Bates 23: Waiting on the Next Wedding

The song she walked down to is used in Twilight. A Thousand Years is the song Bella walks down to marry Edward so you are 100% right there.  Do you suppose Tori Lynn Bates Smith is really a closeted Twilight reader/watcher? Vampires? Werewolves? I am aghast.

I'm not saying she read the books, only someone definitely drew some inspiration from the movie scene.

Nearly identical hair (side braid, curls/tendrils, messy low bun) .....check

Exact same entrance song.....check

Slim, long-sleeved dress and similar veil....check

Purple attendants or guest dresses....check

Magical woodland theme....check

They were just missing a sparkly groom and a few werewolves.

1) I really hated the trees. It was a nice concept but the execution was horrible. It blocked the aisles and some of the bridesmaids were wacked in the face by them. 

2) I still hate her dress. The pure white lace with the dark champagne underlay was not visually appealing to me. 

3) Tori's indifference was borderline bridezilla. 

4) Kelly asking Michael at the door way to fix the younger girls dresses was ridiculous. LET YOUR DAUGHTER WALK IN THRU THE DOOR FIRST!!!

5) Ok I'm not trying to say anything bad but Tori looked pregnant in the interviews. IDK if it's the way she was sitting but at one point she was sitting with Erin and they both had the same look. I'm willing to bet there's an announcement any day now.

6) I'm not Christian so can someone explain the unity stuff? Why does every wedding need candles, sand, braids? Don't the vows technically mean unity? It just looks awkward.

I don't say she's not pregnant, becouse i really have no idea, but according to one od Lawson's IG storys from last night, i think she is not. Or only in early pregnancy. They did live chat from i think Whitney and Zach house and in one of the videos you can see Tori passing by, and really not looking pregnat at all. Or she is carrying small like Alyssa.

6.) I have never gotten the whole unity thing either. Kind of thought your vows took care of that. I didn't know that unity ceremonies were a Christian thing. I had thought I had seen candle lighting and sand ceremonies in civil ceremonies as well. 

I also don't like the light purple of the bridesmaid dresses. A deep purple would have been much more festive. Ivory and gold would have complimented the champagne overlay better than ivory and silver.

I hate that I know this but- Bella and Edward did wait until marriage! And forgo contraception, getting pregnant on the honeymoon. Perfect role models, really.

It's so odd to me that Alyssa has not been any sister's MOH nor did she choose one of her sisters to be hers. And Chad and Evan were in the wedding, but not John. They're all from Florida, right?  Did any younger siblings (other than Josie) cry upon her departure from the Bates home? Was she especially close to any of her brothers?

Alyssa really must have just hated being part of that family, man.

There are so many things I don’t get about Protestant/Evangelical Christian culture in the USA. 

The cultures differ in European countries as well, but I was always able to grasp things. In the USA not so much. It is like a totally different kind of Christianity, like Mormons. The more conservative it gets the stranger it gets. Purity culture and balls, unity candles, staging religious ceremonies like circus shows (that is my take from it), how much power your „home church“ rules have on your life, that pastors are still seen as people of big influence, mixing religion and politics... And I am not even talking about crazy cult people here like Gothardites or Quiverfull believers.

This forum has opened my eyes to a lot of things and issues but it also showed me just HOW different the USA can be from what I have experienced in all over Europe.

Thanks for the pics. It is definitely very similar. I actually wouldn’t put is past the older Bates‘ girls to at least know parts of the movie. 

While think Tori was the most beautiful bride (because I really like her looks) and if I had to choose I would pick her (or Alyssa’s) wedding I am not the biggest fan of how it turned out. Love the general idea though.

Dress: a tad not well fitted enough, the lace clashed with the champagne underlay. 

Deco: different take on the Christmas theme but white and purple screams early 2000 to me. Those white fake(?) Christmas trees are the height of tackiness in my eyes.

@Nikedagain? Tori and Bobby probably never got the chance to befriend John (and Brandon, the only other in-law/SO not involved in the wedding) in the same way they have Whit and Chad (who both still live in East TN). Kelton is truly Bobby's best friend from college, and maybe Bobby and Evan bonded through Tori and Carlin's friendship. 

@TeaELSee My money for Josie's MOH is on Katie. Alyssa didn't even have Josie in her wedding, just Whit, Michael, Erin, and Tori. Addie and Ellie were flower girls.

I mentioned this on a previous thread, but I noticed that Tori was the most inclusive of all of her siblings in the wedding party, Zach, Chad, Lawson, Nathan, Trace, Evan, and Kelton were all groomsmen; Whit, Michael, Erin, Alyssa, Carlin, Josie, and Katie (and one of Bobby's sisters) were all bridesmaids. Jackson, Warden, and Isaiah were all ushers; Callie was the flower girl and Jud and Jeb were ring bearers. No parts for Addie, Ellie, and Bobby's youngest sister, though.

I would be really surprised if Josie didn't have a Carlin-Katie combination for MOHs.  Josie does shout outs for Katie on her IG all the time. I think they're very close.

Yeah, I'd be VERY surprised if Josie didn't have Katie as her maid of honor. But she might do the same thing Tori did and have a matron of honor as well, which I could see Alyssa being.

I don’t think she hates her family. I just think she’s not all that much like them. I’m that way in my family. I love my family but I feel like I’m pretty different. Not in bad ways either. So I can’t really be called the black sheep. I’m more of a gray sheep. I also live furthest away from my family and hometown while my siblings still live there. It’s my choice to live away from them. I’m guessing Alyssa is glad she lives away from them. She may need the space in order to appreciate them more.

The unity candle/ sand/ braid whatever is supposed to represent two families becoming one. So the vows are to bind the partners in a legal union and the unity ceremony is showing that the Bates family and the Smith Family are bonded through this union. 

This has some historical roots in two different family units creating relationships, either financial or other forms of promised support, through marriage. 

The braid is from Ecclesiastes, and can either symbolize Tori, Bobby,(outer strings) and God (as the middle string) or the Bates clan and Smith clan as the outer strings, and God as the middle string binding the two families together.   

My older brother will be getting married soon and has 2 kids from a former relationship and my soon to be SIL has 1 kiddo previously too, they plan on doing unity sand and having 3 little jars with different colors for each kid to symbolize the blending of the family. 

For my own wedding we will have my parents and my fiance's parents come say a quick prayer over us together to show our families unity, because my siblings and SIL's have told me they cant find their sand, braid, etc. or the candle melted in the attic 

 

TLDR: Spawned from history about sharing property, support, and shit from two different families. Also can have various religious meanings.

This picture has caused some speculation on instagram. But I honestly can’t blame people. The Bates girls seem to start dating earlier and earlier. And Logan does spend a ton of time with the Bates family. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did start dating.

@JermajestyDuggar I checked his Instagram and it looks like he has a girlfriend although the last photo of her was dated Dec 2017. Katie follows the current or ex GF on IG. It seems complicated if they really are courting lol.

Somebody asked if that guy was Katie’s boyfriend and Katie said “no he is not my boyfriend” although if they’re special friends, it could just be that.

I don’t think there is any indication that they are currently dating but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did in the future. Although Katie seems to be taking a class at Crown, she probably doesn’t have a ton of interactions with unmarried guys her age. That’s why it wouldn’t surprise me if they started dating at some point.
