Because fundies believe that stereotypical gender roles are "natural" and "god's plan" while also believing that we have to have lots of rules in addition to books, seminars, podcasts, etc to remind individuals to adhere to these supposedly innate roles. The existence of trans people suggests that gender is a fluid thing that is separate from biological sex, an idea that they can't tolerate. I'm not surprised that J'Derrick is in favor of child labor, since we all know the TTH couldn't function if there weren't sister moms, brother dads, and various J'boys to act as unpaid labor.

I f*cking hate false-equivalency memes like the one D'wreck re-posted.  I'm a liberal, and I'm fine with 11-year-olds mowing lawns if it's what they choose to do for money or are expected to do as a chore.  But what really bites ass is the notion that 11-year-old transgender kids can similarly choose to have sex-reassignment surgery.  As if their parents don't have to agree and consent and a boatload of treatment specialists don't have to consult and recommend. Asking for sex reassignment surgery isn't like deciding to start up your own lawn care business.   And running your own lawn care business isn't like being exploited as child labor.  

The meme is beyond stupid.  It's just another crappy brain fart lobbed in an unedifying culture war by a self-deluded minion of right-wing political christianity.  D'wreck is a craven coward who has chosen to obfuscate the truth of a vulnerable population behind the wall of his Twitter platform.   Out of the abundance of his hardened, ignorant heart, his head tweets.  He claims the mercy of Christ, but beneath that self-righteous cloak he's a merciless fraud.

It also ignores that the kid in the photo wanted to charge his normal rate.  And that it is illegal for the government to accept free work (I think).

I read that a lot of Fundies hate equal marriage because their world has such rigidly defined gender roles, with this notion that men and women are fundamentally different.  Women are caring home makers at heart, men are manly beasts who support their families.  So the idea of 2 men sharing household duties is terrifying - and even moreso that two women could provide for themselves, change lightbulbs, do the jobs around the house.

It sounds ridiculous to me, as my parents were divorced so both ran their own homes, but even before that, my dad would share the cooking, and householdjobs were divided by who liked them more/hated them less, not by genitalia.  It's super sad that the idea that a lesbian doesn't NEED a man causes them such mental torment, but there you are.

And I wonder if something like that is going on with Derick re trans kids?  Maybe Izzy, I dunno, wanted to play with a doll, do Derick is terrified he's not a "real man"?  Maybe Derick for some reason finds comfort in the idea of "a real man" that is a universal experience, so is scared of anything that threatens this idea?

(And re trans kids - surgery and irreversible treatments are never done before they've finished growing in the UK.  Maybe a kid will be put on hormone blockers to delay puberty, so there's less surgery needed later, but that's completely reversible, and done alongside a TON of counselling.  At 12, a kid may be living according to the gender that matches who they feel they are, but the spectre of castration that I also think is behind his quite frankly rabid terror, is not something that happens to children)

I had that same thought - maybe Izzy started to put on Jill's shoes or lipstick or something and Derrick totally freaked out.

What would be hilarious about this is that Derrick himself doesn't really look like a "real man" in the most sexist definition of what a "real man" bro would look like.

I don't doubt the Duggars think the same things Derrick spouts, they just know enough to keep their mouths shut and not share certain things on social media. The Duggars want to keep the gravy train going as long as possible. I think Derrick doesn't care anymore about anything and just decided to let his asshole flag fly. He can't be getting any positive feedback from the Duggars who know their show is on the same network as Jazz and want to keep getting paid. TLC can't be happy about it. I think the Duggars are trying to go back to the time when naive people believed the Duggars were just a wonderful, wholesome Christian family. Derrick is ruining that mission. Everything Derrick does seems to scream I want a different life.

I think Derick is a lazy layabout who has genuinely contributed NOTHING to society since his marriage to Jill Duggar.  And I think he knows it.

He doesn't have work to bring him pride.  He doesn't support his family.  He isn't strong or handsome or a great athlete.  He doesn't even have a REAL ministry.  He's not even likable.

So what's left for him to draw his identity from?  His penis.  That's it.  That's all he's got left.  White male privilege.  And so he is GENUINELY threatened by those who would suggest that being born with a peen does NOT make you special....or even a man!  Those who suggest that this privilege is not sacrosanct.  That you can't just rely on the accident of your birth for your value.

It's what I like to call "Pa Finn Syndrome": when you are literally the bottom of the barrel of humanity, you cling to those social constructs that give you power.  Sure, they are arbitrary and meaningless, but they are literally all you have before you have to look at yourself in the mirror and address the fact that YOU are a worthless member of society.

Derick is nothing now, but he's even more of nothing without the privilege he was born with.  That's all he's got left, so he fights to protect it.  Pathetic.

We got a great tip when I was pregnant with our first: put on a mattress pad and sheet, the put on another waterproof mattress pad and sheet. If baby wets sheet in the middle of the night, you can just take it and the mattress pad off and be ready to go. I never change the crib sheets without taking the mattress out, so this made several nights very easy

I wonder if Derick also had his nose put out of joint by Jeremy coming along?  Before Jeremy, he was the alpha son in law, the older one who'd seen a bit of the world, and was the (relatively!) cool one.  Then Jeremy came along, and one-ups him in every way. 

Derick was Pistol Pete?  Jeremy was a professional athlete (even if at the lowest level).

Derick had traveled?  Jeremy had traveled more, and lived abroad independently.

Derick had been on missions?  Jeremy pastors his own church.

And so on, and so on, and so on.  Jeremy was friends with Ben first, so has more allies in the family.  And Jeremy has managed to be super-clever in how he's disentangled Jinger from the family (physically at least), yet still is an integral part of the brand,and Jinger seems to be thriving, as opposed to Jill's troubles in SCA.  And there have definitely been hints of Fundy catfights between the two.
