Odd to think that Joy couldn't legally have a champagne toast at her wedding

Oh I forgot about that (legal age is 18 in Australia) .

This just puts a whole new level of whatthefuckery to her getting married.

I know that they do use doctors and hospitals when needed but do you reckon that Michelle has seen a specialist? i sincerely hope so because all of the things people have been pointing out on FJ regards her health are kind of worrying.

You also forget that in Fundy land dying is the highlight of their "lives" especially for women who are no longer breading machines.  What else does she have to look forward to other than the glory of God in heaven.  Many don't see doctors because if God wants them God will take them. Now not all Fundies think like this but I know several fundy lite folks who do.

I finally get to make another post after a super long semester (I'm almost done so claps for that) and of course I had to binge read all these new threads immediately.

Do we have any Duggar predictions for the next little while? For the next season of the show, I'm predicting it will be about 70% flashbacks, 10% previews, and 20% new content (if we're lucky).

THIS! Counting On has just been a mixed up bunch of footage of stuff we've already seen over and over. It's as if the production company can't be bothered to actually film and edit new footage. I'm officially fed up and going to stop-watch track the new season of Counting On. My plan is to start a timer every time a "flashback" or similar situation happens and see just how much of this show is regurgitated. I'm willing to sacrifice doing this to spare the masses from wondering just how much of this show is repeated.

14. The show will cover the lead up to JoStin's wedding. We will all be bored because it's the same shit with different names.

15. Someone will get alcohol poisoning while playing a drinking game during Joy's wedding. Possibly Buzzard if she does the recap - pretty sure drinking is the only way to recap a Duggar wedding and stay sane.

While doing the timing thing, I'll have to make it a drinking game in hopes that I don't die from boredom as you've predicted. :my_biggrin:

I love this discussion about the Duggars' drinks of choice. If Joy were legal I could see her being into craft beer.

If she were legal and didn't come from a family that thinks drinking is so wrong Jesus must have turned water into grape juice...

I think the rest are minors. Odd to think that Joy couldn't legally have a champagne toast at her wedding. Her man looks like he would like beer.

Couldn't she have? Austin is over 21 and once married spouses are considered legal decision makers. Just like parents can legally let their kids drink in their presence, same with spouses. I don't know anything about Arkansas, just remember it being on my Texas bartending exam.

Perhaps. I'm not sure about Arkansas. I doubt she could be served legally in a bar, but consuming alcohol in a private residence wouldn't be an offence. I'm from Ontario. The drinking age is 19 here and that was a long time ago for me!

this one was flat-out funny!

Re:  Joy being under 21 while Austin is over--some states will not allow her to be served in public under any circumstances.  i've been to restaurants where everyone in my group who ordered has been carded, regardless of age.  about 10 years ago, i was on vacation with my mom, my sister, and her kids.  grandma was about 60 at the time.  one night over dinner, Grandma was kid-wrangling and left her purse at the hotel.  she ordered a 7-and-7 but had no ID, so the waitress was not allowed to provide the drink.  we don't live in PA, so i don't know if that law is still in effect.

I know Counting On is more focused on the girls, but any thoughts on the boys ALERT academy stuff being focused now that there's an engagement? Or is that one of the portions of their life they'll edit out since it's less mainstream/ has negative connotations? Nothing against the Duggars there, just where I grew up attending military style academy camps or schools was usually code for problem child.

I don't think that's what or why their boys go, I'm just curious how they're viewed at large. I'm also from a military family so I could definitely be way off base in my assumptions.

In this day and age, despite the shield of white/Christian privilege, TLC is probably savvy enough to know that a lot of viewers might get the heebie-jeebies from seeing a bunch of impressionable young boys being shipped off to a religious fundamentalist paramilitary training camp in the boonies.

Thankfully, a young man can't attend ALERT until he's 18. Unless you're a Duggar. Jer was 17 when he went, but he's a Duggar, and Waller has enough power to grant priveleges like that, IMO. Joseph was 19, I think. Josiah spent most of his 18th year there. That was sad. And Josiah is now broken.

What are they doing in Waco? How far is that from Laredo? Are they visiting Jinger?

ETA: I Google mapped it.  5 hours from Waco to Laredo. But Waco is enough route from Arkansas to Laredo if they drive.

I know the Duggars don't drink, but if they did, here are the drinks I think they'd go for:

I would love nothing more than to see a Duggar tipsy. Real bachelor/bachelorette parties, 21st birthday celebrations, that would make this show slightly more interesting.

Every born-a-Duggar boy- Bud

Jana- white wine

Anna- pink wine

Jill- tequila sunrise

Jessa- extra dry martini or gin & tonic

Jinger- cosmopolitan

Dwreck- still wouldn't drink because he hates fun

Ben- Bud Light Lime

Jeremy- craft beer from a growler he got directly from the brewery

@emscm, I think I'd add bargain-priced box wine for JB & M. (maybe they'll save the difference)

Thanks for the clarification! It's so different in each state, even county to county.

I would simply like to add on that I believe Ben would have a tall BLL, and match his koozies to his hats, but mainly just rock Flame the rapper koozies. Joy would also enjoy a koozie from time to time.

That's not how it works in most of the US.

My husband is 6 months older than me and we married when we were 20. When he turned 21 I could legally be served at a bar as long as I showed our marriage license. However therewas also bartender discretion so if they weren't comfortable with it they didn't have to serve me. I have never been a big drinker so we only did that a couple times. I did get served a handful of times though as a teen with my parents. Good ol' lax drinking laws in WI.

I've been to a few weddings recently, all in Connecticut. The venues were all very careful about who they served. My sister was actually informed they would shut her wedding down if they found anyone under 21 drinking due to liability issues. They could lose their liquor license or worse.

All the newlywed couples in those weddings (mine included) were well over 21 though. So I'm not sure how that would have been handled. I do like to think the Duggars and other non-drinkers still do a nice toast at least. Maybe using cider or something.

Wow.  I live in PA and parents have been arrested for furnishing their "kids" with alcohol. I was married before I was 21, and was definitely not allowed to drink legally even though my husband was of age.   I had a fake ID, so I did anyway, lol.

One of the Duggar planes stopped in Waco twice recently. It's been discussed here:

I'm just more pissed that Jennifer Hartono doesn't get named in the caption. Can't tell if it's racism, Michelle being lazy, or they're already absorbing her further into the Borg via a courtship, and as Jocutus of Dorg, she no longer has need for an individual name. Maybe they'll call her Jennifer-Sharon a la the Maxwells so we don't confuse her with Jenni.

I think the Insta account belongs to a fan who probably doesn't know Jennifer Hartono.  Just a guess

Yeah, WI and TX are the only two states I remember having laws like that. There may be/or have been others. I know even states with pretty loose laws have tightened up in recent years, do either of those states still allow that?

When I first went into the air force the drinking age was 21 but a nearby army base the age was 18. That was also Texas, but that changed shortly after I got there.

No offence @cascarones but could somebody who knows Australian English translate that for me please?  When I googled and "Koozie" is coming up as a stubby holder type thing, however I think something got lost in translation, Joy enjoying a stubby holder from time to time just doesn't translate.
