My kids all had bowling in gym class 🤣, and this was from 2010-2020.

I actually like PE classes that introduce kids to various sports.

@HereticHick My kids liked it because they got to leave school for a little while. 🤣

I wish PE focused on more normal ways to move your body besides football/gymnastics/volleyball/etc. Like walking, yoga, cycling, hiking- all those types of things that non-sports playing people can do to feel good in their bodies. I bet a lot of kids would dread gym so much less if they could choose activities that sound like fun and feel good to them. I graduated in the early 90's and loathed gym. I was never ever good at team sports, running hurt my ankles but we had to do it anyway, and I swore id never exercise again when I finally graduated. It turned me off of exercise.

I love that my area high school has a bowling team. There are kids on it that may not be athletically gifted in the sense that they may not be fast runners or lift 200lbs. But they can feel a sense of accomplishment at getting better and better at bowling and of course make new friends.

My high school PE class required learning about games/sports, including written tests on the rules. We also had to play them, but weren't graded on our abilities, just that we understood how the game was played. One of the games we had to learn was pickleball. This was probably 2002-2003, and I had never heard of pickleball. Now that it's everywhere, I can tell people I knew pickleball before it was cool.

In my high school they had summer PE, which was just group hiking and biking around our area. I did it the summer before my freshman year, and it was how I met half my high school friends. And then I didn’t have to do PE during the school year!

I remember learning square dancing in jr high gym class. It was so awkward. But it was kind of fun too.

When I was little my best friend and her family did square dancing. With the amazing dresses with all the petticoats. I was SO jealous. The parents were from Oklahoma and everything about them seemed so exotic and cool to a California hippie kid.

She did a "baby princess having a spa day" video. A bathrobe on the baby, crochet flip flops, cucumbers over the eyes. Yuck. 🤢

I just look at it and say, “first baby syndrome.” First babies are so different from the rest. I’m sure she won’t be doing all this for the next two kids. Yes, even I did way more with my first than my second. My first was always in a clean and matching outfit. Every single day. My second baby lived in zip up sleepers. Like he would just wear them all day long. 🤷🏻‍♀️

eye roll but i cant bag her out to much I did a fashion shoot in full costume and props everyday straight for at least three months of my maternity leave with my little one. I spammed the hell out of my baby and I regret nothing.  I have so many adorable and OTT photos to look back on and make me smile. I can guarantee if I had a second one, there is no way I would have the time or luxury to do that all again lol

Oh, no beef with the dressing up fun part. My beef is that it's sooo... girly? Princessy? Like if this kid is four and wants to buy a cape and sword or pirate costume I seriously doubt that would ever happen. Just like Alissa's ridiculous newborn baseball photo shoot just because she birthed a male.

too true I had super girly for my babe and then stuck her in a pot and made her a mandrake and then had her as a baby jedi battling it out... I did mix it up

Then my girl grew up and lived in spiderman boys clothes exclusivley for about 4 years

Lucky! Every year from grade 3 onward was the same; jogging, volleyball, basketball occasionally hand ball. No gymnastics, square dancing, yoga etc. In high school, we got weighed, they pinch tested us for fat and did the stupid beep test for running. Hated PE!

I’m not going to lie; I might just do a spa day with my kids. I think they’d both think it’s fun, and I am running out of ideas of entertaining them during the day when it’s too hot to go outside.

Although I can’t imagine being a “content creator” and having to think up new ideas all the time to engage my followers.

I just hope Bill and Jane were spared any illnesses. RSV is no joke with the elderly.

(and looking back, a lot of my aversion came from social anxiety because of the awful way the PE teachers "taught" and bullied the non-sporty people

Oh, I can relate! In middle school I was the one who was last chosen when playing volleyball because everyone else already knew each other and/or took volleyball lessons together. I used to be a sensitive little girl and have never felt like taking these lessons because of the harsh ways trainers/teachers had with kids, so once in middle school, I definitely was not as good as the other kids and did not enjoy the games.

At one point we started doing athletics and the teacher actually enrolled me in high jump competitions without even asking me, just because I was tall and slim (I would have enjoyed long jump or fast running much more, but she didn't even bother to ask me) and that was hell: I had trainings once a week and I still vividly remember when she told me I was "less than zero" just because one day I kept missing a certain height. I felt so ashamed that only recently (so approximately 25 years later) I felt like telling my mom about that, and I wish I had done it back then, but I was so convinced it was my fault that I did not even question that maybe it was that teacher who was just being an a$$ to me.

Luckily I started enjoying sports as an adult and the funny thing is that now most people would describe me as a sporty person: I love walking, cycling, and I love love love activities like Zumba or Jazzercise 😍... but it was definitely not thanks to the PE teachers I have had.

Maybe. Rhett tested positive for RSV but I guess others could have some other virus.

I hate these winds. They are absolutely HOWLING here in SoCal. Not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight because I'm so afraid we'll get sudden evacuation orders the way we did with the Woolsey fire in 2018. There's no way of knowing when and where a fire might crop up and once it does, there's no containing it in these winds. I'm praying for the safety of our brave firefighters. My heart is with everyone in the Pacific Palisades and in Eaton Canyon near Pasadena.

The world doesn't need more people. If people want to have children, that's fine, but there is no reason we have to keep having more people.

      Winter snack: crispy chickpeas
Preheat oven to 400 F. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas, then toss in olive oil and whatever spices you like. I use fried chili crisp. Cook for 15 minutes, stir, another 15 minutes, stir, repeat until they're crispy and delicious. Good as a snack, on salads, etc.
I am sharing my super secret chili crisp source just because I love you guys:

Happy New Year, all you amazing people! I just saw a (possibly joking) tradition online called Yule Boasting.

      My quick text version:
i will begin 2025 by distilling a barrel full of tequila from the agave plants in my yard, assisted by george clooney, who admires me greatly and will be sad and heartbroken when my plan moves ahead without further human assistance.
sky-clad, i will find my familiar, a malevolently clever curve-billed thrasher named Willie Wildman. together we will roam my neighborhood, putting together an animal army consisting of a coyote pack, a squadron of javelinas, and my local great horned owl pair, perseverance and ingenuity.
we will all consume mass quantities of tequila, paint our faces blue, and set out on yucca broomsticks to reach our nation's capitol.
we will swoop down on DC, screaming and howling, occupying first the capitol and then the white house, where we will become co-presidents and replace congress with the yacht-sinking orcas of the mediterranean. AND EVERYONE WILL FUCKING REJOICE.
