Dillards 83: WTG JILL - PUBLIC SCHOOL!!!

I have nothing negative to say about a parenting decision made by a Duggar for once!

Israel seems really proud and happy that he gets to go to Kindergarten, so kudos to the Dills for that.

Ma & Pa Duggar will NEVER let Jill around the other kids ever again...I'm happy for Israel, that he'll get to experience real school instead of SODRT. I wonder who made that decision though? Was it a mutual agreement? Jill didn't seem too fussed about registering Israel for school.

I'm inclined to believe it was a mutual decision and Jill's reaction to the whole thing is part of the reason why.  She does not look at all upset by this.

Maybe it’s just because I’m pregnant and hormonal but I teared up at this. Never did I think I’d see a real “free” Duggar. Obviously a long road ahead, but this is truly monumental. I know so many people that had very conservative, religious parents (think anti gay, constant prayer, etc) but they turned out fine because of the exposure to new people and ideas from their education. Israel might be ok guys ❤️

Did y'all notice that they definitely have 2 cars?  I think we've wondered about that sometimes when Jill seems bored/ stuck at home.

She posted not long ago that Derek puts gas in her car for her.

I know Anna & her husband are homeschooling, but are Jill’s kids the next oldest kids? It’d be incredible if  this changes the precedent and the second gen mostly sends their kids to real schools. I’m also impressed he’s going to a public school and not just a church school!

Jill took the kids and brought Derick meals in his first year of law school. I think they've had two cars since they came back from Danger America.

I feel like she must be pretty confident in her choice to not only do this but to make a YT video about it as well.

I thought the same. I’m genuinely proud of her for this. She seemed so at-ease in that video, too!

Side note: will this make JimBoob double down on the remaining daughters only getting to know other homeschooled boys? Because it’s looking like Jeremy will send his kids to school (although probably some pretentious private Christina school) and now we have Jill. A spouse with a real education background sees the flaws way too easily. A spouse who was also homeschooled is equally brainwashed. The ones who married a fellow homeschooler have no measure of their shortcomings or impetus to send a kid to school.

I'm not enterely surprised, but I thought it would happen later. It's a gooooood move. Even if Jill has more children, I doubt she will have a big family. Few siblings and a real school: it's the best one can hope for Izzy and Sam.

It's possible. But Johannah is only 14, so it is at least 4 years before courting. I know 4 years is nothing, but the older JimBob gets, it may be easier for the young girls to do their path. My fear is that Jessa and Anna, who are currently the main influence for the girls, will be picking their husbands (not directly, just introducing them to boys of their circles).

Ma & Pa Duggar will NEVER let Jill around the other kids ever again...

The MathBoys were never allowed to play with their cousins, the children of my fundy BIL/SIL, without continual supervision by one of their parents. The MathBoys attended preschool/ public school and had parents who encouraged their curiosity and failed to censor book choices (Harry Potter for the win!), so they might contaminate their perfect, hermetically-sealed children.

This decision may pose some painful circumstances for Jill and her family. She can’t not know it might happen. And yet, she agreed to send Izzy to school and give him a chance for broader intellectual stimulation than she was allowed. Good on you, Jill!

This is great. This is fucking great. I would so love to be privy to JB and Michelle’s heads exploding over this.

This isn’t on her instagram? I wonder why not. I hope it is dawning on her that they deserve a future with choices rather than selling cars, fixing up JB’s properties & performing in the family circus.

Jill has been showing videos of the boys playing with friends- maybe she realises socialisation is good for them. One thing is for sure - DD won’t want them going to the big house to be educated by Ben.

I’m excited about this, and what it could represent for their family.  In my fantasy world, once Sam starts school, so will Jill.

they actually all look very relaxed, happy and future orientated.  If you don't know who they are you would think simply  they are a young modern couple with children very average, very normal.  And that is quite nice to think about Jill Duggar, not fundy royalty but modern, average, normal, young.

@Themanda Duggar That was my first thought too. Izzy and Sam will go to school, and so might Jill.

That is the first time I saw one of their videos and was truly touched. Not only because Israel was very excited, but also because his parents (and Sam) were too. Jill made an extra effort to put Izzy in nice clothes and make him look dapper on his first day of school. They were there early (no Duggar time!) and played a game together to pass the time. It was genuinely sweet. I hope Israel will have a lot of fun at school and his school will encourage learning, creativity, and just broaden his horizons. I also hope that time at school for Israel means Jill can have some one-on-one time with Sam and maybe they'll even put him to pre-school so she can have a few hours of the day to herself. Even though she has "just two" kids, she seems like she'd really benefit from a break throughout the day.

I don't care much about the Duggars still at home or Jill's married siblings, but I hope that this decision will rub off on Sierra and Mark. Sierra is someone who always seems to give 300% up to the point of pure exhaustion, and I think public school for her oldest five would give her mental health a major break!

Agree with everyone who said Felicity (and possible siblings) will probably go to pre-school (ETA: I meant Kindergarten) too.

@Idlewild Even if it's SOTDRT, it is probably a lot better with Ben than it used to be when constantly pregnant Michelle or Jessa were in charge of the home education. After all, Ben seems like he'd be able to dive into a topic and teach it properly. I'm not making an excuse for lazy schooling, but he seems like someone who would get sth out of his students' successes and therefore approach his teaching efforts with more enthusiasm.

I guess I'm the only one who isn't really surprised by this at all. I felt the writing was on the wall that they wouldn't be home schooled after Halloween. I wouldn't have been surprised either if he'd started later or gone to Christian private school instead but all signs pointed to Derek not letting her do it- and frankly all signs pointed to her not wanting to do it too, though I imagine it took some work on her part to admit that to herself. It's very clear she's still struggling a lot of the time. I am sure his being out of the house several hours a day will in reality be a relief for her.

While many of their beliefs are doubtless as abhorrent as ever, I don't think there's really any coming back from this in a (very good) way. Derek and Jill will doubtless die conservative Christians who still sicken me with their beliefs but they're mainstream conservative Christians and their kids have a real chance. I am actually happy for all of them but especially their kids.

I agree that Ben is probably far more diligent a teacher than Michelle or Jessa. However his efforts will be constrained by the fact that he is in the Duggar house and serves at the will of JB. We’ve seen what happens to people who try a different route- they get cut off. Jessa and Ben cannot afford to upset the brand unless their YouTube is very successful. So those children will be learning about Jesus riding around on a dinosaur or whatever.

i noted on Jessas Instagram she says Ivy has the family love of books. That’s a new one- unless she’s talking about the Seewald family. This subtle editing of their life continues....

I'm pleased for Izzy and Sam but also for Jill, she may decide to get a proper education herself. While Derick and Jill still have horrible beliefs, the fact they made a decision to allow their sons to have a normal education will benefit them greatly. I hope others follow suit, though I doubt it.
