid asks if they can go to the bathroom says “I don’t know, can you?”

i know it.

I had an English teacher who did that. She also liked to make the answer to question 6 “C” on multiple choice tests so when we were going over the answers she could sing, “I’m too 6-C for my vocabulary...”

I liked her.

You have zero proof that we had 2 failed home births.

um - yes we have proof that that you had 2 failed home births - WE saw JILL AT THE HOSPITAL have a csection.

he is a dumbass.

Tell him please someone.

Rufus bless, I saw this thread was hot, jumped in on the last page, and when I saw births being discussed I thought that slimeball impregnated Jill again. It’s early, but I need a drink.

It's May - I vote for this

so October Halloween birth - I am up for that.

With most of the Duggar threads when I see that they're hot I wonder if there's been big news like another baby. With the Dillards thread I just assume Derick said something stupid again.

I have been sitting here for several minutes, trying, and failing, to think of a Mr Jill Duggar-esque response to this. It needs to be condescending and preferably not-quite-true, but cloaked in vague language.

It’s harder than it looks, you guys. Derick must be really smart to be able to do this so often.

How about:

“What kind of question is that? She’s a 27 year old woman!”

Or, if all else fails, go with a classic Dillard move - call your mommy and have her claim a lot of assumptions are being made here. :pb_lol:

Absolutely. I still remember a guy carrying his "end of the world is coming soon/stop abortions now" signs around our local weekly farmers' market when I was 12. He's still doing the same stuff, 28 years later, and the world is still turning, so...perhaps his calculations were off.  But I also think there is a certain, peculiar nuttiness associated with those who shout those warnings from the rooftops, and I think Ofjill is exhibiting those characteristics. JRod had a vaguely similar post about volcanoes erupting and more souls burning in hell, but against all odds, she seems more stable than Mr. Jill Duggar right now. He seems extraordinarily volatile, aggressive, and unstable lately.

When the Left Behind series came out, I did know some fundie-lites who whispered about how it seemed like maybe such a thing could possibly happen in this lifetime, but it probably wasn't especially likely.  There are certain aspects of Ofjill's rhetoric that make me think he not only believes this will happen soon, but that they need to prepare for that and not, say, the future here on earth. I'm sure he loves the press (any attention is better than being ignored, right?), but he does not seem to be in a good place whatsoever.

The more he rants, the more concerned I am for Jill and the kids.  Is there really no one in that vast family who can talk to him and suggest a social media time out?  Someone out there has to be aware that bad press, at a certain point, is actually just bad press.

Since we're recommending songs here's a couple of ditties for Izzy and Sam:

“I’m Bugged At My Old Man” by The Beach Boys

“My Dad Sucks” by The Descendents

He's definitely holding a grudge over something. Pathetic is exactly right. I have my pet theory that TLC didn't want to be associated with whatever happened during Sam's birth. This is 100% speculation but I think Jill was being reckless and almost lost Sam somehow. It would have to be so glaringly bad for TLC to decide it was unusable for the show. Then ofJill had the audacity to ask them for money to cover the NICU stay. That's when I think TLC said something along the lines of "no, that footage is useless so we're not paying for it, and we're sure as hell not covering a NICU stay that could have been avoided." So ofJill flounced and is now taking his petty wrath out on all of the ungodly heathens that TLC does pay. He believes he deserves that money and fame and was treated unfairly.

My much less dramatic theory is this: The birth was only mildly dramatic but they still said no to his demands for money. So he said something like, "If you won't pay our hospital bills then I do not consent to you using that footage." To which TLC probably said, "Fine, go fuck yourself," and scrapped the birth special to save money. Either way, he thinks he's the victim here, which is laughable.

No. We actually only have proof of one failed homebirth. We know nothing specific about Sam’s birth other than about how long she labored, that he was born via a repeat c-section, and that he had a two week NICU stay. Anything beyond that - including there being a second failed homebirth - is just speculation at this point.

You know what, I actually, genuinely hate him.  And I am more than a little bit disgusted with myself for mustering up enough emotion to reach that level.  He isn't worthy of my efforts.  But I do---I hate him---and not just because of his hateful views, but also for the way he communicates and intentionally obfuscates.

You know how everyone has their own "buttons" that other people push to piss them off?  That is my button.  I mean, and bear with me here, folks, I can ALMOST, sort of understand someone growing up with the hateful views--it may be difficult to break free from that.  But why be Such. An. Asshole????

I think Derick was actually very clear and concise in that answer, and he'd do a lot better if he adopted this strategy going forward. Either ignore the questions, or answer them calmly, rationally, and honestly like this. Treating every single question like it's a grave insult to your honour is going to do nothing but alienate people and make you look like a complete dick.

I agree...but also think that he is a complete dick and the more people he alienates from his "message" the better.  Ideally, he'd STFU but doesn't look like that's going to happen.

He is honestly the most irritating fundie around. There are others I can't stand for many reasons (Zsu and PP for their hatefulness, JRod for starving her children while she spends $ on her tacky appearance, Josh for we all know what) but none of them annoy the living daylights out of me like Derick.

I don’t know. Maybe the stuff the MTV producers do makes me lose faith in humanity, but I can see producers thinking, “Well nobody actually died, so the drama is ratings gold!!” MTV producers will literally cover up child abuse, ignore the pitiful heartbreaking wails of toddlers, and intentionally stir up drama and have to intervene when physical fights break out.

True, which is why my Less Dramatic Theory is the more likely one. But I can't help speculating wildly about behind the scenes drama!

@Hashtag Blessed actually I've always been under the impression that your first theory was right. Because if it was mild drama like Izzy's, TLC would have just used the footage anyway. But the fact that after Izzy got a birth special and a 4 page article in People, and we have absolutely no story from TLC, People or even the Duggars themselves about Sam's birth?  What I don't get is why would Derick expect TLC to pay the NICU bills unless Sam's birth started to be filmed but then Jill and Derick risked Sam's life and TLC backed out, not wanting any question of liability. If it was so simple, why no grainy phone photos of Jill in labor at the hospital? Or like Joy, showing a call to the family saying Jill was at the hospital and them praying? These are the Duggars, complete media whores. The silence surrounding Sam's birth is deafening.

All of which is pure speculation of course.

I do think at this point it's pretty safe to say that something went seriously wrong during Sam's birth. It was an emergency C-section, and possibly a crash C-section at that, and he was in the NICU for two weeks. Jill looking so incredibly weak and exhausted in those first pictures, and the Duggar family's extremely uncharacteristic reticence about the whole thing, taken alone wouldn't necessarily tell us anything, but taken together with the rest of it add to the impression that whatever happened was very serious. Or at the very least, it was seriously unexpected and they didn't know how to deal with it.

Beyond that, we can't really say anything. For example, I doubt that Jill had to have a hysterectomy. Jill and Sam both seem to have recovered really well and seem to be perfectly healthy, which is fantastic. I really hope that Jill and Derick value what they have, realize that God would prefer them to be both be there for their existing children for the long haul, and not take anymore unnecessary risks with their health.

Does anyone remember when Sam was due vs. when he was born?

They never announced a due date for Sam.

  • December- pregnancy announced
  • January- sex announced
  • early June- name announced
  • late June- there was a post "We are looking forward to the arrival of little Samuel Scott very soon"
  • he was born July 8

TLC most likely pays the Duggars via a family trust. JB is the one who doles out the cash.

Yes but ofJill himself claimed he asked TLC for money to cover the NICU bills. Maybe he was trying to go over JB’s head because JB was being tight-fisted, but it comes to the same thing. He asked for money and they said no.

I think something went wrong with the birth, but TLC probably would have used it unless it was really bad. Or somehow embarrassing or damaging to the brand. Now, of it wasn’t that bad but ofJill threatened to sue if they used the footage without paying the NICU bills, I could see TLC dropping it without a backward glance. Even if ofJill had no legal leg to stand on, why risk it? It would be cheaper and easier to just throw that footage in the trash and move on. The show can and has continued without Mr and Mrs Jill. It isn’t like they were the most popular couple.

Hmm the c section tweet is interesting.  I am wondering if Sams birth was a crash C.  I hope not but if Jill wanted no drugs it would be a possibilty.  Pssstt Mr Jill Duggar - Israel's was an emergency C as it was not scheduled. I hope he is telling the truth that they had planned a hospital birth, would make me feel a tiny bit better should Jill get pregnant again. Hopefully if she does they will do a planned section. This is why I really wanted to throw something at the TV when they went back to CA when Jill was pregnant and were an hour an a half from a hospital.

Side note, I saw this on twiiter and it made think of Jill and Dwrecks food postings. Okay they are not this bad or weird...though I feel like Jill might like the pickle in a hot dog bun one.   http://twentytwowords.com/the-hall-of-fame-of-bad-food-porn/
