he looks like a slightly heavier, but definitely goofier Pecan Thief. What a gene pool this family is creating!

This guy has a PhD from the University of Notre Dame in Computer Science and Engineering. He’ll  at least add some IQ points to the gene pool.

I personally would much rather be in Sarah’s position than many other fundies. She won’t have a million kids since she married in her 30s. Plus a husband who can likely afford a family.

At least Rachelle Waller didn’t marry a man who looked like her brother. I guess she’s the odd one out.

Her husband reminds me of her brother Adam if I remember all the faces correctly… 😂

My husband’s parents look so much alike they were regularly mistaken for siblings. The funny thing is, neither of them resemble their own siblings.

Oh I don’t think Joseph Afarian looks like a Waller. Before he grayed, he had dark hair. That automatically makes me think he doesn’t look like a waller. But it’s also his face shape and nose.

She looks like a nice-person version of JillRod.

It feels like red flag city to me when people with real educations are fundamentalists. How much more evil can they do in the name of religion than undereducated folks?

He has an interesting life story. I don’t know enough about him to comment on his level of fundiness.

Reminds me a bit of the highly educated guy who sought a very fundy wife.  He went to elite law school and I think had a Fulbright.  Then clerked for a judge, I think in DC.  Anyone remember them?

That was Stephen Hammer. He sought her out online and messaged her dad about her. Which was creepy. We don’t know how these two met. They could have met at a social event or something. Plus they are in their 30s. So they aren’t super young. I will also say one good thing about the Waller parents. They actually let their adult daughters hold jobs. I don’t know what Sarah did. But I bet she at least worked a job in adulthood before getting married.

Nursing, I think

She has used the letters RN after her name. I think she went into nursing around the time that her sister Rebecca died. She too was studying to be a nurse.

I don’t think Priscilla has a cognitive disability ; I think she is highly anxious, has the lowest self esteem possible and possibly some learning disabilities. Add this to poorly educated and highly sheltered and we have Priscilla. I do  think that conversation between this guy and Pa Keller should be interesting.

  • 1 month later...

Priscilla and David have a new baby girl, Desiree Hope.

Not what I guessed, but a good name with a good explanation. Better than the reasons they chose Destiny.

I find it strange having a name theme. I'm used to John and Jane happen to start with the same letter and since they stopped at two they technically had a "theme" but only because those were the names they liked. It wasn't some "we have to come up with a name we like that fits the theme." Maybe it's just me but I find it weird that so many second gen Kellers have an intentional theme. (Outside of bible names or something. Eta so I guess I'm used to "bible names" being a theme.  But starting with the same letter is weird to me)

We have such an obscure naming theme that I’m not sure if my partner even noticed I did it! The obvious one is that all of us have names that are technically biblical, but so common that people don’t automatically associate it. The other 2 things with my kids nobody has ever picked up on.

I think the whole idea of a “name theme” is kind of foreign to me. The biggest family I know personally have 3 kids. More than 3 is really uncommon here. Parents will usually gravitate towards somewhat similar types of names (in terms of social background connotations, modern vs. traditional, similar “vibe”), but I’ve never heard of anyone with a naming theme outside of FJ.

Naming their daughter Desiree because she was wanted is a nice thought, and I figure Pris and David have never heard a Stephen Sondheim song in their lives.

But all I can think of is the character in A Little Night Music, especially her mother's line about why she gave her the name.

In the song Liaisons, Desiree's mother complains that being the mistress of a wealthy man is not what it used to be in her youth, when the men who kept her were royalty and gave her jewels, fine art and houses. She's disappointed that her daughter earns her own living as an actress, and has relationships with men because she's interested in them, rather than using them to get the goods.

Quote

Liaisons!
What’s happened to them?
Liaisons today.
Untidy!
Take my daughter, I
Taught her, I
Tried my best to point the way.
I even named her
Desiree.

I guessed Daniela Grace. I thought it would be nice for Davia to have a partner in the feminine version of a male bible name.

It just doesn't fit for me to go from Deborah to Desiree, but neither are terrible. If I were bound to their naming construct and order, I'd have done the following:

  • Peter
  • Delia
  • Phillip
  • Danielle
  • Patrick
  • Darcy
  • Daphne

I love the name Delia. The rest are just an attempt to somewhat flow together.

Me neither, but he is attending a Catholic university, so must be comfortable with other Christian viewpoints.  "Today, RichardWebster is a computer scientist in a Ph.D. program at the University of Notre Dame, where he received a prestigious National Science Foundation grant to fund his research on artificial intelligence."

Having funding for graduate studies is a huge deal -- it means graduating without a mountain of debt.

Most science programs get PhD students on grants so they get paid a stipend rather than having to borrow.  It's the rest of the programs that have large debt.

Yup, I worked helping grad students at a Big State University in three different departments, none well funded.  There were doctoral students graduating with $100,000 in debt.  A typical stint for the Ph.D. AFTER a Masters was about 7 years, if the student wanted to pursue an academic track.

This guy, RichardWebster (what's up with that name?) is going to be insanely employable -- the right degree at the right time for anything AI related.
