@Alysabeth’s screenshot is highly illuminating.

Derick is clearly uncomfortable with the idea that his last name is meaningless in the public eye. He’s Mr. Jill Duggar and it chafes.

“My children will have plenty of opportunities.” <—- I love this statement for two reasons. 1. It is so defensive. 2. It is so aggressive. He’s so bad at this. Instead of saying something like, “homeschooled people actually make up x% of college students, so we’re confident they’ll be fine” he gets all “How dare you! I’m not sure what you’re insinuating, here!”

He knows full well what that commenter means. His wife is undereducated and his children will be too if she’s their only teacher. Derick, you suck at social media. Go back to accounting.

Someone in the previous thread mentioned that they thought Jill might've had an emergency hysterectomy with Sam. We've speculated about this here before. I personally see no reason to believe that it happened, but I do want to point something out - if it did happen, then Derick was appallingly insensitive to her in the immediate aftermath. Because right after Sam was born, Derick was on Twitter 'liking' all kinds of comments about how great having a huge family is, how they shouldn't stop having children, and how 'two is for quitters'.

I like to believe that even Derick wouldn't be quite that awful to his wife, but every day he proves that he's somehow even worse than I would have expected, so who knows?

My personal sense is that no, Jill did not have a hysterectomy, and we'll see another special announcement from them within a year, possibly much sooner. But time will tell.

The fake denials on Derick's part are truly bizarre. Like when he claims on Twitter that he has a job and doesn't understand tweets that criticize him for soliciting donations rather than earning an income. I think he spends too much time watching Fox News and has decided to imitate Trump by denying or obfuscating or lying about everything. Derick really wants to live in a post-truth world.

It is kind of mind-boggling that out of 19 children in a well-to-do family none of them will end up with a college degree. The disinterest in learning seems to be the greatest failure of their homeschooling experience. I honestly would have expected at least one of the boys to take it upon himself to upgrade his high school knowledge by taking a year of community college and then applying to a Christian University and various scholarships so he could get a degree. I'm sure they could have won Jim Bob around to a practical degree that was paid for by part time work or scholarships at some Bible College.

Agree with most of this except the notion that the Duggars have received at minimum, a high school  education. Perhaps a couple of the adult kids have a high school level education, but not most of them. High school levels of science, math, foreign language, literature, government...no way-

I’m not denying Jessa is social media savvy but I don’t think the change from Ben is about being savvy. While I'm certain he has beliefs I find abhorrent I think he is too softhearted to purposefully go after people like Derrick does.  I think Derrick thrives on being a biblical bully. He essentially loves to piss people off and then acts like he is just a humble servant trying to save souls. Meanwhile there is Jeremy who has seen enough of the real world and has enough intelligence to not go on social media and spew the bullshit Derrick does. You are only going to get that aspect of him in his sermons and I predict even that will soften but not because of a change in beliefs but because he would dial it back it meant a higher level of success.

Using Jazz Jennings as an example:

If Ben met her he would be very kind and stick to the “God is love” route while privately thinking she is going to Hell if she doesnt change. He’d probably swiftly manage to never use any gendered pronouns to avoid being openly confrontational.

Derrick would screech and scream about how she is going to Hell and blah blah blah.

Jeremy would take a selfie with a totally neutral caption allowing those reading to come to their own conclusion. The religious folk would assume Jeremy was trying to save her soul meanwhile more liberal people would think Jeremy was being more inclusive than the traditional fundie.

Carrying over from last thread- Jeremy is a man, Ben is becoming a man, and Derick is in arrested development. I think the premature death of his father and near fatal illness of his mother has had a major effect on DD's processing and reasoning skills. He might have always been a fundamental blowhard, but he has turned full blown asshat. He needs help and until he gets it, Jill and the boys are hosed.

Agreed. IIRC the Bates test with a local high school to receive an actual high school diploma upon graduating from their homeschool programs while the Duggars get GEDs. I know people who have studied hard to receive their GEDs, but I think the style of teaching the Duggars have is bare minimum rather than actual retained knowledge and ability to succeed in a variety of subjects. I’m not going to pretend it’s impossible for those kids to get other kinds of jobs in the future should they need to, but SOTDRT has done them no favors. For Derick to feign confusion makes me wonder what his end game for his kids really is. Is it OSU and the Pistol Pete tradition? Another generation of construction workers/electricians/plumbers/etc.? Rabid missionaries or preachers with endless e-fundraisers?

I'm not sure that most are even qualified to be electricians, plumbers or construction workers beyond working for JB. You have to know some math and science to be gainfully employed in those trades. In addition, you have to show up on time, every day, in order to retain employment.

Most workplaces do not exist on Duggar Time.

I wonder if JB ever feels the pressure of setting his kids up for failure? He sacrificed everything for pure genitals on the wedding days. What an idiot!

I would be shocked if Jill had a hysterectomy. Derrick's comments about children afterwards would be beyond cruel, and despite how shitty he is sometimes, I don't think he would be that blatantly horrible to Jill.

I don't think we'll get an announcement from them until later 2019, but I do think they will have more children. I could see them with around 5.

My youngest is currently getting ready to take his journeyman electrician's test. He's taking classes right now, math, physics, English, electrical theory and then there's the practical side. It ain't easy. I don't think any of the Duggar spawn would have enough educational background to pass those classes.

What baffles me is that Derick clearly enjoyed his years at school. He always speaks fondly and goes back to his alma maters every chance he can get. Yet he is denying his kids the same.

Someone on Tumblr claims that Jill originally posted the wall picture and then deleted it. Can anyone find evidence of this?

I'd agree with you on all but JD - I'm thinking if he can successfully get his pilot's license, he might be able to handle something like that as well. There's a lot of math in flying, I understand, and some bookwork as well as the actual flying. I wonder sometimes if he's not living an actual life quietly while the rest of the Duggars flail about trying to hold the spotlight.

Are Jana and JD actually Duggars? It's like those two got most of the competence and much less of the attention whoring.

I think they may have gotten the better end of the homeschooling before they turned into a zoo. I think J'turd, Jana, JD and maybe Jill got a better education than the rest. From the Howlers on down, I think they're all probably barely literate.

Yes, though Joe did attend Crown, for whatever it's worth.

What will Derick's children have plenty of opportunities to do - fail?

Every time that Derick tries to gaslight, I always think of Joan Calamezzo from Parks and Rec when she slaps Leslie with the "GOTCHA!" sticker.  He thinks he's SO CLEVER, but everyone else is perfectly aware that he's just being petty and pedantic in an attempt to deflect.

It should also be noted that Joan was meant to be an exaggerated portrayal for comedic effect.  The fact that Derick Duggar (Dillard) is measuring up while being serious shows a lack of self-awareness so remarkable that it should probably be studied.

This actually made me wonder whether or not Derick could ever handle his sons ever being better then him at anything. JB made sure his sons could never be better then him in anyone. Not smarter, more successful, or really anything. He took insane joy out of beating his sons in stupid competitions on the show. Is Derick any different? I don't really think Derick could handle Israel or Samuel being smarter then him or doing better then him at anything.  If either boy somehow got into OSU and became more famous then him as Pistol Pete, would be be happy or jealous?

Dericks inferiority complex is screaming for attention in that comment. If your healthy and balanced you’d probably just ignore that part. As for the schooling it didn’t really answer the question...

I’d feel bad for him if he wasn’t such an asshole, but he is, so here we are.

I don't know if Jill did or didn't have a hysterectomy, but I will say I doubt it.  With all the people involved like family, the film crew, the hospital and so on I figure somebody would have leaked the information.  Either intentional or unintentional, somebody would let it slip.

Just my own view. Your mileage my vary

Because he doesn't have an answer.  He's realizing that a poorly homeschooled teacher won't produce any future OSU grads.  To change that, he's going to have to do one of three things: 1) take a much more hands-on approach to his sons' education rather than let Jill 'handle it', 2) find an appropriately conservative private school, or 3) send them to ebil public school.  However, I don't think he would like or be able to afford any of those options, so...

...but I suppose he could run to his mommy and let her figure it out for him!

I love baseball but I'm dreading the new season because the White Sox ownership is THE FUCKING WORST. I watched Dominican League Baseball (Lidom!) over the winter and fell in love with their joy, spirit, and exuberance. The broadcasts were in Spanish and my Spanish is pretty weak but I loved catching phrases and repeating them. Bombe! I'm sad about MLB and Commissioner Idiota's busywork rules. But I love baseball, always and forever.
I guess I don't have a point. Just bitching. Te amo mucho, Lidom!

      Happy International Women's Day!

Humanity may have some work to do, to improve gender equality, but I was glad to hear that France has taken an important step to protect healthcare for women (and people of other genders who can get pregnant).

Feeling ragey this morning. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon in the hope of getting help for an ongoing injury. I went to a (different!!) doctor late last year who completely blew me off. He wouldn't do diagnostic testin, he refused to send me to a specialist, and he just told me to "take it easy" and "take ibuprofen." I'm hopeful for today's appointment but I'm also feeling a SEVERE amount of rage at that doctor from last year!

Well, the rash is back with a vengeance. It never completely cleared up. I saw the derm yesterday and they did another swab and yup, raging infection again, still? It is definitely strep skin infection. I am getting so damn tired and run down from this. Who the f would immagine being hospitalized freaking TWICE for a rash?

My niece is going to be a seat filler at this year's Academy Awards.  Seat fillers are asked to wear tuxedos regardless of sex/gender.  If you see a pretty young woman with very curly hair, it could be my niece.
