John and Alyssa both posted today and it's the basically the same photo of Allie Jane. Allie has a different look on her face, but it is taken from the same angle.

The approximate retail value (“ARV”) of the Grand Prize is Two Thousand Seven Hundred Fifty Dollars ($2,750.00).

That girl will be receiving a 1099-MISC for that amount and will have to pay taxes on it. I hope it was worth it for Emily Bauman. It wouldn't be for me.

I noticed in the video where the meet Emily Zach had some major side eye going on.  I can't say that I blame him, I would be worried about safety too.

So they criticize the use of birth control, but are shocked when their healthy 19 yo sister gets pregnant very soon after marriage? I do not understand these people.

It makes no sense to me either. I have the episode on my DVR. Their exact comments were: "I can't believe the lady is only 19, she's only 13 months older than me." Tori.

"You're only 19 and you're pregnant?!"-carlin.

"I'm 22 and I don't even have a girlfriend."-Lawson.

"she's young, but she's mature, wise beyond her years." Gil.

Alyssa defended herself by saying she ll be 20 in a couple of weeks.

Again, I agree. what did they expect? Maybe because she has expressed that she doesn't want 20 kids, maybe 10 the most. To have only 10, is impossible without contraceptives. Maybe she expressed interest in waiting to have kids. I also think they tried hard to stall the relationship the best they can by waiting until she turned 19 to officially court.

Holy shit, you guys are taking their comments literally. I actually saw that episode. They were clearly teasing her, not expressing genuine shock and bewilderment. If you think that any fundamentalist is going to be shocked when a young newly married woman turns up pregnant, you're out of your mind. Alyssa would not be the first married and pregnant 19-year-old in their general acquaintance, trust me.

Check out the 7th and 13th pics from Kelly's sister's wedding. Carlin is showing a lot of shoulder :pb_surprised:

She is! She is completely sleeveless and showing a lot of under arm skin. Alyssa is sleeveless too, and their parents are present. I'm glad to see some of Alyssa's "immodesty" rubbing off on her sister. Maybe more will follow.

Kelly's sister looks GORGEOUS! I want her dress!

Also, Carlin, I'm glad you're taking up the defrauding ways of your older sister, you're growing into a very beautiful young lady, but if you're going to do that wide open-mouthed LOOK HOW WACKILY HAPPY I AM YOU GUYS facial expression in your photos, take your nasty-ass chewed up gum out of your mouth.

Well I may take one for the team. But honestly, to win these kind of contests I think you generally need to display stalker level crazy. If I were a celeb I would be very adverse to agreeing to these types of contests.

I agree, not worth it to me. Now if they gave me $2750 in cash and then I had to pay taxes on it, no problem but for a trip to TN of almost $3000; nope not worth it.

The amount made me think, I wonder if the contest came up with that amount based on how much each cast member gets paid per episode. If each member that is on TV gets $2750/day of filming, not bad for basically doing nothing.

I would be really tempted to do it if I wasn't on a different continent and paranoid about how appearing on a reality show would look on my resume. I'd be kinda down because I'm a big ol' heathen (Jewish, feminist, socialist, bisexual, have had loads of premarital sex, wear miniskirts like they're going out of style, recipient of a very worldly education), and I'd love to see how the Bateses and I would interact. Though I am a stealth-heathen, because none of the things that make me a heathen are immediately obvious if I'm in a long skirt and not making out with a girl.

I'm thinking of getting rid of cable, which would mean no more UP tv.  For those without it, where can you watch it and how long after it premieres?

I get more enjoyment than I should out of their promotional family photos. A wedding cake made of hay complete with Bride and Groom topper! Bah! Next time I propose they do the laying on top of each other dressed as colors of the rainbow awkward family photo thing.

I might throw in one entry and then be really irritated if out of everything I've ever tried to win; the lottery, shopping sprees, concert tickets, the thing I finally won was to hang out with the Bates family.

That Emily girl is crazy obsessed. 3,000 entries! You have to wonder how many people actually submitted for this thing. 90% of the entries might have been all hers.

Think of how many hours Emily "20th Bates" could have put in working at a soup kitchen or animal shelter instead of applying to the "Be a Bates" contest 3,000 times.

Amazon only has the 17 episode of season 1 of Bringing Up Bates for sale.

UP TV has created a way for fans to watch previously aired episodes of Bringing Up Bates online. gMovies.com, a family-centered and faith-friendly alternative to Netflix, features more than 300 uplifting films, television series, and documentaries, including the entire first season of Bringing Up Bates.

This service costs $4.99 per month--the price of renting one or two movies on other websites--and allows subscribers to stream videos on their computer or mobile device. gMovies is also available to DISH customers. (Call DISH at 800-333-3474 for more information.)

I went onto the website gMovies.com and discovered that it is operated by Up. I was able to search and they have season 2 episodes available to watch. I don't know when they will have season 3.

I don't know if I am allowed to share on here but I have found some less than legal streaming sources that typically get the episode by the weekend after it airs.

Actually her sisters all made comments on the show that she was too young. Carlin and Tori both said "she's only 19, years old". So I do believe this to be true that her family did feel some type of shock.

The cynical side of me thinks that might just be a PR move. If they openly acknowledge on the show that she's young, make a fuss and move on, then they've just addressed it and controlled the conversation. It always looks worse when you try to hide or downplay something instead of just being open and moving on.

Here we go again. One squinty-eyed photo (which I don't even see) does not a medical condition make.

You're telling me it's not our responsibility to diagnose other people's kids with vision problems, hearing problems, autism, down syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, developmental delays, marfan syndrome, and/or ebola??? But what if we're concerned?
