IMO there is also a  different issue at play with use of a public defender. Namely, public defenders are supposed to be used when the defendant is indigent (or the crime so unique or severe that only a public defender would have the experience to provide effective counsel). Neither of those conditions applies in this situation.

Excellent point! I think Josh and Anna were back to living in the warehouse come the time of the arrest, but not long before that they had bought, lived in and sold a house (in their names) so Josh likely would not have qualified for a PD. I watch court calls on youtube, and I'm frequently surprised by how little money a person can make and not qualify for a PD. I doubt it would matter if JB and Michelle have money because Josh is an adult, but if he and Anna have any money to their names, own property, cars, co-own businesses he wouldn't and shouldn't qualify.

I suspect they have an extensive number of shell companies. Asking for a public defender would invite scrutiny.

Any one of those continuing education or occupational education courses would do Josh a lot of good. At the very least, they would occupy his time. However, he probably thinks he’s too advanced for the automotive or computer tracks, and maybe that he’s above formal education in general. He’s also probably too lazy and undisciplined to put in the necessary work.

I agree it would do a lot of good if, for no other reason, it's better then stewing over your conviction for the next 10 years.   And whining for Daddy to do something about it.

If he went on the automotive track it would prepare him better for returning to the car lot.

How can he sell cars if one of his parole requirements is no internet? The internet would be essential for advertising inventory, securing auto loans, communicating with customers, and much more.

He's going to be stuck as a mechanic at Jed's car lot. What else can he do in Duggarland? He'll be too old for construction.

Nonsense, he'll be perfectly qualified to be the man in the dunk tank at carnivals.

I wanted to react with the laugh emoji and then I started thinking how creepy it would be if he actually did this. Fortunately for the carnival he won't be allowed children! :puke-front:

He should do this to raise funds for his court costs. Enough people hate the guy, it should only take about a week.

Reality is that he’ll do whatever JB tells him to do. After all, God speaks specifically to JB about every aspect of his kids’ lives.

Do they ever wonder why that is? They’re supposed to have this personal relationship with God then he only talks to Jim Bob.

Would he actually be allowed to follow a computer track? Since it is where his crime took place.

I wonder what his relationship is like with JB these days. Does JB still think the convict is being wrongly persecuted or is JB only supporting him financially while knowing he’s evil af.

I don't think JB ever thought Josh was innocent, he just didn't want to publicly admit he raised and supported a monster.  Saving face as much as possible was worth a lot of money to the Duggars.  Did JB & Michelle ever release a statement about him being innocent?

No. Their statement just said that they basically denounced CSAM and still loved the Felon as they love all the others. It was a non-statement statement.

I believe Jim Bob highly suspected and probably knew Josh was guilty from the beginning. It would not surprise me if Jim Bob knows even more atrocities committed by Josh. I'm guessing after Josh voluntarily cooperated to be interviewed by Homeland he left and went to get in touch with his dad. Josh's cell phone was seized so he couldn't just call, and he probably didn't want to have that conversation on the landline at work. Maybe Josh freaked out a bit, but I doubt much time elapsed before he knew he had to get in touch with his dad so he could get a lawyer and a plan.

The search warrant was executed by Homeland Security on November 8, 2019 Homeland Security at Josh Duggar's place of business and Josh had a 51-minute conversation with Homeland Security. After the search warrant was executed and JB was brought in the loop I imagine JB contacted an attorney or two to make a plan, but at this point it is wait and see what the feds find and see if they are going to bring charges. Josh was probably advised to keep a low profile, stay out of trouble, get your affairs in order in case of an arrest.

Josh wasn't charged until April 2021; it takes time to build a case. JB probably hoped the feds weren't going to bring charges (unlikely but he can hope). Once Josh was charged JB probably hoped the lawyers would be able to get the case tossed on some technicality (because I believe JB knew Josh was guilty), and then JB could cry persecution, an attack on Christians, etc.

JB is slippery, and I think the statement below is a bold face lie, JB knew. November 8, 2019 the search warrant at Josh's place of business was executed. November 19, 2019 (11 days later) an article runs in People Magazine and here is what the Duggars had to say (article linked below):

A rep for the Duggar family told PEOPLE in a statement “We were shocked to see a news report today state that our home was raided by federal law enforcement agencies. This is not true. To the best of our knowledge, it’s also not true that any member of our family is the target of any investigation of any kind.”

“Living a life in the public’s eye has taught us that it is best not to reply to every rumor and piece of ‘fake news’ that is circulated online,” the rep’s statement continued. “It would be a full-time job if we attempted to do so. However, because of tonight’s media coverage we thought it is important to address this rumor with you. Thank you for the love and support that we can always count on in you our fans and friends.”

It's possible they will allow him to have internet to come capacity for work, as we always want our clients working, but it would be very closely monitored by parole and limited in capacity as to what he would be able to do online. It's also possible he could hire someone to do his internet business for him.

Does his prison offer courses? Maybe he could get his mechanic's license. He will be taken back by his family but pushed into the background.

Josh's release date is currently October 2032. If he manages to avoid another lengthening  of his sentence, that is a little over nine years away.

I wonder how this will play out. So far, he seems to be sticking to the "SODDI" explanation: some other dude did it. This means he cannot express remorse. Fairly soon, the appeals process will end. He can still hang onto hope that a different president will pardon him, even though it is unlikely that any president will pardon someone convicted of possessing CSAM.

I don't believe any in-prison rehabilitation program will take him as long as he denies that he downloaded the materials. So he has over nine years of doing nothing.

I really thought he would decide to become a model prisoner, including expressing remorse for what he is done, and stating that Jesus saves even a miserable sinner like himself. Maybe he will do so once the appeals process is over.

What neither Josh nor JB has taken into account is that even if Josh didn’t do it himself, he absolutely had to know who did it and chose not to report. That is also illegal.

Very likely no rehab or treatment programs will take him until he admits guilt. Even our outpatient specialized treatment we have locally, if you don't admit guilt, you don't even get into the program and no program, no community supervision.

I see him admitting guilt in the future, even if he doesn't believe it though, to make himself look better and get into a program after wallowing around for a few years doing nothing. Thankfully, these specialists can usually tell when someone is lying.

I don’t even see how a program would work if he doesn’t admit guilt. He has to at least be willing to acknowledge the problem in order to work on it.
