WTF!

"*For readers who have asked about sending gift cards to the Seewalds, Jessa told us that her favorite stores are Target and Walmart. Letters and gifts can be sent to PO Box 1000 Tontitown, AR 72770 (USPS) or 548 Arbor Acres Ave, Springdale, AR 72762 (FedEx/UPS)."

The shameless grifting is appalling.

Gift cards my ass. That's flat out grifting, not a destitute family in need. Ben needs to get off his ass and his head out of JB's ass and get a real job.

But, up until today, we didn't know for certain that Ben was really working for JB.

I don't recall from that 'article', but I don't think it said Ben is working full time for JB.

I think a lot of us have distrust because the Duggars have a history of saying something that just isn't quite the truth. Jana is a concert Pianist, JD is a cop, etc.

So when we see Jessa, or the PR person who wrote that for Jessa say "Ben is working in real estate with my dad". It causes us to wonder what that actually means. Is he cleaning the toilets out of the rental properties? Or is he learning the real estate business?

Does he just go in for a few hours here and there? It is like when JB has a professional tradesmen show the kids a few things about laying carpet; that doesn't make them flooring specialists.

Hopefully JB is taking the time to develop Ben's understanding of the real estate and property management business. Property management can have it's fair share of dirty work, so learning some basic plumbing, cleaning and fixer upper skills would suit him well. Additionally, I hope that JB is teaching him the business side, assuming of course that JB runs his real estate business on the the up and up.

But as long as Ben and Jessa rely on JB for income or housing, there will be no branching out from the family values. There will be no independence. It is a life of modified indentured servitude.

Do I think they are comfortable? yes, Do I think they are wanting for creature comforts? No. I think they are living day to day a comfortable life with all their 'needs' and many of their 'wants' met. Do I think this will last forever? I guess that depends on if they manage to keep JB and Michelle happy.

Sorry to double post, but honestly, Since it is obvious that ben and jessa are not in need of charity, Why don't they do the Christian thing and encourage their fans to donate money or gifts that they would have sent to them, to a shelter, or to a children's charity?

Jessa likely doesn't need her fans to send her Target and Walmart gift cards. But she could really lead by example, and have said "I appreciate so many of you being interested in sending a baby gift, but it would mean so much more to us if you would make a donation to XYZ. We are blessed with having the ability to provide what we need for our precious little one, so please share your generosity with those who have a true need."

It's kind of fascinating on some level. It really shows how they were raised and what they were actually taught to value. I know we were just talking about Derick and Jill posing for pictures giving free donuts to homeless people. It's like they have no idea how obnoxious and arrogant this stuff makes them look, not to mention incredibly hypocritical. It never ceases to amaze me how supposed 'Biblical literalists' can just magically forget major parts of the Bible, and this is no exception. Stop trying to convert everyone for a hot second and read the words of Jesus (you know, the guy you claim to worship above all else?):

Matthew 6:2-4: "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Umm... do you really want to put your home address out for the entire world to see? Maybe that is just my pet peeve.

As far as the gift cards, this must be a shameless plug for loot .... in lieu of a real baby shower given by people you actually know and love?

I googled the address (of course) and found an interesting website that lists info regarding their various properties and in whose names they are listed. I hope I am posting this right.

That's the address of the main compound. They have a security gate and everyone already knows where it is anyway, so I guess they don't care. They've seemed bizarrely lax about security in the past, though. I never understood why they were okay with showing the front of their houses on TV. If I were Derick and Jill I probably would have left the country after the first scandal hit, too. I'd be lying awake worried about psychos or tabloid journalists snooping around my house.

of course Jessa is being talkative - she wants PRESENTS

she wants everyone to drop some trough towards her regardless of the fact that the show is over

it makes me laugh

as for Ben working for her father - I guarantee you he is cleaning and mowing lawns - I doubt he is selling the houses :D

I don't have an issue with Ben working for Jim Bob. Real estate can be a lucrative career- if, in fact, that's what he's doing (and not just cleaning toilets). If he's actually learning the ins and outs of buying, refurbishing, and selling property, it seems like it would be a smart idea. I also don't have a problem with family businesses though.

Then again, this is the Duggars we're talking about, and what they say rarely seems to be the whole truth.

I was JUST about to post about that, too. I am SURE Jessa's favorite stores are those two and that she would LOVE for people to send her free $$$. I don't even want to know how many gullible leghumpers are sending her gift cards to that PO Box. I have to say she's playing the grifting game well...not very subtly, but well. It seems to be working for them. So gotta give her that.

ETA: "We try to do as much of the work as we can ourselves, as there are a whole variety of different skills right within the family. For instance, Jinger, Joe, and Joy make a dynamic tile-laying team; Jana has a particularly good eye for interior design; Josiah and I have helped my dad with the business bookkeeping and accounting; John is skilled in operating heavy equipment; several have gotten their Commercial Drivers License (CDL) so they can drive big rigs like the dump truck and rollback; and many of my siblings have learned framing, siding, roofing, as well as how to deal with plumbing and electrical issues. Then of course, when the grass is growing, there is lots of lawn care to be done, as well!"

Leave it up to Scrooge McBoob to let his kiddos do all the renovating work of the fixer uppers he acquires. Good business strategy, yes. But I hope the kids get compensated.

I will believe those kids are doing professional-quality tile-laying and interior design when I f*cking see it. Please. This is just one more way for JB and Of'JB to pretend they have raised a quiver of righteous Christian warriors. When have they done more than the most perfunctory of construction tasks? They didn't even decorate the TTH themselves.

Oh, and Ben? Yeah, you can argue all you want that he is "gainfully employed" by JB, now that he is married. He is doing the same crap he was when he was living in their garage apartment (whatever the hell that was). Ben got married at 19 - let's talk about his extensive and varied work history. He may have an AA, but he spends his time on social media, posting Bible quotes, and making duck faces with his spoiled wife. They are going to grift the hell out of this baby (and the next), and it would not surprise me to find they are primarily living off of gift returns and gift cards for the next 2 years.

Why are FJ commenters taking these criticisms personally? Unless you, yourself, are sponging off of your family for doing shoddy construction and soaking up the accolades for remembering to rinse your dinner plate like a pre-schooler, what is your beef? Ben and Jessa are well-dressed losers.

Do you think Ben and Jessa will be sending thank you cards to all of the leg humpers? Maybe I will send a $5 gift card to find out. Ha!

Wow, who here is taking any of this personally? You're like ten times more vehement and impassioned and personally offended than anyone else in this thread, haha.

That's rich, Sing Sing. I wasn't specifically talking about you, but it took you about 2 minutes to jump on in here. And you ignored, like, 2 whole paragraphs before that .... ;)

New here... but isn't anyone intrigued by the multiple owners of the same property? Seems odd.

Jessa and Ben seem immature, self-absorbed, and greedy. They have plenty of money and they are asking people for gift cards! What happened to "buy used and save the difference"?

It would be darkly comical to send them a charity gift card from the ASPCA signed from the cat Ben purposely hit with a sled while Jessa laughed. It could say something like, "Every life matters. Let's hope you teach your child the empathy you lacked. From your cat." :wink-kitty:

I wonder how long it is going to take other places to find this gem. The comments will be glorious, and full of all kinds of crazy.

They've had episodes chronicling their real estate business- fixed up Grandma's house for J&A, Jill's mansion, the numerous car lots, the Taco joint almost turned car lot, etc.

Renovating is hard labor. We just fixed up a house this summer and I do not envy anyone doing that long term, especially with someone like Boob as a manager.

I think it's weird that the Duggars and their in-laws will take all kinds of photos and post them online, celebrating their grifting ideals, but they never post anything about getting or keeping jobs.

Re-quoting myself here just to say, boy, that was quick. :o I can't take credit for the speed that the Seewalds' rebuttal post went up, since we've all clearly been asking about their employment (or lack of) for some time, but I do think it's crazy to see them finally put something up about it.

OMG, Jessa actually wrote a post explaining what it is her family of grifters does for a living! How long have I been saying that Jessa especially reads here? Told y'all so!

But, umm...5th generation? Even for a graduate of the SOTDT, not knowing what "generation" means is bad.

I don't think it quite works that way exactly. I mean, what Josh did (seeking out extramarial partners) is kind of the ultimate in conquests and sexual expression... meaning, to him he was so sexual one wife wasn't even enough for him (IN THEIR THOUGHTS, not mine!!!!!). There aren't too many people praising Josh's cheating. Even fundies that I've seen, tho correct me if I'm wrong. Have there been fundies condemning the women he cheated with? Saying they were too tempting? Or has it all been on him for seeking it out?

in the first paragraph which you bolded, I was talking about non-fundie culture, sorry if I didn't make that clear. [emoji28]

in fundiedom, patriarchy works a bit differently, at least from what I observed. instead of girls being shamed for being sexual beings, their sexuality is outright denied, or is seen as sinful and dirty. boys are thought of in the same general light (as in sexual desires outside of marriage are sins and can be prayed away), however their sexual urges are seen as a normal and unavoidable. IMO this is most clearly illustrated in the fact that both Jill and Jessa brushed their abuse off as "mild inappropriate touching" and "teen hormones".

I think the reason why Josh is being shunned by his family is because there's some deception at play. After going to construction camp and praying a lot, the family assumed that Josh found Jesus again blah blah blah and then he got a job at Family Research Council or whatever the fuck it's called and his righteousness was restored, hail Jesus praise Him blah blah blah, then the Ashley Madison hack. The family probably feels really deceived because according to them, sin is only forgiven if you stop sinning. Also because Josh did hurt Anna and his children and that sucks.

Also also I think deep down the fundies are judging the women who had been on AM, but because the women are "worldly", they might not be focusing on condemning them, or something. Anyways, fundie logic gives me a headache.
