@WhatWouldJohnCrichtonDo?Thanks for the chart.  I'm going to confess that I don't entirely understand it.  How can a person be agender and anything else; e.g., feminine or masculine?

Sorry it took me a couple of days to reply. First, I am 100% not any kind of an expert on gender. When my sibling came out to me, he explained that he doesn't identify as male or female. Later, when he was getting ready to start hormone treatments, he said that if there's more of a gender spectrum, instead of just male/female, he feels more masculine, but not really male. If gender is more of a spectrum, then instead of blue for boys and pink for girls, there are lots of different shades in between.

I'm still trying to figure stuff out. Things like gender-fluid and gender non-conforming. I think a lot of people are still figuring stuff out, so at least I'm not alone! As long as we try to be respectful as we learn, we're ahead of Mr. Jill.

To those who caught me up, may Rufus shower you in abundant blessings.

I feel like this topic always moves at breakneck speed because every day OfJill decides to provide us with new content.

Little Cesars is awful.

I dont know the specifics on percentages etc, but id hazard a guess that a good proportion of those who identify as transgender didnt “come out” until after puberty.

In the scheme of things I bet there are very few families similar to Jazz’s who have been in the process since she was a preschooler.

Actually, now that more people are aware of things, it seems like a lot of kids begin to identify with their gender around age 3. Whether or not their parents want to accept that is another thing, but signs seem to appear earlier than puberty: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-lgbt-parenting/u-s-parents-accept-childrens-transgender-identity-by-age-three-idUSKBN14B1C8

Again, 3 seems to be the common stage for parents who are listening to acknowledge their kid's gender: https://www.vox.com/2016/6/6/11853060/transgender-children-parents

Derick is clearly uncomfortable with the idea that his last name is meaningless in the public eye. He’s Mr. Jill Duggar and it chafes.
“My children will have plenty of opportunities.” He knows full well what that commenter means. His wife is undereducated and his children will be too if she’s their only teacher. Derick, you suck at social media. Go back to accounting.

But he’ll always be the “smartest” one. He wouldn’t like it if Izzy or Sam were smarter than him.

I only read this thread today but I saw an old discussion on gender. Here is a good (IMO) video by Kimberly Clark on gender. She is a pretty articulate drag queen and I found it useful. Maybe someone else might too:

Mr Jill clearly has a lot more in common with JB than I ever thought at the onset.

In the birthday dinner pics, it looks like he was cooking in a cast iron skillet and just pulled it out of the oven. Didn’t Jill mention a steak and baked potato dinner? If Derricks is cooking steak in cast iron under a broiler, it’s going to be very smoky. It’s also a good way to make delicious steak, and sadly the reason I don’t cook steak for myself (don’t want to set off the fire alarm for my entire building).

TBH I'm mildly impressed they're using real plates. I guess they only break those out for special occasions?

Jill posted on their website about her birthday. Highlights:

- Derick made a “romantic” dinner the night before complete with candles and sparkling cider.

So he's got something in common with Dim Bulb.

Damn, gotta give him reluctant props if that's correct.  I have a cast iron skillet whose only purpose is making steak when my son visits.

I’m very curious as to what made Ofjill turn away from his secular life and OSU. Not to be an armchair psychologist, but he seems to attack his persuits very instensely. Being pistol Pete is about as “all in” to university life as you can get.   Flying to Nepal to be a missionary is about as all in to missionary life as you can get. Choosing a “prayer partner” as a rouse for a semi-arranged marriage to a nearly guaranteed submissive woman willing to have as many babies as possible, quitting your job, etc etc etc

I don't think he was ever secular. Doesn't Cathy have bascially the same beliefs? A lot of religious people go to college. I do think he's become more bitter about it, though. He reminds me of the Dad in The Poisonwood Bible.

For some reason this is making me imagine him get into a brawl with some of the cast members of Teen Mom...(maybe because apparently Kail and Brianna got into a fight at the TM2 taping, complete with hair pulling).

Damn, now I want the TM 2 cast (well, Kail, Brianna and her family, and Jenelle and that ogre she calls a husband) and OfJill to meet.

Dwreck was getting ripped apart over at Pickles for being a horrible cook (and a horrible dad for setting off the smoke detectors and scaring those poor little boys) over all that smoke.  I had to explain that getting a good sear on steak requires high heat and usually is finished in the oven. My own hubby is a fine dining chef and fills a good part of the downstairs with smoke when he makes steak, even with the vent on high and the windows open. Just an example of people making a big stink out of nothing.

My dad makes sous vide steak that will make you believe that there are still things worth living for in this cruel, cold world, and I can confirm that it can get smoky as fuck when it's time to sear. All first floor windows open, vent as high as it will go, every fan in the house going, and he still sets off the smoke alarm sometimes.

I'm gonna BEC away and bet that Ofjill likes his steak so well done it's practically cremated, and slathered in sauce because he doesn't bother to season.

I got food poisoning from Little Caesar’s pizza when my daughter was about 8 months old. That was sheer hell. I haven’t eaten another bit of that shitpizza since.

I expect OfJill to go on a major Twitter rant soon enough since TLC will be airng Lost In Transition tonight. I'm sure he won't be pleased about that show.

Yeah, the Duggars' anti-education stance is fringe even in the context of conservative American evangelical Christianity.

The really religious Christians I knew growing up all went to college, even the girls. A fairly common path for a girl is to major in something like education and get married the summer after college graduation. They then teach for 2-3 years before having blessing #1 and becoming a STAHM who maybe does some tutoring or family photography on the side (or, more insidiously - peddles MLM crap on Facebook).

Being the 'smartest' one is sometimes very important to insecure people with a narcissistic bend. My father used to brag about his IQ score and take a great deal of joy in explaining to my mother and me how he was so much more intelligent than either of us. When I crushed him in an IQ test (and left the results where he could see them because I was so sick of hearing about his giant superior brain) he had the most ridiculous mantrum. When I was in uni he seemed to occilate between being proud of my accomplishments and wanting to tear them down.

A past BF was utterly convinced that he knew everything. Really - like everyone else - he was nowhere close. He knew a lot about what he specialised in, but could not handle that anyone may know about the things he didn't. He lost his mind when I showed him how to use a roller to paint a wall. How could I know that?? He didn't!!! Cue biggest eyeroll ever - he could not understand that I had a life before him and  that I learned things during that life... He got dumped that evening.

I suspect ofJill is going to be even more extreme than either of these in his utter belief in his own intellectual supremacy. I feel bad for Jill and their kids - hopefully ofJill takes himself off before he does too much damage.

My X was another one convinced of his intellectual superiority...one of the reasons our relationship was such a disaster and he wanted to tear me down...he couldn't handle that I was not an idiot.

Me? I know a lot in very narrow categories. Outside of those, I'm dumber than dirt. And, I'm okay with that.

this us such weird wording to me. Why is Derrick making the playlist for Jill’s labour? Is she really unable to do that herself? I know she didn’t really listen to music growing up but this seems like such an odd thing to farm out to your husband. If music is important enough for you to want during your labour, shouldn’t it be important enough for you to pick out? If not, why not just put a pandora station on? Am I the only one who thinks it’s weird?
