List of Unmarried Fundies

Emily's severe bangs freak me right out, and Anna, the blonde married one, always looks kind of stunned in the pictures.

They seem like a nice enough family, but a) so much for that 200 year plan with all those unmarried SAHDs, and b) they spent a ton of time and effort on a bake sale for a Confederate war memorial, which seems unChristian, somehow.

It seems like they were originally non-fundie. The parents were married in 1969, but their eldest was an infant/toddler in 1976. The girl's clothes in the 1981 picture are decidedly unfundie. I wonder what happened.

ETA: I just realized, they have the same numbers as my mom's family: 7 girls and 2 boys, and the same last name - the order of boys and girls is different, though. Weird.

They're not discussed here, but I know a family in the US who is quite 'into' Vision Forum, and they have two daughters ages 26 and 24, both still unmarried (one of them had a courtship when she was about 21, but it was broken off). To be honest, I'm not so sure the older one wants to be married (even though they both say they do). She is very opinionated and headstrong for a young fundamentalist woman. The younger one, on the other hand, is the most submissive, naive person I have ever met. I really worry about her marrying an asshole sometimes. :(

On a side note, the two boys in the family are the perfect ages for Anna and Mary Maxwell, and the youngest girl for Joseph or John...

This family is just dorky and sheltered enough for the Maxwells. I doubt they are as crazy, but then, who is? If they haven't met yet, they really should.

I had a friend who just deleted me off of fb finally (I'm pretty liberal and vocal and vulgar...) but I knew her for a good decade because she sold cloth diapers from home and I used them for my kids. ANYWAY, she is the only child of aging parents, reformed Christian, SAHD, and she is about 35 now, if not older. She was super fundie but finally has started going on some dates, she tried online dating but it was disastrous. It's really sad because she desperately loves children. Her upbringing really isolated and crippled her :(

Well, since NR Anna appears to know daughter Emily, she should drop a few hints.

I don't know if anyone follows their blog, but Sarah and Leah Pelc from As Lilies Sewing blog are 27 and 24 and no courtship on the horizon yet. Their brother (30-31) is married, though and has two daughters.

Also, Mia from "Aspiring Homemaker" (sadly, no longer blogging) and her sister are now in their mid-twenties.

Ah, and then there's Lacy Self from A Country Girl (formerly, "A Godly Maiden"), who now has gone fundie-lite, I think. She's deleted her blog but is on Facebook.

I've been reading As Lilies for years. In some ways, the family seems even more isolated than the Maxwells (though much happier and less judgmental). Sarah and Leah don't seem to have any local friends, other than that family with 3-4 young kids, and they don't travel as much as the Maxwells do. I don't even know what "kind" of fundie they are--they never seem to go to conferences or other gatherings of fundies.

The Pelc sisters are probably the only fundies I'd say I really root for. They are unassuming, appreciate their readers, and seem very kindhearted.

Anyone bring up Lydia Jeub? Not to mention she goes to a real, accredited university so I'm not sure if she is DQ'd for getting a real education.

As much as I think Chris is a douchecanoe, at least the daughters have college as an option in their family.

I don't know if anyone follows the 11smiths (.blogspot.com) 8 children, ages 20 & up, and only 1 is married.

Wow, is this right? The married daughter got married October of 2010 and their first baby was born July 2011? Can anyone say fertile? She had to have gotten pregnant like a second after they got married.

My feelings exactly. They seem genuinely content with their life as it is. The fact that there have only ever been 3 children in that family certainly helps, you know, what with not having to fight for every morsel of food or sharing bunk beds and all that. But I also think that they are probably the most secluded of all the SATHDs I know. I don't remember ever seeing any pictures of them with other girls their age. Since their brother got married they've been able to socialise with their sister-in-law, but other than that it's always the two of them and their mother. They used to organise weekly meetings with a group of younger girls, like a fundie version of girlscouts, and they really seemed to enjoy that, but I don't think they do anymore, not sure why.

Don't know if anyone's commented on this yet, but Kelly Crawford has a new post on her blog on this very topic. The answer to "Have Christians declared war on marriage?" Why, narcissistic, self-indulgent parenting!! :o :o :o

I wonder if Steve Maxwell and Geoff Botkin ever read Kelly's blog??

Kelly is a colossal bitch. They are not well liked, especially after the comment that the April 27, 2011 tornadoes were a blessing. Hundreds of people in Alabama died that day, and she didn't care. I'm sorry she lost her home, truly. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

You said it. Bria is 19, shouldn't she be courting by now?

It seems that now their thinking has shifted to marry as young as possible because you are most fertile and you will have your army for God. Look at Alyssa Bates, Martha Morton, Whitney.....They are all so young to be planning to get married with no way to back out. Although they have set it up where they need their adult daughters to work in the home so early marriage causes them to lose their indentured servants.

Ugh, I wish for a world where these women were doing SOMETHING they wanted, not something they have been brainwashed into thinking is for them.

Addie's latest post was very hyper and about a Zac that's hung around the family for quite awhile. Something brewing maybe?

Zach looks very young(if I'm looking at the right guy). It didn't even cross my mind.

I can't imagine that the Mortons would marry off their two remaining SAHDs at the same time. Who is supposed to do alle the household chores? The menfolk???? Never!

And there are also a lot of babies at the compound and I always had the feeling that Addie and Martha were supporting their sister in law a lot.

If Pa Morton also sends Addie into a courtship this could mean that they struggle financially and are glad that there will be 2 mouths less two feed.

I don't think they need Addis and Martha at home. Andrew will probably be courting soon, Sam is almost 18 and the remaining three over 12. I've seen the men do housework, maybe not as much as the women, but it seems like they help around the house.

There are a lot of babies, but Kress, Rachel and Alan have two younger sisters who could help.

I can't imagine them marrying one girl off without the other going soon after. Alan and Kress both have at least 1 or 2 school age children now, and Madara seems good with babies to help out. The Mortons seem to really buy into marrying their kids off young so I wouldn't be surprised to see Andrew and Sam court and marry within the next two years. Andrew already has the house and job, its just a matter of time.

I don't know...in those families there are either other daughters to help out or there are no little kids left. The Bates and Mortons can afford to marry off a daughter or two.

Seems to be a number of folks on FJ (myself included) that thinks Alyssa is heading fundie lite/conservative Christian. Marriage is perhaps her best option of getting out of the Bates compound ASAP. I'm not overly familiar with the Mortons, so I can't say if that could be a motivation or not.

With the VF problems (thanks to Dougie), I'm guessing Perry Coghlan may be out of a job. I wonder if they'll hurry up and marry off the next daughter or two so they have less mouths to feed.

It's on the Morton blog. They look much more relaxed with each other without the whole family right there. I'd say a late winter/early spring wedding.
