Paroled from Jesus jail: Josh comes home - part 14

I think they finally have that public relations advisor they...well...should have had from the beginning. Plus, duggers never do anything without ulterior motive.

As far as Anna goes, I think this all has just highlighted how deep the Kool-aid goes.

The Duggars still think cheating is what's wrong and not sexual abuse??? Many people cheat. Cheating is wrong. But cheating involves two consenting adults. The public forgives cheating most of the time. Sexual abuse is be never forgiven. Once you molest a child, your done. You don't pass go you don't collect $200. Everyone hates you. Duggars really need to realize this.

But really, this is how most of these super fundie groups think. FLDS, etc. Its not just the Duggars, in fact they weren't the first, they may have grown to accept the abuse as normal once they joined gothard.  Thst is very disturbing to think that.

The Duggars most recently recommended the book, His Needs, Her Needs on their Facebook page, which says women must be hot and available to prevent an affair... I think we know they have been blaming Anna. Look at the transformation in appearance. Anna is a much thinner, tanned, curly haired, smokey eyed version of herself. It's sad but I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Bob & Michelle forced Anna to watch Josh's favorite porn to learn how to "please" him...

This article talks about some quotes from the book they recommended in a post on FB. It's disgusting... http://www.inquisitr.com/2948906/inside-the-book-jim-bob-and-michelle-duggar-says-held-their-marriage-together/

I didn't read the quotes.

This is a gross concept. I wonder how old the females are in this family when they let them know this is their fate. So, maybe they will stay single. Seeing what Anna is going through and perhaps, well, certainly, seeing all of this crap would be upsetting and confusing at best. I mean, what the hell......so perhaps Jana hasn't courted for a reason. Poor Anna. What the hell......

But when the molestations started, the Duggars were basically housebound, except for the odd trip to Aldis and Big Sandy. I would be surprised if they even had a computer back then. Unless JB was sneaking porn magazines into the house, Josh wouldn't have had access to porn at this point in time. But I'm sure the Duggars would claim that porn was still responsible because it was/is still an existential threat, much like gay marriage. The alternative would involve realizing that all the "purity" rhetoric, burka frumpers, and ATI "character" brainwashing didn't protect the J'girls and maybe even contributed to it, and we can't have that.

Actually, in the very first special, they had a bank of computers that they used for home-schooling.  It wasn't emphasized in the small house--the SOTDRT was emphasized, but it's clearly visible.  JB and DQ are smug and stupid enough to believe that they controlled the internet, but Smugs was likely wiley enough as many kids are to get past those parental controls.  Hell, their password was probably something like "tatertot" or "quiverfull" or "Iamgod" (this might be a fun thread!)

I just watched the original 14K&PA special on YouTube the other day, and although you see the computers, the narrator explicitly says "no Internet."  He could very well have been mistaken or lying, of course.

Doubtful on the porn (also, ew!). That would be causing Anna to sin too. Most likely she took a look at trends and tried to mold herself into that after reading Gothard materials.

I assumed that the Duggars didn't have internet then because there wouldn't have been a need. It's not like the Duggars would look at the news or just query something out of curiosity, and even then they would have been obsessed with the specter of Internet porn. Even today they only let the J'kids, including the kidults, go on fifty pre-approved websites so I don't even see what the point of having internet access is if you're going to be a web agorophobe.

I am just watching 14 kids for the first time, after someone posted a link here.  I have seen bits of programmes from time to time, but seeing it from the beginning is fascinating.

Do we know how "sheltered" the Duggar kids were at the beginning?   Would they have watched themselves on tv, or was it just a "ministry"? (eg, like the Maxwells who write books, but rarely read them).

Would the Duggars have written their own blog, and controlled their own email back then, or was it all managed for them from the start of the tv specials?

I'm sorry, I missed this before I posted and cannot edit my post above, so am hoping this will merge.

Do you have a link or reference to how we know about their restricted internet use, please?

Sorry for joining in the Duggar party so late in the day... I have asked the search function, but it is hard to find specific answers because there is so much stuff about them.  :my_biggrin:

In a later episode (not the early specials), I remember Michelle talking about how they used the computers for schooling and how they restricted Internet access, including how Jana and possibly herself were the only family members with the password and how the computers could only access certain websites. I'm doing this off of memory, so maybe someone who's seen these episodes more recently can fill in the details.

This looks to me, without any doubt, like blaming Anna. And while I have always thought that they were putting blame on her behind closed doors, big time, in fact, I did not expect them to do it so blatantly and publicly, and also, at the very time when Josh is just back from rehab. I would have thought that they would, at least at this moment in time, give "advice" that would address Josh´s behaviour. But they do not, rather to the contrary, as they seem to even commend him instead  - according to that fucking book, only the spouse who is cheated on bears blame. That would mean that Joshy dearest did everything right - ´cause, after all, Anna did not cheat on him, did she?

I am so used to them behaving like ignorant assholes that I would not have expected them to still be able to come up with something that would make me want to spit fire and beat the crap out of them. But life is full of surprises - I was so totally wrong...  :angry-fire: :violence-axechase:

(Incidentally, just for the record, according to their very own logic as explained in that book, if that "urge" were so irresistible, it would also be totally unreasonable and "unfair" to ever expect unmarried males to do without sex. So, if Anna were to blame for Josh cheating, even more so would his parents bear responsibility for teenager Josh´s criminal behaviour. But who am I kidding - of course, they do not care one bit about logic if it would oblige them to question their own rules...)

I hope Anna is able to retain her sanity. That book is so gross. I do feel sad for her, very sad. And this is more public shame for her by putting this on facebook. She was given a very bad bill of goods with Joshley. Shame on Godbobbers and J'Chelle.

As it would seem that the Duggars are less than truthful about their lives and very much want to portray themselves as living in a bubble that is all about Jesus JimBob, what was presented on the show isn't necessarily reality.  Speaking only for myself, I simply don't believe that they didn't have internet access back in the little house.  JB would have likely had to have internet to run his real estate business and Smugs being the golden child probably had access.

Did the kids get to do searches on the internet for school work?  Probably not, especially if Jill was around to tattle.

Given what passes as "school" at the TTH, I'm extremely doubtful that any of the kids ever have the kinds of assignments that would require independent research. To be honest, I would be surprised if the SOTDRT even requires essay writing of any sort. Gothardism is not a belief system that encourages higher order thinking or even the ability to express one's self in a semi-coherent fashion. I'm just thinking of the atrocious writing skills on display on ATI/IBLP websites and blogs, as well as the Duggars' own mush-mouthed THs.

Thats why i still like the show ☺ To see what other wacky thing they can possibly come up with to outdo themselves.

I did always wonder the same thing. For such a patriarchy, they sure are harsh on the teen boys. Didn't they punish josh for touching himself by tying his hands together. But then again they barely punished him for touching his sisters, so go figure.

I thought it had been disclosed that Josh got on the internet while helping on their friend's political campaign?

That's what I thought too. I think he was 14 at the time.

Right. I should have clarified that.

The Duggar Family Blog lists homeschool resources they use. These include online work. There is also at least one video on TLC's Youtube that shows the boys working at the computers and mentions the course/program by name.

Nothing to clearly indicate when exactly they got internet, though.

14K&PA came out in 2004.  Twelve years ago there still were a number of people that had computers but no internet.  If the computers were a couple of years old they may not have had modems or the modems may have not been fast enough for text.  So maybe the "no internet."

I keep coming back here hoping for a pic. But I'm half starting to believe my consoiracy theory now. Josh flew the coop awhile ago, and the duggars are releasing the fake citing a themselves to throw people off.

I don't know if Josh has left (extremely unlike, in my opinion), but the poster on Previously TV who claimed to have seen him sounds sketchy. He and Anna being spotted buying cream of mushroom soup and tater tots by the gross (and nothing else) at Aldi's sounds like a joke someone would think up of on FJ or some other board.
