The place he ran away to in Illinois requires that the men shave everyday and keep their hair trimmed short.  (I think Derick should be sent there.)  Here is a before-and-after picture of a man sent there.

Wow, he must be "cured"! He has a tie and everything!

Short hair, tie, jacket, obviously reformed. Oh wait, that's how Josh looked before the scandals. Maybe how you look has nothing to do with the kind of person you are. Naah.

What is interesting to me is that if you run a plumb line down the center of this man's graduation photo you get what appears to be two different looks.  On the right side he looks...anxious, nervous, unsure, perhaps at odds with himself.  On the left he looks like he thinks a happy RU graduate should look.  I hope he's OK...I'm not sure.

ETA...I figured out what I am trying to say.  This is not an unusual photo for someone leaving long term treatment.  Seeing some anxiety leads me to believe they're being realistic.  That said, I would like to see a face that is a bit more integrated than his appears.

Or maybe, in Josh's case, the sign of redemption will be that he looks like a total slob...

;)

It's kinda like a five year old blaming their imaginary friend for eating the last of the sweets.

My 3 year old used this excuse when she spilt milk all over the table and floor: "But it wasn't me, it was just my body parts." (I told "her body parts" to me more obedient to her and told her to go and change her wet clothes.

I wonder if she's ever actually properly lost her shit at Josh or whether she keeps sweet in private too. If nothing else she must be a really good actor, all those adoring looks when we all know he's a douche.

I'd love to think that just once, when it started to come out she turned to him and just yelled "Are you F**KING kidding me!"

The Anne Bronte book The Tenant of Wildfell Hall was controversial partly because the female character looses her shit at her abusive husband and slams the door in his face and tell not to touch her again, ever since I heard about this scandal this is how I imagine Anna doing something like that and the Duggars being equally horrified for her lack of submission as people were back in the day. I also hope she gave him a good hard kick to a certain area but that is probably asking too much.

I would pay damn good money to witness any of the above scenarios involving Anna losing her shit on Josh and/or giving him a swift kick to the crotch. Or a few in quick succession.

Now that is a show that I would watch

Since Josh admitted to a porn addiction, I wonder what porn Jim Bob found on Josh's computer when the Ashley Madison scandal hit the press.  We know that child molestation is a felony and that those convicted are on the sexual offenders list for life; the same thing is true of possessing porn.  (Josh would have been arrested for molestation if the three-year statute of limitations hadn't expired in Arkansas.) Child molestation and porn seem to go together, as in this case no ongoing in the UK:

You know Anna could conveniently have a "nighmare" and roll over fist clenched deliver an "accidental" testicular punch. Yes I have a bit of a twisted violent streak [emoji23].

Good question, though I'm not sure I want to know the answer.  And there was also Josh's office at FRC...

I presume you mean those possessing child porn.  Possessing adult porn does not put one on a sex offenders list.  We don't know what kind of porn Joshley was presumably addicted to.  If his AM profile is any indication, it is likely vanilla porn.

As much as I'd like to see Joshley be legally held accountable, I really hope he wasn't looking at child porn.

Seriously guys, what he's actually done is creepy enough. Let's not speculate on what sort of porn he was addicted to, k?

In my younger days, I had a boyfriend who looked a bit like pre-RU Jesse.  I would have ended it sooner if he had had a Victory Story Makeover like Jesse's though. :pb_lol:

That Jesse looks suspiciously like my kids' 7th grade teacher....

Here's an interesting article about facial symmetry

In terms of Smuggar's appearance, what seems striking to me is how unhealthy he has looked for the past few years. None of the Duggar males ever look all that good, in my opinion, but Josh was looking as if he was too busy juggling his double life to bother to eat well, exercise, or take care of himself.

It makes me wonder whether, along the way, he was haunted by fears of getting caught. After all, he must have known the risks. He had a (presumably well-paying) job that was probably prestigious from his point of view. He engaged in behavior that he must have known could end his job if he was found out. Did it bother him at all? Or was he just indifferent to the consequences? I'd guess he might have been bothered--not by his conscience, necessarily, but by the potential danger his own choices were creating for his future.

IMO there was a small part of Josh that wanted to get caught, likely knowing that it would be the only way he would stop(however temporarily).  I don't mean he set out to get caught but I think he became more careless as time went on and his carelessness probably bothered him less over time.  I suspect he's been quite depressed for several years and the internal battle he was fighting wore him out.

I'm hoping that his time in Jesus Rehab was helpful to him.  That said, I wonder if it wasn't more of a rest from his bad behavior and, like a lot of people who go through treatment he's thinking he's been "clean" for awhile and is already looking for ways to relapse.  I truly hope I am wrong.

Even by Duggar male standards, Josh has aged rapidly and badly, perhaps due to the stresses of having more kids than he'd like coupled with compartmentalizing his various personas. Since it's doubtful Jesus Rehab actually addressed the source of his problems, I'm not confident that he will emerge new or improved.

I think you are, likely, right.  I don't believe Josh is given to introspection and I doubt he had anyone in Jesus Jail asking him to talk about his past.  IMO he needs years of therapy with a qualified therapist who would allow him to talk about and explore how he feels, something I doubt he has ever done without a lot of guilt.  I also think that he will never be happily married to Anna, that his marriage was one of convenience and any passion, stirrings, lust is long gone.  It's possible he will remain the dutiful husband but I doubt he will ever quit looking around for something better, short-term or not.

Four kids is a lot to take care of. I don't see Josh really enjoying the responsibility. As Jessa says.....24 hour care.....but of course Anna does it but it is still a responsibility he has to deal with.

I wonder too.  It's one thing to get a burst of religiosity, but another to become a disciple of Jim Bob.  And if Derick needed funding for his trip to Nepal then why didn't he just work for awhile?  He had a degree.

All right ... confession time. At least it's confession to fellow FJs ... :my_confused:

So, after I left, I started seeing the Duggars on TV. I was so jealous. (That tells you something about my "childhood" right there). The mom talked quietly, the dad seemed loving, the family took trips, everyone was kind ... I found it super calming to hear them talk and to dream about having a kind family. The Duggars created that fantasy for me because I didn't have the perspective of a healthy, happy family. At some point, I felt so lonely and so detached from this "new" world (aka the world) I didn't understand, that I wrote to Boob & Meechele. ... They wrote back, and honestly, they were lovely. (Now, I know they are creepy, but in a personalized email when I didn't know better, they sounded like the dream family I watched on TV). I had only been out for just a year, but I missed my buddies so much, and they were comforting, reassuring, had advice, and offered me some "options" free of charge. When I got that email, I felt so worthy and so loved. I kinda picture Derick being in a similar position. His dad died suddenly, but he carried on the Pistol Pete thing. Then, college was over and Pistol Pete was gone, which prolly felt like losing his dad again. I don't know when Cathy got remarried, but if it coincided with Derick graduating .. maybe he wasn't ready to live with his stepdad ... maybe he doesn't like his stepdad. So, he saw a "loving, Christian family" on TV and wrote to them ... they wrote back, and being in the area, Derick finally had a family again. Between the death of his dad and "losing" Pistol Pete, it doesn't surprise me that Derick would cling to his religion, and to try to find a male role model for his life.

I don't know about a foot to the nuts, but "oops sorry honey didn't see you there, didn't mean to slam your fingers in the door"! Or "ya know, I've had a bed to myself for the last 6 months so I kinda sprawl out now.  I certainly didn't mean to elbow you in the stomach/head"   Sadly as much as I think we all wish she would..I don't see Anna being passive aggressive like that. But I think when pushed to the absolute breaking point, she had that moment where she turned the sweet off and bitched him out. The problem I see now is trust. All the lies, for goodness knows how long.  How do you live with someone you know without a doubt you can't trust? And if its open access to his phone, email, computer etc, how long before Josh is 'over' being monitored all the time and puts his foot down?
