You know every time I see these I do a mental check to try and remember if JRod or Bro Gary were near there. I am just waiting for the travelling Grifting Ministry And "Singers" clusters to appear that this point.

I have Bro Gary to thank for bringing this brilliant conspiracy theorist to my attention:

Quote

ATTENTION FRIENDS & FAMILY - Before you run out and get yourself "TESTED" for COVID-19 consider a few facts. 1) Modern Science can take a swab from the inside of your cheek and do a COMPLETE DNA MAPPING. 2) If this COVID-19 is so CONTAGIOUS that tiny microscopic particles of Saliva in your MOUTH could spread out in excess of 6 feet and you need to wear a mask to stop the Spread. WHY not Swab the inside of your HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS MOUTH ? 3) When you tilt your head back are you sure that is just a Q-Tip going 6 inches up your nose ? - Is it possible that instead of retreiving a SAMPLE, they could actually be IMPLANTING SOMETHING ? ? ? Again DNA can be done at home through the mail with simple MOUTH SWAB but the HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS COVID-19 in your MASK COVERED MOUTHS can't be tested with a Mouth Swab ? ? Does this sound LOGICAL ?

Now he's pissed off because he was just asking a QUESTION, and how can you FACT-CHECK a QUESTION? Damn Liberal Commie hippies grumble grumble.

Quote

The left never FACT CHECKED anything during the Obama Years. This "FACT CHECK" HOAX was developed as a way to try and make Liberal Lies look like TRUTH to those who are too stupid or too lazy to research for themselves. Today I am proud to be able to EXPOSE these FACT CHECKS for the FAKE NEWS that they really are. One of my post that clearly posed as QUESTION was FACT CHECKED by these IDIOTS. If your Smarter than a 5th Grader you understand that a STATEMENT could possibly be FACT CHECKED. Again my my post was a QUESTION, so pushing a political agenda ? Because FACT CHECKING a QUESTION how does that work ? Does that sound LOGICAL to you ? ? ? Perhaps I got too close to the TRUTH ? ? ?

You tell 'em, Dave.

Conspiracy theorist dies of covid-19 after trying to catch it so he could prove it was a hoax.

Spoiler

A young conspiracy theorist has died of coronavirus after trying to catch the disease at a ‘Covid party’ to prove it was a hoax. The unidentified victim, who was in their 30s and from San Antonio in Texas, spoke of their regret to a nurse after testing positive for Covid-19 and being rushed to hospital, where they later died. Dr Jane Appleby, from Methodist Healthcare said: ‘Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said “I think I made a mistake, I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not.”‘ Dr Appleby also spoke of her horror at hearing how the Covid-19 victim had attended a party with someone who tested positive for the disease in a bid to disprove experts’ warnings about the danger coronavirus poses.

It doesn’t discriminate and none of us are invincible. I don’t want to be an alarmist and we’re just trying to share some real-world examples to help our community realize that this virus is very serious and can spread easily.’ Texas has seen a massive surge in coronavirus cases since mid-June, and has now recorded more than 250,000 diagnoses, and over 3,100 deaths. Governor Greg Abbott has ordered his citizens to wear a mask in public, after being criticized for reopening the Lone Star state too early.

I have no idea how legit this is, but unfortunately I would believe someone was this idiotic.

What cracks me up about conspiracy theorists is how competent and clever all their posts indicate  the government is. I mean...even in the best times - nope!

We can barely get tests. Who exactly is collecting, cataloguing, and storing extensive DNA mapping for unknown nefarious purposes? Maybe that person should run for office simply because they’re capable of getting something done! ?

6 people fined for lying on declarations that they had not been in hotspot areas while trying to enter QLD.

Seriously, this is why we can't have nice things. This is why we end up having to police quarantine, state borders, the outskirts of Melbourne and so on. Because far too many people assume that they can ignore the requests, and then the rules and then the laws that end up having to be put in place to stop the spread of this effing virus.

Oh and some moron put up signs on council playgrounds:

I can't believe you are even asking this question.  IT IS OBVS GEORGE SOROS KILLARY DEEP STATE SHIT.

Here's the deal about coronavirus parties.  If someone's already tested and been confirmed to have it, it's not a hoax.  If that someone that already has it is an a symptomatic super spreader and you breathe in their breath, hang out talking to them, you're fucked.  You've inhaled a massive dose of virus and that could be what happened to our feckless coronavirus party goer.

Also, another note.  I'm a believer in the protective effects of Vitamin D and take a supplement.  I'd known about the benefits of Vitamin D for years,  I recently watched an interesting video of a regular ENT doc at a regular medical conference discussing the science (peer reviewed studies) confirming that it works to keep shit from taking hold in your nose.  I think taking a Vitamin D supplement is an excellent adjunct to wearing a mask, social distancing and staying at home.

I'll noodle around a bit on the google to see if I can find some links.

My doctor actually prescribed vitamin d for me. She had read an article (as had I) about vitamin d possibly protecting (at least some) against coronavirus.  (Don’t know if this is the article she read)

https://www.uchicagomedicine.org/forefront/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/vitamin-d-deficiency-may-raise-risk-of-getting-covid19

Take care though, It is possible to overdose on vit d. My doctor prescribed 5000 units a day, but I was deficient to start with. This article from Harvard recommends no more than 4000 units a day, unless your doctor prescribes otherwise.

I don't have an issue with the idea that an adequate intake of vitamin D can be helpful in maintaining health, as is a balanced healthy diet and exercise. I do have a pretty major issue with someone going around putting up fake signs under the council logo and giving what I would describe as unsupported "medical" information while strongly implying that if kids get it then it's no big deal. Adding "please maintain social distancing" to the bottom of the sign doesn't change that for me.

As to vitamin D a recent quick review of the evidence found some efficacy in preventing respiratory infections when taken as supplementation over a period of time but that the studies didn't distinguish between upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and there was no evidence of vitamin D efficacy in preventing covid-19, and no evidence of vitamin D-deficient patients getting sick at higher rates. Basically it can't hurt, but at the moment there's not the evidence to say it will help against this particular virus either - and certainly a mask, hand washing, distancing have been shown to be much more effective.

Also stop assuming kids only get mild illness and are expendable, sheesh.

It's incredibly weird to me how people are like, "kids will be fine, they're hardly affected by COVID-19, they need to be in school".

So I guess the teachers and support staff won't be there...?

We had this entire discussion over Easter. Even if kids under 12 get disease less severely due to immune system differences where does this leave teachers and other adults in the school? Where does it leave kids 12 and over? As it was we reopened schools in two waves post Easter (yr 11/12 and prep-2 first then 3-10 two weeks later) and now we have one cluster out of a high school which started as a family cluster but spread because teenagers aren't great at social distancing either, as well as at least three other primary and two other high schools closed because of cases (those are the ones I can remember offhand). There are at least two teachers that I can think of that have been infected.

You also have issues here with parents not socially distancing while dropping off/picking up kids, and to be honest I am surprised there hasn't been a case linked to school buses or other public transport yet.

The other problem is that it sends the subconscious message that things are "back to normal" and people essentially drop their guard a bit. I think there are ways they could run schools in a socially distant way, basically by reducing the numbers present at any one time, but this requires political will and money to pay people.

Dude, we are adapting. It's called keep 6 feet away from other people and wear a mask. It seems like your followers and Trump's followers are the ones who are not adapting.

I know I have identified this before, but I live in the Pacific Northwest we know from the science that every approximately 300 to 500 years there is a major earthquake caused by the subduction of the Juan de fuca plate. When that happens, life as we know it will not be the same for a long time. With approximately a 9.0 earthquake homes are not going to be rebuilt, stores will not be full of food, and the infrastructure will not be working in 4 weeks. To rebuild will take months and probably years. All of you covid deniers just don't get that we are going to have to live with this for a while.

Louisiana man is facing felony charges now over his being a Branch Covidian over masks.

Quote

Ricky Taylor, 64, was inside a Walmart near his West Monroe home Tuesday evening when a cop--apparently working an off-duty security detail at the store--advised him that “the business’ policy is for every customer to wear a mask.”

Upon being offered a mask, Taylor allegedly began cursing out the officer. “You can’t make me wear a fucking mask,” said Taylor. “I’m not wearing a fucking mask.” Taylor would later claim that a purported “medical condition” prevented him from wearing a mask.

Due to Taylor’s unruly behavior, Walmart wanted him “placed on trespass notice,” so the cop asked Taylor for his driver’s license. “I could give it to you but I’m not,” he replied while exiting the store and heading for his vehicle.

While visitors to the West Monroe store already must wear a mask, the entire Walmart chain will require them starting July 20. Police blotters nationwide are expected to immediately reflect the fallout from this policy change.

Wouldn't surprise me if some fuckheads get themselves in trouble with the law over mask mandates.

Pair attempt to cross border, are turned back, take back roads, get bogged - and are rescued by police, who fined them.

At the moment if you are crossing into any other state from Victoria you need an exemption, and/or to go into mandatory quarantine. If you don't have the exemptions (applied for online) they won't let you in.

Spoiler

Two Victorian men have been caught trying to enter South Australia via a back road on Thursday in order to dodge the state’s COVID-19 border checkpoint.

But things went pear-shaped when the duo bogged their Volkswagen van on a dirt track near Pinehill Rd.

The pair allegedly tried to cross the South Australian border near Bordertown at 4am Thursday but were intercepted by authorities on the Dukes Highway.

The 23-year-old Tarneit man and 18-year-old Delahey man failed to complete a compulsory online application and were refused entry as their travel was deemed non-essential.

They were told if they wished to enter South Australia they would be required to isolate for 14 days.

Police say the duo decided to return to Victoria.

However, just 12 hours later police spotted the same van bogged on a dirt road near Senior.

Police allege the two men had tried to re-enter South Australia by evading the border checkpoint and travelling along back roads.

They copped on-the-spot fines of $1060 each for failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act 2004.

They were given the option again to self-isolate for 14 days or return to Victoria.

“They wisely chose the latter option and were escorted back over the border,” police said.

SA Police is actively patrolling cross border roads from Victoria and anyone detected entering South Australia illegally will be penalised.

Leaving aside the weirdness of having internal border controls (between that and the toilet paper queues in lock down #1 we appear to have moved to Soviet era times) I wish people would just stay the hell home. There are exemptions for essential travel and people living in border regions do need to travel across the border routinely - and idiots like these two basically just choke up the system. We're never reopening at this rate.

Hey that's Florida Woman's gig California Woman!

Quote

A California woman visited a Verizon store on Friday in Roseville, outside Sacramento, without wearing a mask. When employees asked her to put one on or leave — as required by the store's policy — she pulled down her pants and urinated on the floor, the police told CBS Sacramento and People magazine.

A spokesman for the Roseville Police Department told People that officers identified the 32-year-old woman as a suspect in an earlier theft reported at Dick's Sporting Goods and found several bags of stolen items in her car.

"This is an extremely odd incident," the spokesman, Rob Baquera, told People. "Never before have I seen someone become so disgruntled while shopping. In the end, this suspect's actions helped lead to her ultimate arrest."

The woman, who was not named in the reports, was charged with grand theft and could face additional charges related to the public urination, Baquera told People.

I wasn't sure where to put this, but my local newspaper carried the story below:

Movie theaters implore studios: Release the blockbusters

Quote

NEW YORK (AP) — A long time ago in a pre-COVID universe far, far away, blockbusters opened around the globe simultaneously or nearly so. In 1975, “Jaws” set the blueprint. Concentrate marketing. Open wide. Pack them in.

Since then, Hollywood has turned opening weekends into an all-out assault. Staggered rollouts still happen, of course, but the biggest films are dropped like carpet bombs. Anything less risks losing the attention of moviegoers. Global debuts north of $300 million became commonplace. Last year, “Avengers: Endgame” made well north of $1 billion in a couple days.

Hollywood has now gone more than four months without a major theatrical release. While some films have found new streaming homes, the biggest upcoming ones — “Tenet,” “Mulan,” “A Quiet Place Part II” — remain idled like jumbo jets on the tarmac. The leading chains are still shuttered. Recent coronavirus spikes have forced release dates to shuffle and chains to postpone reopening to August.

Now, movie houses say that despite far from ideal circumstances, it’s time for new movies. Four months of near zero revenue has brought the $50 billion annual business to its knees. While the beleaguered restaurant industry still has takeout and airlines continue to operate with masked flyers, the vast majority of U.S. movie theaters haven’t punched a single ticket since March. Some have turned to selling popcorn curbside.

“The problem is, we need their movies,” says John Fithian, president and chief executive of National Association of Theater Owners. “Distributors who want to play movies theatrically, they can’t wait until 100% of markets are allowed open because that’s not going to happen until there’s a vaccine widely available in the world.”

“The old distribution models of big blockbusters,” adds Fithian, “need to be rethought.”

That may mean returning to a more old-fashioned release pattern, opening films overseas first and, in the U.S., opening at different times in different areas. When Warner Bros. earlier this week announced it was delaying the release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” because of the rise in cases, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said the studio is “not treating ‘Tenet’ like a traditional global day-and-date release.”

Right now, the biggest movies are getting further away, not closer. AMC, the world’s largest circuit, on Thursday delayed its reopening from the end of July to mid-to-late August. After “Tenet” earlier this week postponed indefinitely, Disney’s “Mulan” followed suit Thursday. Disney also pushed back numerous releases, including films in the “Avatar” and “Star Wars” franchises, back by a year.

The coronavirus crisis has ushered in new chapter in the often symbiotic, occasionally quarrelsome relationship between distributors and exhibitors. Splitting ticket sale revenue approximately in half, their fortunes have often been closely linked.

The largest studios — the Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros., Universal — now all have streaming services of their own now, along with television operations. So they have options. The on-demand release of “Trolls” caused a rift between Universal and AMC. But the two halves of theatrical moviegoing have worked largely in concert through the pandemic thus far.

It’s in their own self-interest. Studios have been loath to sacrifice billions in box office for their priciest and most popular releases. On Thursday, John Stankey, chief executive of Warner Bros. parent company AT&T said direct release to HBO Max could be option for some Warner Bros. movies but not the $200 million “Tenet.”

With distancing protocols and other measures, cinemas have reopened in parts of Europe, the Middle East and South Korea, where last weekend Yeon Sang-ho’s “Train to Busan” action sequel “Peninsula” debuted with $13.2 million. Theaters in China, the world’s second largest movie market, this week reopened with theaters limited to 30% capacity.

North America, usually the main event of a blockbuster release, may have to learn to follow the rest of the world.

Despite the virus surge in much of the U.S., exhibitors believe they can operate relatively safely by adhering to health officials, decreasing theater capacity and cleaning in between showings. After initially flip-flopping, AMC will require patrons to wear masks.

Some moviegoers, naturally, don’t anticipate going, regardless of what comes out. Jeffrey Shaman, an epidemiologist at Columbia University, isn’t planning to go to the movies this year.

“It seems prudent to think that indoors is where the lion share of transmission takes place,” says Shaman. “You could think: well, it’s a movie theater. If you space people out, it’s a big room, tall ceilings. If they get the ventilation cranked up, it’s actually not the most concentrated environment. It’s not liked a packed bar with a low ceiling. It’s probably not as dangerous as that scenario. But is it more dangerous than sitting home and watching Netflix? Yes, of course it is.”

But imperfect may be all cinemas and studios have for now. Fithian believes 75% of U.S. theaters could be open within days if they had new movies. (Those currently open are mainly playing older films.) Theaters are closed in California and have yet to reopen in New York despite the state’s relative success in combating the virus. That removes the two top cities in ticket sales, Los Angeles and New York.

“The longer this goes, there will be bankruptcy filings and reorganizations and there will be people who go out of business,” says Fithian who’s currently lobbying for greater Congressional support for theaters. “But if there are no new movies until that’s a vaccine, that’s a dire situation for a lot of companies.”

AMC recently raised $300 million in debt relief to help itself remain solvent. Throughout the industry, some 150,000 workers remain furloughed.

Jonathan Kuntz, a film historian and professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, says “Tenet” “was made for a world that no longer exists.”

But as much as the familiar kind of worldwide launch is now impossible, the downside of improvising might not be as bad as it seems — provided piracy isn’t widespread. There will be scant competition. “Tenet” can take up most screens. Its opening can be spread out through the week. Advertising will be cheaper. Audiences will have little to distract them.

“They’re going to have to be very inventive and very nimble to squeeze what they can out of this movie and maybe set a pattern for this kind of COVID theatrical universe we’re moving into,” says Kuntz. “If they don’t do something, if they just keeping holding the films back, the theaters are going to die. Then everything’s going to just be streaming and we’ll have lost something a lot of people — not just Christopher Nolan — treasure.”

So I scroll down to the comment section thinking that there would be people talking about movies they wanted to see, or maybe reminiscing about movies they enjoyed watching before the coronavirus changed everything. Not even close. I've got people talking about how many celebrities are in hiding, or on their way to jail, and speculating about how many of them have kuru. I had no idea what that was, so I looked it up:

Quote

Kuru is a rare and fatal brain disorder that occurred at epidemic levels during the 1950s-60s among the Fore people in the highlands of New Guinea. The disease was the result of the practice of ritualistic cannibalism among the Fore, in which relatives prepared and consumed the tissues (including brain) of deceased family members. Brain tissue from individuals with kuru was highly infectious, and the disease was transmitted either through eating or by contact with open sores or wounds. Government discouragement of the practice of cannibalism led to a continuing decline in the disease, which has now mostly disappeared.

A South Carolina man who was recorded walking around a Walmart “coughing on food items and general merchandise” has been arrested on a pair of felony charges.

Kyle Arendell, 39, was busted yesterday for aggravated breach of peace and malicious injury to property in connection with a disturbance Sunday evening at a Walmart near his Spartanburg home.

As seen in a video recorded by a fellow shopper, Arendell--who is not wearing a protective mask--deliberately coughs on a variety of items as he pushes a blue cart across the store. Hacking loudly, Arendell “did intentionally cause a scene” according to an arrest warrant.

While court records do not reveal why Arendell went on the coughing rampage, he allegedly claimed he “could or did have COVID-19.” Seen at right, Arendell is locked up in the county jail in lieu of $6000 bond.
