JB and Michelle are not heartbroken. They are furious. How could anyone accuse their perfect child of such a heinous thing? Besides, it's the children's fault for being born naked.

I will never forgot the day my husband and I were talking to his staunchly RC mother about the church’s sexual abuse scandal, and she replied “children need to stop tempting the priests.”  I kid you not. We both walked out of that house just blown away. The length of denial and justification of some, knows no limits.

KISS did it for a decade...he can do it for a couple of months before the slammer.

Maybe Jim Bob and the boys are building the fence out of the leftover "Duggar for Senate " signs.

This.  I mean if they truly believed that Satan targets the most Godly like this then they should be pretty furious at their Savior for allowing that.

However furious they may be I have no doubt they are far more angry that it is public knowledge than that it happened.

It is too bad those younger Duggar's aren't in public school, for a million reasons but the signs are such a wasted opportunity!  I was the campaign manager of a friend who ran for student council president in 6th grade and his dad was an elected judge, so we got to use all his old campaign signs.

He won and to this day I credit his victory to my expert gluing of construction paper and bubble letters to edit those signs.

No idea what he's doing now, but whatever it is I'm sure he's more successful than he would have otherwise been without my winning the campaign for him.

If that was Mrs. Reber on the 911 call (seriously, an emergency line?  Does no one use police non-emergency numbers any longer?)

I don't know how it is where she lives -- but in some municipalities like mine, the public is told specifically to use 911 for all police requests, even for non-emergency issues (like reporting a burglary, noise, etc.). It's probably more cost-effective for them to have all dispatching done centrally than to have two separate systems.

Agree 100% regarding JB.  But after reading old friend Justin's posts on reddit (the Journal guy) I think Michelle has a better idea of what her first born really is.  His impression of Michelle is that she was totally stressed trying to manage the sister moms and the overall household.  (And he did see her as a manager as opposed to a mother.) He says she seemed to have an especially distant relationship with Josh and spoke to him in clipped tones.  She comes across as an angry person struggling to control that anger. (He saw her explode a few times)   And he also confirmed that JB and the boys are treated like princes who do nothing but "fun projects".

I have zero sympathy for the woman, but I'm not sure (the real) Michelle is buying any of Josh's bullshit.

No, a lot of people do not use non-emergency numbers any longer. 911 is heavily advertised and short and easy to remember for a reason--and when you call they do ask you if it's an emergency or not. I work next to one police station and live next to another one and could not tell you what the "non-emergency" number is, because the ONLY number they put out there is 911.

I mean, given the high price of lumber these days, I would be less shocked about a fence actually being built if it was made from those (or something like pallet wood). I just can’t see JB shelling out the kind of $ new lumber costs right now (at least in my area) in order to build a fence around someone else’s property.

Did the article say it was a permanent structure?  They could be just putting up some stakes and chicken wire to keep the media out.

They could put up metal barricades to keep media at a distance, or other temporary measures, like those tall chain-link sections with the vertical pieces to block the view like they do at urban construction sites.  I'm sure those kinds of things could be leased for a few months -- unless the fence is something the Rebers would like anyway.

Ah, yeah, those types of fences make more sense! I’ve been trying to figure out how it would work with his reluctance to spend money and the costs of building materials being so high at the moment.

In my mind I kept imagining that he’d build something like the fence a friend of mine once built out of free pallets and zip ties ?

I do like the idea of Smugs being encased in barbed wire.  But since they aren't going to cocoon him in it I hope they use something less dangerous for local wildlife.

Thanks for posting the link; this is a great article. As soon as I read it, I shared it on my FB page.

A quote in the article from Ruth, a former quiverfull daughter:

Quote

"I grew up around at least a half dozen other Quiverfull families, maybe more," Ruth said. "And the parents, the fathers mostly, would talk about what a blessing children are, but I'll tell you, they didn't care about the female arrows in their quiver."

After Ruth ran away at age 17:

Quote

.....the first time Ruth...really watched the Duggars on television. "I watched this sanitized version of what Quiverfull life was like and I was hurt, I was disgusted," she said. "I can't even look at them to this day without getting angry."

Ruth said she hopes that the Duggars' crumbling facade in the face of Josh's scandals will make the public question other aspects of the family life they modeled for years on TV.

And this gives me hope that perhaps the time is coming that a documentary will be developed to describe and give insight into the true realities of the quiverfull (and similar) lifestyle.

Quote

Over the last decade, the concept of parentification has gained enough mainstream traction that former viewers of the now-cancelled TLC show "19 Kids and Counting" have started to question whether the network's framing of the family as an oversized "Waltons" was shielding something more sinister, especially as the family's eldest son, Josh, has fallen into scandal after scandal, and has now been arrested for the possession of child pornography.

I remember seeing a Duggar "chore list," back in the day.  Jill had things like "cook dinner every night" and "care for the baby." John David had "train the dog."

In other words, John David had a job that took maybe 20 minutes a day. Jill had all day responsibilities.

And 31 YO SAHD Jana, still sleeps in the girls’ nursery and must have a chaperone/buddy anytime she leaves chez Duggar.
I wish I can ask JB why 7 YOs can be full fledged sister moms while a 31 YO woman, who has raised his kids, has the freedoms of a 4 YO.

Where I’m at we have to call 911 for everything. Then the dispatcher decides if your situation is non-emergency. If it is they transfer you to that line.

I don’t think JB is drumming up the news stories. It is more like the media cycles the story every so many days. Most of the articles and segments since his bail hearing are rehashing of everything that’s already known. The 911 call and fence are new stories, but there isn’t that much to tell. They get a comment from a neighbor who doesn’t have much to say. Then they repeat the whole Josh story.

I'm calling it now.  HBO or Netflix is already fielding ideas for the six part documentary about the Quiverfull movement, and Josh and the Duggars will feature prominently.  And they'll get the full NXIVM treatment.  F'Amy is probably getting ready for her close up as I type.

By NCIVM treatment do you mean a critical expose?  I'd be on board for that, even if it means Famy mugging to the camera.
