Millie Radford gave birth to her son on February 20th. His name is Chester Bleu.

I guess she wanted to wait until she had his newborn photos back to announce.

I'm curious about the Bleu - they are not French (but I suppose the father could be).

The name just reminds me of Cordon Bleu - it's a nice enough dish I suppose.

Isaiah and Brianna Jeub are expecting their second child in September. It's a rainbow baby. I scrolled through Brianna's insta and didn't see any mention of that pregnancy. Must have been first trimester.

Hope so too, I miss the Frazer blog and the ones from James, Jonathan and Kendalyn/Robert are far and few between.

James is so damn fixed on his landscape and bird photography, he rarely post from family get togethers.

According to Tabitha's instagram, it's Patriot SM Gimenez. No word yet on what SM means. Name falls right in line with Liberty Anne, Freedom Joy, and Victory Belle.

Soul Mate?

Skim Milk?

Sergeant Major?

Strategic Missile?

His sisters all sound like WWII fighter planes.

Sado-Masochism

I unironically like Patriot's sisters' names. Especially Victory Belle. That one in particular sounds like the heroine of a series of 1940s "girl detective" novels.

That said, they are running out of conventional patriotic lady themes. If more sisters follow, the pool is getting shallow. Glory, I guess? Or Independence? The boy names are easier. Just copy and paste any of the Thomas manlet names.

I’m trying to think of someone on the far left naming their kids political names. I haven’t come across any Ruth Bader Smiths. I guess it’s just the super far right conservatives that do that to their children. Maybe you all know more super far left folks and know some names like that.

I know a few people who have named their kids after various left-wing historical figures (this is what you get when you know a bunch of union organizers) but as far their teachers and classmates need to know, they're simply Karl or Eugene. Just examples; the folks I can think of actually chose even more obscure namesakes. Not quite the same as having to introduce yourself as Patriot or Heritage.

Diversity Solar Power Jones.

Of course, Tupac  Amaru Shakur is a "left wing" name. And I certainly know some Thurgoods. And I know several kids named Atticus, after To Kill A Mockingbird.

I've always loved the name Rosa (Luxemburg) and I've known a family with three kids that were named Rosa (Luxemburg), Clara (Zetkin) and Karl (Liebknecht - or Marx!). All communist/socialist figures of early 20th german history.

Jasmine Holmes named her youngest after Malcolm X! I love the way she chooses her boys’ names with such intention.

Oh I’m sure it did!!! I’m fascinated by their dynamic, as it’s obvious that she is still quite close to her family of origin. Do they just have an agreement to not discuss certain topics?

They must. Otherwise it would have to be a big argument every time they get together. We have to have that agreement with my parents. Otherwise arguments would happen way too much.

Her article “regrets of staying home” paints a really interesting picture of their dynamic, it sounds like he’s not the typical controlling fundie dad and he loves and respects her as her own person with her own views. I don’t think they do shy away from the debate, but they are very intentional about being respectful of one another and finding common ground too. I don’t really agree with either one of them (Jasmine still believes homosexuality is a sin, for example) but I think there is something very admirable in their approach to love in the midst of disagreement.

I could be wrong, but when I see Fundies becoming more progressive and changing their minds, it seems like the LGBTQ acceptance is near the end of their changes. I still have hope she could eventually change her mind on that. It’s weird that they will change their minds on things like family planning, public school, racism, and patriarchy, but then they are still against the LGBTQ+ community. Probably because it often doesn’t affect them. It’s easy to be against something that doesn’t affect you. But then someone they love could come out and that’s when they change their stance the most in my observation.

Most of the really left/progressive folks I know opted not to have kids in the first place.

And those who did often used envrironmental names rather than political:  I know kids named after rivers, trees, flowers, etc.

True. Jasmine seems to view Jackie Hill Perry as a paramount authority on all things LGBTQ+. Not the best source, IMO.

Re: her father. She regularly pushes back on her public IG against commenters who point out the, uh, dichotomy of their viewpoints. Fair enough -- she's not responsible for his awful views or those he hangs with.

In my journey from trad Catholic, LGBTQ acceptance was sort of the end of the journey out. When I realized I had to reconcile the idea of people created in the image and likeness of God with LGBTQ people being also created in the image and likeness of God, and these were all aspects of the sovereign creator, well, that "love one another" thing took on a whole new meaning. I had to sort through a bunch of other shit to get to that point. I'm not saying I've arrived, hell no, but as my beliefs evolved, it became easier to accept things that I had previously believed to be automatic one-way tickets to hell. I don't even believe in hell anymore either.

True. I was never really fundie-level homophobic, but in my rabid evangelical teenager phase I had a lot of that “hate the sin not the sinner” and “a temptation to be resisted like any other” rhetoric going on. But one of my closest childhood friends, who was also instrumental in my conversion to Christianity in the first place, is lesbian. Seeing all the impacts of her religious guilt and internalised homophobia and self-hate until she eventually moved to Germany and began a long-term live-in relationship with a woman, it was impossible to continue thinking a life of celibacy was what God wanted for her. She is so much more… her… now, I can’t explain it. She doesn’t dress differently or do different activities or have a different personality or anything, but when she stopped fighting her sexuality the peace and self-acceptance changed her. I feel like if God wants her to be any version of herself so far, it’s this one.

She updated that the baby arrived safely but is being treated for swallowing too much fluid during birth.

I don't know much about newborn health so I hope that's not very serious and baby will be fine.

I don't know that I have heard of a baby swallowing fluid; aspirating it would cause very serious problems.
