He doesn't understand and doesn't want to understand how counting works. I thought Twitter had blocked that one.

RE Texas Latinos - I saw something (probably last night - and it might have been PBS) speculating that Biden could be hurt by the frakking comment in that group because of livelihoods that depend on the oil industry.

He thinks that counting the votes that came in before the deadline is a bad thing. So when they count (find) votes that happen to be for Biden, he wants to tell his sheeple that they shouldn't trust those valid and legal ballots, because they're not for him.

My boss is a major Branch Trumpvidian. He told me during one of our one on one calls that I should start watching OANN because Faux has become too biased in favor of Dems. I was appalled, thinking how inappropriate it was for him to say something like that to a subordinate. Instead of saying what I would have loved to say, which would have involved some obscenities, I just replied, "is that so?"

It's so inappropriate, and yet so common.

Well, from his perspective it certainly would be. No wonder he's real busy sowing doubt and discord.

There are only about 300 votes left to count in Wisconsin, officials say. They’re in the town of Willow in Richland County. Biden leads by more than 20,000 votes. See Wisconsin results ›

According to CNN, margin is about 87,000 votes currently in Georgia with orange one leading. Their Secretary of State just came on and said there's about 200,000 votes still that had to be counted with a huge number of those in Fulton county (includes ATL) and other heavily populated areas. That one is going to be so close, and it's crucial in the Senate fight as well.

Biden is super unpopular among Latinos (not least because the Obama admin really wasn’t that great for Latinos). The Biden campaign pretty much just ignored this weakness, apparently thinking that just saying “look how terrible Trump is” will win them the Latino vote. Clearly that backfired in a major way. Biden made significant gains among white voters compared to Clinton, and had significant losses among Latino voters. Here’s hoping that won’t bite us all in the ass this election. But they (and the entire Democratic Party) really need to step up their game when it comes to convincing Latino voters.

As a Venezuelan with lots of friends and family in the US and everywhere, Trump played the media game of fear calling Biden a socialist and we all know what Cubans and Venezuelans fear the most: Socialism. Sadly, most people out of ignorance didn't take the time to actually read reliable sources and investigate about Biden and fell for it; also, most of this people went from an extreme left to an extreme right (to be honest Latinos are still quite conservative) so they think going for Trump is the way to go. My husband's family lives in the Miami-Dade county and they ALL voted for Trump, and lots of people we know. Hell, even my mom who hates Trump's guts was asking me about Biden being a socialist.

Did anyone realise this yet?

And since the counting is ongoing for some time to come, that number will only grow.

Per the Trump campaign, they will request a recount in WI, because it appears that Biden won there.

First time poster here! I'm just looking for some reassurance, I guess. I barely slept last night, and feel like my heart will pound right out of my chest. I don't drink, but I'm considering taking it up. As I said to my husband last night, "I just hate that orange bastard so much." I can't stand the thought of his reelection. I can't.

Welcome to FJ - I hope you continue to post.  Sorry the circumstances of your welcome are so crappy.

And they need to figure out what is happening with Latinos (and could start by cutting out the "Latinx" stuff). A huge number of Latino voters are moving right, and under Trump of all people. White people actually moved in the direction of Biden.

And they need to stop seeing Latinos as a monolith.  I am sure the socialism name calling hurt the Dems with Cubans and others who fled socialist/communist regimes.  Idk how that impacts others, but I know that Catholicism plays a role with many groups as well.

American Catholics are often Democrats despite the pro-choice stance of the party, but Catholic immigrants are often more religious and socially conservative which helps them lean Republican.

I agree. Trump knows how to get people excited and how to control the narrative pretty well.

I agree he controls the narrative better for his sheep because it's simple and they don't care about contradictions - they fall in lockstep with the talking points du jour.  I do not know how any intelligent person with the ability to think critically can take him seriously just based on his lack of knowledge and lies.  That's the one thing we, as a country, need to figure out.  How is his schtick working with otherwise intelligent, educated people?  (The ones who follow him, not those who hold their nose and vote for him because they think it's better for them fiscally.)

That's definitely what happened in Florida (it also seems to work well with Vietnamese-American voters), but it doesn't explain what happened with Hispanics in Texas. I don't have any answers there either.

Totally anecdotal, but 90% of my co-workers are Mexican immigrants and those to whom I've spoken are very anti-Trump and were quite upset when he was impeached and we needed to explain that didn't mean he was leaving office.

I would really like to understand the motivation for pro-Trump immigrants in Texas.  We can't address problems unless we understand them.

I He was a young, good looking, person of color who just got people excited.

Swap person of color with Catholic and it's very similar to Kennedy.  Catholics turned out in droves to vote for one of their own and others were terrified to have "one of them" in the White House.

Welcome! We hope you continue to post here in the political forum. We're normally a pretty friendly bunch.

Yes, usually, despite a certain someone losing her shit for a few posts on election day.  Apologies for subjecting you all to that yesterday.  I'd try to excuse it due to my anxiety of the fate of our country but as we're all in the same boat and I'm the only one who had a tantrum it's just on me.

But usually friendly, yes.  Also reasonable.

As long as the votes and counting is fair and accurate I don't mind the request for a recount.  I have a problem trying to game the system, but using the system to ensure accuracy is a good thing IMO.

Key words being fair and accurate.

You would think that Biden being a devout practicing Catholic would be in his favour then. I guess religion doesn't factor in so much for them as being socially conservative does.

I have to gently disagree with you here. You most assuredly did not have a tantrum. You simply weren't taking any bullshit and told said poster what's what. Standing up for your opinion and pointing out trollish behaviour is not the equivalent of a tantrum. You should be proud for speaking your mind as you did.

I really think this will upset Trump almost more than losing the election. This sort of stuff really gets under his skin.

I would not want to be around Trump today. Did Melania stay in Florida?  He is going on little sleep, probably even less than normal, he seems to have actually thought today would be a day for him to gloat about winning and he has to be in a constant state of tantrums demanding the impossible.

Recount away. Barring any major fuckups, he’s not going to magically find 20K votes in WI.

I gathered Melania was with him last night and even made an appearance when he made his speech. I saw comments about her looking angry or something (I'll have to look that up again).

As to Trump's behaviour? I'm guessing it's exactly what we predicted it would be. Throwing angry fits, furiously tweeting and riling up his base with false claims of Dems stealing the elections.

I wonder what "medical procedure" Melania will go in for (secretly) in a few days.

Sara Gideon conceded to Susan Collins.

That leaves Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia (both the Special Election which heads to a runofff, and the other seat which is 50.7 R to 47 D right now), and Alaska.

I would have thought so, actually, but it makes sense that it didn't matter.

Unlike fundy politicians, Joe separates his personal religion from his political actions. He's not trying to Catholic up the country.  So his being on the pro-choice ticket to some people means he might as well not be Catholic at all.

And the whole voting for one of our own as a tribal statement isn't a thing anymore as Catholics aren't othered these days the way they were back then.  My grandfather came from Ireland and judging by McConnell's name his family probably did too at some point, but I feel no kinship, clan loyalty, or tribal unity with him.  But if this were in the 1800's and Irish faced serious discrimination in some corners I might have felt safer voting* for someone whose heritage meant he probably wouldn't hate me out of knee-jerk bigotry.

*Not that I could have voted back then, being just a silly woman and such...I'd just make my imaginary historical husband vote in our best interests or no homemade soda bread for him!

I know she's the FLOUTUS and all, but I don't see them as a couple.  Do you think she spends any time with him at all?  This looks like a marriage on paper only deal to me.

Absolutely!  And declare himself a landslide and the only President in history to get 100% of the popular and EC vote.

You know even once he finally goes away we're all going to hear his annoying voice in our heads for a while, like tinnitus.

Did anyone catch Colbert last night?  I know they had some thing on Showtime or something, but I'm not signing up for a trial to watch it.  Is it worth seeking out?
