I wonder if it was also a way to extricate herself from the chaos, by taking over kitchen duty. I’ve come to realize that is my lifescript to avoid chaos and social interaction: find a job to do that is relatively thankless and solitary, and throw myself into it. Anything to be alone with my own thoughts.

That's why I think Zsuzsu is still cooking. She does nothing else, not even caring (or feeding!) the babies or homeschooling but she cooks.

In my heart of hearts I do wish that Michaela and Brandon eventually have 1-2 kids, but then are so grateful  for them and taken aback by their infertility journey that they love and cherish those kids and don't tell them that if they follow these eleventy patriarchal rules they will have the perfect life (an idea Michaela hinted at struggling with). So...I hope they conceive or adopt but then allow their actual precious blessings to be individuals with some freedom of thought and self-expression. Too much to ask?

I agree with you and I hope for that as well.

However in all reality, I think Michaela and Brandon would be the strictest parents of the bunch if they had children. I think if given the chance, they would be more fundie and more strict than Kelly and Gil even were.

They seem fully drenched in the kool-aid of fundamentalism. And in any episode where Michael has watched the kids she is very strict with them. Remember when she made gingerbread houses with the boys and said they were not allowed to eat ANY candy and when one of the boys did eat a piece she said “do not be deceitful with me, we talked about this yesterday.” And they made the boys get up at 7 a.m. every day of their visit. She also said she was very thankful that her parents were strict with her when she was growing up. She seemed to think they weren’t strict enough with the youngest kids.

I’ll never forget the episode during their courtship, where Michael flew in and surprised Brandon with a visit  for his birthday. She kept saying in her talking head that she couldn’t be deceptive or lie to him so she had to be careful about how she worded things when she talked about his birthday. Then when she got there and talked to him she once again made sure to declare to him that she did NOT lie to him.

They give me super rigid vibes.

I remember that. Michael was so excited to go surprise him. Brandon flipped out.  He practically gave her the third degree.

I literally just watched that episode and I have to disagree with the third degree thing. I did find it odd how much she kept emphasizing not being deceitful though.

I don’t think he really flipped out or grilled her either. He was definitely surprised, but he didn’t seem angry or upset - he seemed pleased she had shown up more than anything.

I completely agree with you. I’m sure they’d love their kids very much, but I’m also pretty sure they’d be incredibly strict parents - possibly the strictest of any of the married Bates or Duggar children. Anything is possible of course, but I can’t hope a kid is born into a situation like that.

I agree. I was weirded out by her telling like 13 yo boys not to eat candy while making gingerbread houses. Like thats the whole point ffs. I think shes “firm but gentle” which would be okay, a lot of kids respond really well to that approach actually, when you have firm boundaries and expectations but also express a lot of love and caring and empathy for the child. I just think she’s TOO strict. And her and Brandon are too rigid and inflexible in general.

I remember that episode, too. She told the boys they had to eat what was served, their crepes with fruit,Judson and Jeb,did not seem to like it as much as Warden and Isaiah,I am not sure about Jackson,he said something about a fruit taco...lol.I think Kelly and Gil weren't as strict, either, with the youngest boys.

Michael may have gained weight from taking fertility hormones. It also might be the same “oldest child of a food insecure family gets married and no longer has siblings taking the food out of their mouth” syndrome that afflicted Josh Duggar.

I am the same.

I become more introverted as I get older.

My two jobs (day job and night job) are chalk and cheese; one is rather solitary whereas the other is very spoken. The things we do for money...

I hope Michael's struggles to conceive doesn't give the Bateseses a reason to allow their daughters marry off earlier and earlier.  [As in-- Michael didn't get married till her mid-20s and look what happened!]

I watched that episode and thought the poor girl NEEDED structure and discipline because and seemed to be a backhanded insult to her parents that they don’t make the boys do anything. Michael probably had so much on her plate (house duties, childcare) in the Home she had to have that structure to survive. I don’t see her rigidity as a negative because I feel it was a necessity is that household where they don’t make their children wake up or do school or do anything in a realistic, timely manner...I think that trait comes cross so harsh now because she ONLY had that childrearing activity growing up. She didn’t have like,  Studies or a job (I know the nannying, but still that’s the only thing she learned) to apply this trait to so it just applies to homemaking now. Hope my rambling makes sense. I know a few very non fundie housewives who also run a household like that because I feel they have no other outlets..

Two observattion,  what is your thoughts on the below ?

Every so often  I pick up on a freindenemies vibe, sibling rivalry vibe  from Michael & Erin.   Also it seems that KellyJo seems to favor/prefer relate to Erin more so than Michael.  Which seems odd to me since Michael had KellyJo as a bridesmaid.

Michael did have studies. She graduated with an Associate’s degree from a Community College a few months after she got married. I don’t remember what program she pursued, but I think she went to school part time to save money and that she finished up in the spring of 2016.

She got something in the healthcare and medical field.  I remember her saying to one of her sisters that she already had her first responders to help. Maybe medical coding? :anyone:

Apparently the new episode of the Bates show is on Michael and Brandon moving to a house. That's a little more interesting than, say going to the dentist, but....

It’s so cringeworthy. I understand why Erin’s house looks like Pinterest puked in it.

I'm not a native english speaker - could somebody explain to me what this means?

I realize that I am becoming more andmore introverted within the last year or two. My jobs are still very spoken (one more than the other). I do enjoy both of them, but I really have to make sure to have enough quite time at home, because otherwise it would be too much for me.

It happens when you are interrogated with very specific, insistent and repeated questions, like an in depth police interview.

She talked again about their infertility problems, I was really surprised when she said she wanted another test/procedure done, but by Dr. Vick vs. her specialists in Chicago. That makes zero sense to me.

Does anyone know which suburb they live in?

Isn't doctor Vick's a free clinic? She mentioned that the tests/procedures have been expensive... So maybe that is why?

It could also be a trust or comfort issue. Dr. Vick has cared for Erin, Kelly, and (I believe) Whitney. He’s the reason Erin has her two beautiful children and one on the way and he’s also the reason Kelly had her last few children. It could be that she’s hoping that he can help her the way he helped her sister and Mom.

I think another poster has previously mentioned that Illinois is pretty progressive in what infertility treatments they insist be covered by insurance. I’m not sure if the Keilens have insurance though, so that may not be applicable to them. I do hope that someone is at least able to figure out what is going on with them.
