Heard this on the news this morning.  The school is in Fulton County, where the teen died, but it's unknown if the teen attended the afterparty.

Several high school students in Georgia tested positive for COVID-19 after participating in a drive-through graduation ceremony, school officials said in a letter to students' families that was first reported by CNN.

The Lovett School in Atlanta Georgia did not disclose how many students had tested positive for COVID-19 after their drive-through graduation, but described the number as "several" in the letter from Head of School Meredyth Cole and Head Nurse Shana Horan.

"Unfortunately the infectious nature of the COVID-19 virus means that most communities will be touched at some point, and we recognize how hard separation and missed milestones have been on the emotional lives of our students," they said in the letter. "Families of the students diagnosed with COVID-19 are working with the appropriate healthcare professionals and Departments of Health."

The Lovett School, which is an independent, coeducational day school that teaches students kindergarten through 12th grade, closed its campus in mid-March to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, according to CNN.

The school postponed its traditional graduation ceremony to late July, but on May 17 held a drive-through parade to celebrate graduating seniors, CNN affiliate WSB reported. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, some students arrived in groups and were in close quarters with one another.

AJC reported that the school announced several students had tested positive for the virus after initially sending an email to parents about one student who had tested positive for COVID-19.

The student "was confined to his or her car while on campus," but "later had company over for a graduation gathering, and then traveled out of town with friends," school officials told AJC.

It remains unknown if the virus spread at the drive-through graduation or an off-campus event.

"The school has been made aware of several off-campus social gatherings but has no information on any private events," a spokesperson for the school said in a statement to Insider. "Families of the graduates diagnosed with COVID-19 are working with the appropriate healthcare professionals and Departments of Health."

The Georgia Department of Public Health said Sunday that a 17-year-old boy has died of the coronavirus, marking this the youngest fatality and first pediatric death in the state.

Nancy Nydam with the department confirmed the information to Channel 2 Action News Sunday.

The teen was from Fulton County and had an underlying condition, according to officials. His identity has not been released.

Alyssa Milano snaps back at people after she posts a picture of herself wearing a CROCHETED mask.

She’s not helping the situation at all.  I noted that she was on her high horse about the incident at the one grocery store in Staten Island I mentioned above.  And when someone gets shot or beaten to death for not wearing a mask I wouldn’t be surprised if she was right there to applaud the perpetrator.

Woman with 10-month-old baby is now arguing against school closures, because of this study.

Of course, she doesn't have any kids in school and apparently I, someone with no kids, knows more about how COVID-19 seems to be affecting kids in a different way. Even if they don't infect adults, why would you want to risk your kid getting this??? I don't get it.

A Covidiot in Kentucky is out of a job

Quote

The protester who hoisted an effigy of Gov. Andy Beshear from a tree at the Kentucky State Capitol has been fired from his job at an auto dealer.

Terry Bush, president of the Kentucky 3 Percenters group, was fired by Neil Huffman Auto Group on Tuesday, his wife Patsy Bush confirmed on Wednesday morning.

The auto dealer had announced Tuesday evening that it had terminated an unnamed employee who was involved in the protest Sunday where the effigy was hanged, saying it did not "condone threats of violence in any form."

Terry Bush has not responded to a request for comment left with his wife.

And being an idiot he’s whining that his 1A rights were violated.

https://news.yahoo.com/texas-bar-owner-refuses-allow-144500370.html

Quote

You'll be asked to leave this Texas bar if you do wear a mask.

The owners of Liberty Tree Tavern in Elgin have decided to do the opposite of the many bars and restaurants across the country recommending or requiring patrons to wear masks as they reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Due to our concern for our customers, if they FEEL (not think) that they need to wear a mask, they should stay at home until they FEEL that it’s safe to be in public without one," a sign on the front window of the bar reads. "Sorry, No Mask Allowed."

Liberty Tree Tavern co-owner Kevin Smith told NBC affiliate KXAN that he feels he's already taking enough precautions with social distancing and occupancy limits that he doesn't want customers wearing masks.

"It's more of a push back — the snitches and the contact tracers out there,'' Smith said. "This is still a rural county."

The city of about 10,000 people has 53 recorded coronavirus cases and one death, according the Austin American-Statesman, a Texas newspaper.

Charles Chamberlain, a regular patron at the bar, told the outlet that he's fine with the no-mask policy, even as a stage 4 cancer and H1N1 virus survivor, which puts him at high risk for severe complications from the coronavirus.

"You should have a choice of what you want to do," he said. "If I get it, I get it. If I do, I’ll deal with that. You can’t live forever."

Liberty Tree Tavern's decision to ban masks comes as restaurant and bar owners across the country work to determine what changes they will institute to prevent the spread of the virus while also making patrons feel comfortable.

Country star John Rich, owner of Redneck Riviera bar and restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, is requiring employees to wear masks, but not customers.

"I think that personal responsibility is a big thing right now," Rich told Craig Melvin on TODAY earlier this month. "I’ve seen certain governments around our country, I think, overreach with people. I think you got to treat us like adults."

"We’re all very well aware that this virus is deadly," he continued. "This virus is nasty and that you don’t want to transmit it, and so a lot of our customers are actually wearing masks when they come in. We also have masks on hand if they don’t have one and offer them one."

Quote

A Michigan court on Thursday ordered a barber to close his shop and stop defying the state's coronavirus restrictions, though he vowed to keep cutting hair.

The Michigan appeals court overturned a decision by a Shiawassee County judge and ordered him to sign an injunction sought by state regulators.

Karl Manke, 77, said he's not backing down. He told The Associated Press that he got the news while cutting someone's hair and he doesn't intend to comply with it.

“I could care less,” he said by phone from his shop in Owosso, about 70 miles northwest of Detroit. “If they want to put me in jail, put me in jail. ... I will be governed — fair governing — but not ruled. This is a police state action.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has kept barbershops and hair salons closed for weeks, citing a high risk of virus transmission as stylists cut hair and people wait for their turn.

“Uncontroverted evidence clearly revealed that COVID-19 is a highly communicable illness,” the appeals court said. “Uncontroverted evidence revealed that COVID-19 is spread by infected persons showing no symptoms that could serve to warn others of the possibility of infection.”

Manke's attorney, David Kallman, said he would appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court.

Manke reopened his shop on May 4, saying he needed to make money and declaring that the “government is not my mother.” He has been ticketed for violating Whitmer's orders. Separate from the court case, he's had his shop and barber's licenses suspended. Nonetheless, customers have traveled from all over the state to get a haircut and endorse his defiance.

Manke gave free haircuts last week during a protest at the state Capitol. Texas hair salon owner Shelley Luther, who was briefly jailed for opening her shop, appeared at a rally outside Manke's business.

"This is still a rural county", FFS. Are there humans? Do they come in contact with each other? Then the virus can spread. They should ask themselves if they get flu cases in their town - if the answer is yes then coronavirus spread is equally likely.

As to the second guy - sign the DNR now please, and don't put hospital staff at risk trying to intubate you.

Elgin, TX, home to Liberty Tree Tavern, was not so long ago a very small town east of Austin.  Housing developments now dot former farm fields and suburban growth is sprawling out from Austin plus a major highway between Austin and Houston passes through there. It's not some bitty place in the middle of nowhere.  It's not quite a suburb of Austin yet, but it's close.  Lots of people that shop at the local HEB (Texas grocery store chain) commute to Austin to work.  Plenty of opportunity of CV 19 to get worse.

Also, I'm trying to remember if they even have a hospital. If so, it's tiny.  I think there might be a new hospital on the highway to Austin -- a branch of a big hospital system in Waco.  Anyway, if someone gets severely ill, they are going to end up in one of the major hospitals in Austin.

Pete Evans backs "ridiculous" anti-5G, vaccines and covid-19 protests.

Because of course he does. Pete Evans, for those fortunate enough to have never heard of him, is a "celebrity chef" who has gotten progressively more batty since starting a Paleo diet/empire. It's probably the lack of carbs affecting his brain.

Anyway. The protesters managed to describe 5G as "communism" (?!?), have one speaker say that vaccines made you more susceptible to catching covid-19 followed by a speaker who claimed that it was all a hoax, and generally used their phones and presumably 4G connections to film and promote the event.

Then they were fined for breaching lockdown laws in two states, as they were over the number permitted to gather in groups.

Seriously, if these dipsticks precipitate another damn cluster and cause the lockdown to be extended and/or tightened again I will be very annoyed. Get off your damn smartphones, they're making you stupid(er).

I have a neighbor who is into ... alternative ... things (healing circles, crystal bowls, essential oils, etc.) Not surprisingly, she's also an anti-vaxxer. Luckily her only child is in his 30s and she didn't get into the non-traditional stuff until he was in his teens, so he received all his vaccinations when he was young. Well, she called me in a panic about 5G. She told me that she heard we are to unplug our wi-fi routers every night to prevent 5G from impacting us so much. It took me an hour to explain how wf-routers have nothing to do with 5G. Sigh.

A whole lot of crazy, all in one list:

Spoiler

Anyone else read Billy's drivel on Facebook? (his page is public) For those who don't, he's a 9/11 denying, chemtrail believing, anti-Democrat, anti-vax, anti-Big Pharma southern California surfer dude who thinks his magic chiropractic skills can solve any medical dilemma. He also thinks George Floyd's death was staged. He likes to use a lot of ellipsises, which is how I know he did not compile this list, so it's probably going to pop up elsewhere. He recently flew on a plane and was forced to wear a mask, so he cleverly made one out of a hamburger wrapper:

The California Jam on his hat refers to a yearly rock concert/alternative health festival that he participates in.

He does paleo or keto or something like that; he hasn't posted any meal pics in a while and I can't remember. He doesn't do processed foods. He probably put up a big fuss at the airport, saw someone eating a Carl's Jr. burger, and thought he'd be super creative with his required mask.

Not related to Covid, but I just had to share. This same neighbor called me to say that she heard that the George Floyd killing was not racially motivated, but that the police officer and Floyd were both gay and Floyd had threatened to expose the police officer. I asked her if she was crazy. Sigh. These people walk among us...

I actually had the thought that it may have been an issue between them since they apparently  worked together in the past.  But in my opinion that just makes it worse.  That means a cop committed premeditated murder assisted by 3 other cops in broad daylight knowing that since the victim was black he wouldn't be questioned about it.

During a hearing Tuesday on whether to declare racism a public health crisis in Ohio, a Republican state senator referred to “the colored population” and questioned whether they get COVID-19 more often because they do not wash their hands as much.

During a discussion with Angela Dawson, director of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health, Sen. Steve Huffman, a doctor from Tipp City north of Dayton, said, “I understand that African Americans have a higher incidence of prior conditions and that makes them more susceptible to COVID, but does not make them more susceptible just to get COVID.

“We know it’s twice as often, correct? Could it just be that African Americans – the colored population — do not wash their hands as well as other groups? Or wear a mask? Or do not socially distance themselves? Could that just be maybe the explanation of why there’s a higher incidence?”

Then there's Erin Olszewski, an anti-vax Florida nurse (autistic kid, blames MMR vaccine) who went to a NYC hospital for a temporary position. According to her facebook page (Erin Marie, it's the first one that comes up in a search, and her page is unrestricted), she was in NYC on April 22, still waiting to find out where she'd be working.  On May 21 (a month later), she was escorted out of the hospital for being a "whistleblower." Apparently she didn't believe COVID-19 was real and had intended to tell the world about it, but once she got there, she shifted her focus to all the nurses and doctors who were "murdering" patients. She filmed colleagues without their consent or knowledge and discussed patients in posts, which is a HIPAA violation. She's been discussed in the Conspiracy Talk (closed) group on Facebook. She was supposed to be on Tucker Carlson's show last night, but got bumped to tonight's show. I'm sure Tucker will look confused. Her video is over an hour long.

Thank you so much for linking to him, new podcast rabbit hole!

As to Erin Olszewski - I really don't understand someone going to the lengths of travelling several thousand km, volunteering at a hospital, seeing all the sick people and still thinking that they Hold The One True Fact. I don't want to wish she gets sick - because I don't want her putting others at risk, including her child - but I do hope she faces some consequences for this, particularly the HIPAA breaches.

As to Steve Huffman, well there's a reason the BLM marches are happening - and he is part of why people are so angry. It's not just the murders in plain view - it's the constant bullshit from people like him. How can you trust a doctor to treat you who doesn't see you as equal? How can you trust a senator to represent you?

He's been fired: "Ohio GOP lawmaker fired from ER job over remarks about ‘colored population’ and covid-19"

Quote

A Republican lawmaker in Ohio was fired from his job as a physician for asking whether “African Americans or the colored population” have been disproportionately affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic because they “do not wash their hands as well as other groups.”

State Sen. Steve Huffman, who represents a district north of Dayton, raised the question Tuesday during a hearing on whether to declare racism a public health crisis. Huffman, an emergency room doctor, wanted to know why African American communities are being hit so much harder by the virus, posing the query to Angela Dawson, executive director of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health.

“I understand African Americans have a higher incidence of chronic conditions and that makes them more susceptible to death from covid. But why does it not make them more susceptible to just get covid?” he asked. “Could it just be that African Americans or the colored population do not wash their hands as well as other groups? Or wear a mask? Or do not socially distance themselves? Could that be the explanation for why the higher incidence?"

Dawson, who is black, quickly challenged the senator’s suggestion.

“That is not the opinion of leading medical experts in this country,” she responded, later adding: “Do all populations need to wash their hands? Absolutely, sir, but that is not where you are going to find the variance and the rationale for why these populations are more vulnerable.”

Huffman’s remarks, which came amid widespread protests calling for racial justice and equality following the death of George Floyd, prompted swift outcry online and from other local lawmakers.

On Thursday, Huffman was fired from his emergency-room physician job for the comments.

“Dr. Huffman’s comments are wholly inconsistent with our values and commitment to creating a tolerant and diverse workplace,” McHenry Lee, a spokesman for TeamHealth, said in a statement to The Washington Post. “TeamHealth has terminated Dr. Huffman’s employment.”

Rep. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland), the president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, who was present at the hearing, told the Dayton Daily News that Huffman’s word choice and question “highlights what racism is from a systematic perspective.”

“He’s a full legislator, but beyond that, professionally, he’s a doctor,” she said. “When we talk about the health disparities that happen because black folks aren’t believed when they’re actually hurt, they aren’t given the treatment that they need. Do you think that someone who acknowledges the ‘coloreds’ is going to give the love and care that people need when they come through those doors?”

In a phone interview with The Washington Post late Wednesday, Huffman defended himself, insisting that his language was not intended to be derogatory. Huffman added that he thought the phrases “people of color” and “colored population” were similar.

“People of color would have been better, but they seem to be interchangeable,” he said, before stressing repeatedly that the question had been rhetorical.

“I was trying to focus on why covid-19 affects people of color at a higher rate since we really do not know all the reasons,” he said.

An April Post analysis of early data from jurisdictions nationwide found that majority-black counties have three times the rate of coronavirus infections and almost six times the rate of deaths in comparison to counties made up of mostly white residents.

Earlier this month, The Post reported that African Americans, who are already negatively impacted by health disparities, were largely not prioritized as local governments nationwide scrambled to respond to the virus. Despite pleas from black leaders, a number of the first coronavirus testing sites appeared in whiter, more affluent areas, and educational campaigns about coronavirus prevention and social distancing targeting African American communities were rare, according to The Post.

On Tuesday, as Dawson advocated for racism to be declared a public health crisis in Ohio, she credited the pandemic for revealing underlying social inequities in the state. According to most recent figures, Ohio has more than 39,500 reported cases of coronavirus and at least 2,400 deaths.

“The covid-19 pandemic and the brutal death of George Floyd unfortunately provided a pivotal point in time to not only focus on our safety and physical health, but on our emotional, mental and spiritual health,” Dawson told members of the Ohio Senate Health, Human Services and Medicaid Committee. “We must prioritize the marginalized and those who are suffering, bearing the burden of disease, illness and death.”

When Huffman raised the question over whether personal hygiene could be a factor driving black infection rates, people attending the hearing visibly reacted, cringing while the lawmaker spoke, state Sen. Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati), a committee member, told the Daily News.

“He’s an example of why we have to have this discussion about racism and how it impacts people,” Thomas said.

Huffman’s words were met with similar responses on social media Wednesday.

State Rep. Erica Crawley (D-Columbus) accused Huffman of implying that black people are less hygienic or clean, tweeting, “This right here is the underlying implicit bias/covert racism that was in the question.”

State Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) urged people to vote.

Huffman strongly disputed the criticisms, telling The Post that his words had been “taken out of context.” He also pushed back against concerns raised by critics about his role as a practicing physician.

“Anybody that comes into any emergency room, I give them the very best care regardless of what race they are,” he said.

https://zdoggmd.com/undercover-nurse/

More on this Erin lady, who royally pisses me off.  I worked really hard for my nursing degree, and I have worked really hard in the years since I graduated. Just because someone can get through the coursework doesn't mean they're a good nurse.  How many women do you know who are shitty parents? Just because they were able to carry a pregnancy to full term doesn't make them patient or nurturing or other positive qualities of a loving parent.

Being interviewed by Tucker Carlson: https://video.foxnews.com/v/6163886572001?fbclid=IwAR3tDB-aqwBaXKH4XyPIGylZFtQxVcCokYdaSF1idcDGJQXoMYBSyOuGrsw#sp=show-clips

And the book she wrote about her experiences (because of course there's a book): https://www.amazon.com/Undercover-Epicenter-Nurse-Marie-Olszewski/dp/151076366X/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=undercover+nurse&qid=1592087160&sr=8-1

And ZDogg, being brilliant: https://zdoggmd.com/elmhurst-hospital/

So, following her Facebook posts, she was in NYC on April 22, waiting to find out where she'd be working. On May 21, a month later, she was escorted out of the hospital.  On June 11, less than a month later, she's on Tucker Carlson's show, holding up a book she wrote about her experiences. How did this all happen? She was working in NYC, where everything was closed except for essential businesses.  There's no way she could buy hidden camera equipment at Target or CVS, so she would have needed to bring that with her from home.  Why did she feel compelled to bring secret recording devices with her, if not to create a scandal? Then I looked up the publisher she worked with (https://www.skyhorsepublishing.com/submissions/). Their turnaround time is up to four to six weeks, so she probably submitted a book proposal before she even left for NYC. There's no way she could write a 256 page book exactly three weeks after leaving NYC, let alone having a finished book to display during her interview. And yet she's being lauded as a savior and a hero. She is truly awful.

A cannon of douche held up an American Airlines flight because he was being all fucksticky about their mask requirements.

Quote

American Airlines is banning the passenger who was kicked off a flight after refusing to wear a face covering as airlines step up enforcement of mandatory mask requirements.

Conservative activist Brandon Straka is the first passenger reported to be banned by a major U.S. airline after they doubled down on their mask policies this week following complaints that they were not being enforced.

A spokesperson for the airline explained that Straka will be banned from flying American for as long as its mask requirements are in place.

"American Airlines thoroughly reviewed an incident on June 17 involving one of our customers, Brandon Straka," the airline said in a statement. "As a result of this review, Mr. Straka will not be permitted to fly American, as he failed to comply with our stated policy and crewmember instructions."

They said he can fly with them again after the mask requirement is dropped. I had my way it would be a fucking lifetime ban.  Flying is stressful enough without assholes gumming up the works.

They said he can fly with them again after the mask requirement is dropped. I had my way it would be a fucking lifetime ban.  Flying is stressful enough without assholes gumming up the works.

The worst part about this, IMO, is that this guy probably thinks he's Rosa Parks.
