Duggars by the Dozen 43: One in Jail, Another Made Bail, and a Senate Election Fail

The Radfords have come up in my browsing as they periodically do. They've been having semi regular one off TV specials copied of the Duggars and counting series.

From 14 kids and counting (the English version), 22 kids and counting is now due to be released in the UK (there have been other specials in the middle).

According to the interview they stopped 2 years ago after kid 22 because homeschooling during the British lockdown broke the mum.

I'm imagining Michelle's face if she found about them.  22 kids (I think 21 living, because they count a still birth of no 17 in their numbers), no twins and no one in jail.  Though one of the daughters is a single parent living at home with their grandbaby.  I don't think they're fundy either.  They both love kids and I think had difficult childhoods and so got a bit baby addicted.  Kids all go to normal school, though I don't think the older ones went to university.

No 2 parents can healthily parent 20+ children. Not Mary and Joseph or any other couple. Maybe if the day was 200 hours long, and each parent had 6 arms and legs, but with our current restraints, nope.

Michelle had an appropriate laundry room break down with 7 kids and she should have stopped.

At least the Radfords sent their kids to school and didn't attempt to teach lots of kids of different abilities while wrangling toddlers and infants.  It doesn't mean they parented properly, just better than the Duggars.

Michelle knows about them, I'm pretty sure she sent them good wishes when their son was stillborn (don't ask me how I keep this information in my head and yet can't remember pin codes)

The Radfords aren't fundie but both Noel and Sue were adopted as babies and I think maybe spent time in care later too - I've seen Sue go on about how her kids having so many siblings mean they are never alone, and this seems to loom large in her justification for having so many, because she herself was lonely and unconnected. She also got pregnant with her first child when she was 13 and Noel was 17 or 18, so... that's rather uncomfortable. I think the Radfords have quite a lot of issues that they 'fix' with children, particularly Sue.

Some people hoard things and it looks like some people hoard kids.  Neither group takes care of what they hoard.

Gee…it’s almost like teachers are important parts of society…

At least it seems like this woman didn’t have a problem with public schooling, but I worry about all the women here who attempt to homeschool their large broods. I was just looking up the Advanced Training Institute homeschool materials (the ones the Duggars used and the ones connected with IBLP) and they are…interesting to say the least. Biblical teaching? Maybe. Actual academics? Not so much.

Lots of right wing Daily Mail reading types in the UK love the Radfords because the dad has a bakery and they supposedly don’t claim state benefits ( and also because they are white, but they don’t actually come out and say that).

My problem with that is that the bakery is just a single business - it’s not a chain or million pound operation. They certainly will have got child benefit initially until the qualification for it was modified. They also have had NHS  deliveries and healthcare for them and for all their children, state education and all the other resources they use up. And yes, she was 13 when he, an 18 year old, got her pregnant for the 1st time and I have a huge problem with that being swept under the rug because they later got married.

Yeah.  The Radfords aren't fundy, but they have serious issues.   Now a days in the UK a pregnant 13 year old is an automatic social services referral and a 18 year old father would be taken far more seriously then another 13 year old.  I also remember in one of their early specials an 7-12 ish kid, hitting a misbehaving toddler (single smack on the hand/bottom, I can't remember - not a beating, but still physical discipline) on camera and no one even reacting.  It was clear that physical punishment is used there and older kids discipline.  For those in the US, spanking is legal in the UK, but people don't tend to admit to it or boast about it like they do over there.

They aren't a cult and those kids are better off than the Duggar kids (education and access to the world) but they aren't well cared for or parented.

And the Radfords have never had to worry about medical bills with anyone or being one illness away from poverty. They will have got tax credits as well and likely free nursery hours.  Just because they have not need to claim unemployment benefits, doesn't mean they won't have had many thousands in other forms of benefits to help them.

No surprise that Josh was looking at porn on their homeschooling computers as a teen. Isn’t it interesting how JB and Michelle were psycho about no tv. But if they had allowed tv and no computers, Josh likely wouldn’t have been exposed to porn much at all in his childhood. 

Can someone tell me, didn’t Teresa Fedosky’s daughter just have a homebirth with Teresa attending that ended in the baby’s death?

A: Oh my goodness. Out of all the things the I have an issue with this is number one honestly. Ummmm, yeah so she has never been an actual midwife until very recently. She got licensed for a bit and then let her license expire. She has always gotten around licensing laws by saying she is a "doula" and instructs her clients to say she is not a midwife. The issue with this is you are not allowed to do certain things as a doula that a midwife is allowed to do. And yet, she does those things. And had done those things on the show with the Duggars which they have covered for her. Most recent shitty situation is my mom was involved in the birth of my niece in October and my niece passed away 30 minutes after being born and the labor lasted what I am told was close to 3 days. It is not at all a good situation and as someone who has been in the medical field myself for nearly 10 years I am having a very hard time understanding what the hell happened and why it was allowed to happen.

Clarification: Spanking is legal in England and NI, but NOT in Scotland (currently) and Wales (from 2022).

I watched the tik toks. So Josh was savvy enough to secretly download 1000s of porn files but not savvy enough to wipe the hard drives. That totally fits with what happened with the CSAM. And clearly he was stupid enough to not learn after getting caught the first time. I wish that he had said when that occurred.  Anyone know his age? He said that he was 10.
