Luckily I started enjoying sports as an adult and the funny thing is that now most people would describe me as a sporty person: I love walking, cycling, and I love love love activities like Zumba or Jazzercise 😍... but it was definitely not thanks to the PE teachers I have had.

Oh me too! When I was younger I HATED exercising, because in my country PE means running, group thing like basketball, soccer, volley etc which I suck in. I do ride bike at home but being a kid, riding around the neighborhood with your siblings doesn't feel like exercise so in my head it doesn't count.

I started going to the gym by the end of 2016 under the suggestions of my orthopedic doctor and my shrink (for unrelated issues, but given around the same time). Turned out I like doing things like boxing, muay thai, and lifting weights. Now I'm a gym rat, going to the gym 5 times/week, 2 hours/day. The pandemic put a stop to it, but I've been back to the same routine for the past year and it feels so good. I exercise with my mask on because I'm paranoid, I'm the only one doing it at my gym so sometimes I received weird comments about it.

Speaking of mask, I really don't get these people. Even before the pandemic, in my family if we're sick, we wear mask if we'll be in the same room with my nibblings. Washing hands is a must if we're about to handle the kids, but definitely no touching and nowhere near the kids if we're sick. I know these fundies DGAF about the pandemic, but with a lot of babies all the dang time aren't they supposed to take a better care when it comes to things like that?

Devenn who is married to Travis’s brother (Mike) has a sister named Jai. I noticed her sister didn’t have a no touch courtship. She’s engaged and there are pictures of them touching. I think Katie and Devenn will eventually see his stupid a no touch courtship is. I think they were so young and just went along with the Clark rules. But now that they are married to Clarks and they probably feel safer, they will break Clark rules.

  • 2 weeks later...

Remi had another litter in this week's video. It was only 4 this time. How often is it okay to breed a dog? Can they be overbred?

😆 Pretty sure a Bates would not be the best person determine how often something should be bred, LOL!

They were off another trip this week. How did they have time to watch Remi with all the constant running around?

I’m sure a family member helped. They seem to be a big family of doodle breeders. I wish I had a full count of how many doodles have been put into the breeding world by just the Clark family. Which means lots of other dogs never found homes.

The thought of using the family pet as just another income stream is so foreign to me. Do they think they are adding benefit to Remi’s life by letting her get impregnated, give birth and care for her litters of puppies? Or is it just about the money?

I’m sure they tell themselves they are giving other families happiness with their amazing doodles. But there are plenty of other doodles in this world that would also make great family pets. I’m sure they don’t think beyond themselves. Fundies are really good at that.

They definitely can be overbred, which is why if you are dead set on getting a pure bred dog it is so important to get your dog from an accredited ETHICAL breeder.

My parents have a Dutch Patridge dog (which is a national breed). They recently had puppies with their dog. There were a lot of check ups on their home and who they were even before the dog was pregnant, then a lot of check ups on the dog to see if she was healthy, old enough, and well taken care off, all before they were cleared by the national association of that specific breed and they could breed their dog.
Then there were multiple check ups when the puppies were born, to make sure they weren't being kept in a leaking shed or basement (this was checked before the breeding took place as well. My parents had to show them where and how they intended to keep the mother dog and her puppies), that the puppies all received vaccinations at 5 weeks, and that their overall health was good. My parents had the mother dog and her puppies in their living room, so that they could supervise at all times and to make sure that the puppies were properly socialized at home.

This association advises to not breed before the intended mother dog is three years old, to not breed when they are over 9 years old, to not breed a female who's over the age of 6 and has never been bred before, and to have a maximum of three litters per dog. (They can't force people to comply with these rules, but they won't give out any pedigrees to breeders who don't comply with these rules, which means those breeders can't sell their dogs through the associations and can't sell them as purebreds).

I'm personally very much in favor of very strict rules regarding the breeding of pets. And I also think people who want a pet should do a shit ton of research before getting a pet. That way a lot less pets would end up in shelters, there would be less animal abuse (I believe backyard breeding for money without concern for the wellbeing of the animal is animal abuse), and there would be a lot less backyard breeders.

Female dogs should be old enough to be screened for health issues - at least 1.5-2 years old but 3 is better.  Max of 3 litters per female and then spay when done for other health considerations.

If an offspring comes back with any heritable condition, the parent dogs should be removed from the breeding program completely or not paired together again, depending on what the issue is. Getting a well-bred dog is pretty expensive because all the screening is pricey.  Those breeders are doing it for love of the breed, not to make money.  And adopting dogs is great, but it is worth remembering that the purebreds there are probably not well-bred, they came from puppy mills most of the time so they will have their health issues that are not selected against.  Doesn't make them not great pets, but all those extra dogs produced have to go somewhere.

I had an adult Smooth Collie rehome from a legitimate kennel. She was a Grand Champion who belong to a woman who went into assisted living. Lody went back to her breeder, who bred her once. Lody took a while to accept her puppies, and had to be muzzled until she did so. This was, of course, unacceptable to the breeder, since she didn't want that lack of maternal instinct in her line. A mutual friend who knew that I had a Smooth Collie in the past told me about Lody, and the breeder gave her to me with the understanding I would spay her, which I did. She had a lovely disposition as well as being a beautiful dog.

These globetrotters are heading to Aruba with Trav's family today. I mean, these people. All of them. Do they just pray money into existence??

Thanks for the laugh. 😂 also, I don’t quite understand doing a hot destination  beach vacation in the summertime. But also, I live in Canada where people take these types of vacations to escape our winter, so maybe that’s more normal in the US, haha

Yeah heading to Aruba in August seems odd. It's weird to go there when the weather is perfectly fine and warm. I'm from Canada too and Cuba, Cancun, Dominican Republic, etc., mainly evoke winter destinations. I mean, I know! The one time I went into the Caribbeans, it was in December. ;)

It is hot and humid, but it much cheaper and much less crowded (speaking as someone who just returned from a family visit to Key Largo-- we just couldn't get together in winter because of school schedules, etc)

I mean I am in Canada and I know people who went to Aruba in August and people who are in Mexico right now. It is cheaper plus school is out.

Really? Maybe it’s just where I live, then! One coworker went to Florida in the summer, and everyone seemed to think it was odd (not in a judgemental way, just a “hmm haven’t heard of people going on hot beach vacations in the summer”). Our winters here are COLD and LONG (longer than a lot of other places in Canada). So it’s super common to do hot beach vacations on March break, over Christmas, reading week for university students, etc. Many people go yearly too. And lots of older folks who are snow birds and go to the southern US or Mexico every winter for several weeks/months from here. But totally can see summer being cheaper and easier with kids in school.

Katie is getting some flack in the comments of her recent Instagram reel of Hailey in a two piece by the pool.

Usually I’d disagree with the whole dressing modestly thing but in this case I actually agree with some of the humpers comments. Hailey looks adorable but no way I’d be posting my daughter in a two piece like that for the world to see, you never know who’s looking (and given what Josh Duggar has recently been convicted of, you’d think this would be fresh in Katie’s mind!). Gotta get those likes and follows though hey 😞

On Evan and Carlin’s recent vacation, they had Layla in multiple different cutesy bikinis too. It’s interesting given their beliefs. And as a mom of a baby, I feel like more coverage is easier because less areas you need to struggle to apply sunscreen on too, lol

I don’t care about how the bikini looks on a baby. It’s more about coverage. Baby skin is sensitive. Just cover it up so you need less sunscreen and less likely to burn those parts. I said the same thing on Carlin’s thread.

But I will point out that I don’t like the double standard of putting a baby in a bikini and then nor allowing that same child to wear a bikini at 15 because she’s developed boobs and a butt. It’s not fair to punish a kid for going through puberty. I think puberty is punishment enough 😂

Maybe. I’m just outside Toronto, so our winters are pretty tame by Canadian standards. I mean, I know people who travel in the winter but honestly most people seem to avoid travelling in Jan/Feb since that is when you are most likely to be messed up by snow storms. I know I planned our Disney trip in November for that reason (and still got hit by a blizzard). April is a super common month to travel south for some reason.

I used to be surprised by people travelling South in the summer but then it started happening more and more often. As I said, I know 3 separate couples who just came back from Mexico.

On the topic of bikinis on babies. I always put my kids in two pieces because it was way easier for diaper changes but I used the long sleeved Sun shirts on top.

Josie posted some stories fro:their Arizona trip and Willow is wearing a two piece with a t-shirt top that is much more appropriate and offers great sun coverage.

It looks like it was a nice trip to Aruba. I realize Travis' father is a bit of a nightmare but he does seem to be crazy about that baby.
