Branch Trumpvidians 4: Deplorables Are Everywhere

A time when Republicans would rather have a Democrat take an elective office than to have a kluxer like David Duke or the Grand Wizard of 1600 Pennsylvania take the office.  (Yes that happened in Louisiana where Republicans supported Democrats because of Duke being the Republican candidate).

“Vote for the Crook. It’s Important.”

Edwin Edwards was the democrat who was running for governor back in 1991, and he was a crook. He'd been charged with bribery and was later convicted of 17 counts related to extortion and racketeering. I happened to be in Louisiana around the time of that election in a small-town diner.  Just as I was about to leave, one of the locals spoke loudly enough to be heard in the entire restaurant about how David Duke "had some good ideas." :martian-disgust:

Yeah if a business doesn't advertise their Branch Trumpvidianism and tries to stay neutral then I'm OK with them.  It's when they make it clear that they love fuck face and any money you give them is likely to wind up as a campaign donation to the fuck nugget and his various elected supporters is when you lose me.

Agreed. You have to carefully pick your battles when you live in an area where your politics are in the minority.

On that note, a few years back we had a local business where the owners decided to retire and sold their building to someone else. So, our newspaper did one of those "business X is relocating, so come spend your money at their new location!" articles. I'm reading the article and the new location was going to be much more convenient for me than their old one, so I make a mental note to stop by once they open back up. I keep reading and the issue of marriage equality comes up, and one of owners goes off on a "Jesus boo-hoos in his beer whenever gay people are treated the same as heterosexuals!" rant. :angry-fire:

I stopped reading and promptly put them on my "Do not buy from" list.

Well I did ask the county supervisors and sheriff if there were any regs on flats mounted on vehicles. I pointed out to them if some moron didn’t secure the fuck face banner and it came off in front of a cyclist it could injure or kill them.

I’m up in Minnesota now - I had a job interview today.  Decided to head for a brewery afterwards. First one I went to had a giant fuck face flag out front so HARD pass.  See that’s the easiest way to drive customers away. Simply show you love fuck face and I’ll never come around.

The sheriff looked at that video and said that was the first time he heard of a flag coming loose like that. He said if it becomes more on issue in future campaigns the county would address it then.

I think it went ok. He asked me for some more info on supervised practice so I think he’s interested.

Awww...

Of course, it also got them their 15 minutes of fame and a chance to participate in the Republican convention, so...

Maybe they should have just stayed on their butts in their house instead of running out brandishing guns in the first place.

Although I suspect this lawsuit is an attempt to add a few more minutes of fame. They'd have faded off the radar eventually if they'd just shut their mouths and gone on about their lives.

Wait  - they claim a picture taken of what they were actually doing is harming them?

I guess it's no surprise - like their hero, DT, and all of his sycophants, they are all the most fragile snowflakes of all the snowflakes that ever melted.

There's a way to have avoided this problem.

Don't assume that a peaceful protest that walks past your house is a mob intent on harming you.  Then you won't rush out of your house and wave guns around.

Don't get mad if your public actions are filmed and people who disagree with your actions make money off the images of you standing outside waving guns around.

Don't get excited by the publicity that gets you an invitation to take part in the RNC, and then happily accept said invitation.  Then you won't have hurt feelings if you're mocked by people who found your actions...mockable.

Don't use the same images as a greeting card.

You know what it seems like?  It looks like you thought you could stand in your yard and wave guns at protesters, and collect benefits from your actions.  But now that the election's over and your guy lost?  Suddenly you worry about how your actions have resulted in "significant national recognition and infamy."  I guess you're true Trump Republicans, racist assholes who loved the feeling of being in power.  Bonus points if you have or decided you have felt powerless, misunderstood, and victimized in the past.

You were out there, showing off your guns and letting the world know that you were on top of the food chain and lesser beings better not get in the way.  But now that the tables have turned, you scurry back to your default setting of resentment.

You're supposed to be lawyers, well versed in the law.  But you go outside and do this shit and are now suddenly upset that people have seen and talked about it in a negative way?  Your pied piper is on his way out and now your baser instincts have been exposed?  Poor babies.  Grow up.

Ricky Schroder is a Trumper? I feel bad now for having a crush on him in the 80s.

Not sure if he's a Trumper, but I'm positive he's a whiny asshole:

FFS Ben, it's Hallmark, not Pornhub, so the big romantic payoff will be a pretty tame kiss, probably near some holiday decorations. Do you bitch about all the movies where a heterosexual couple does that?

Didn't think so.

My one vice during the Christmas season is binge watching sappy Hallmark movies during the weekends. So far I’ve watched about ten of them. Only one had a lesbian couple (supporting characters) and oh shock! They made googly eyes at each other and, in a pearl-clutching horror moment, even went so far as to hold hands! :pearlclutching:

If Hallmark didn’t believe there was a market for them they wouldn’t make the movies.

I watch them. They are pretty fluff on In the background and I like seeing the decorations and fabulous winter coats the women wear. My husband will often wander in and ask how the movie is. I always reply , in mock consternation, that oh no there has been a misunderstanding of some sort but I’m sure it will all work out in the end.

I'm Jewish (don't get me started on the lack of representation here; the movie Holidate covers just about every holiday except a Jewish one), but I LOVEEEEE the Hallmark type Christmas movies. My favorite part is predicting the ending during the first five minutes. Last night, I fell asleep watching Holiday in the Wild for the second time. Usually I only watch these movies once, but as cheesy as it is I love Rob Lowe.

I put on Operation Christmas Drop to fall asleep, but apparently my husband stayed up to watch it. I was shocked the next morning when he told me the ending:

Spoiler

The two main characters did NOT kiss at the end; the woman got a promotion!

For those of you who watch the Hallmark movies I have a question.  I saw one years ago starring Nancy McKeon and something about amnesia and a car crash and sad to say I didn't understand it.

She was a single corporate woman > get in car crash > wakes up to a husband and children she doesn't recognize and is apparently a wife and mother > then wakes up in her car meeting her "husband" for the first time.

Which was real?  I still don't know which part of her life was imaginary and which wasn't.  I don't want to hijack the thread but if anyone can explain this to me can you hit me up in my status and let me know...because apparently I'm not smart enough to follow the plot of a Hallmark movie.

I don't know but that's the specific type of Hallmark movie that I hate... there's a whole damn subgenre of them in which high flying single successful women have an accident and find out they're happier chucking their career that they sacrificed a lot for, moving from the big city into Podunksville, two hundred miles from Nowhere, and becoming the stepmommy to a poor but handsome football coach single dad's two bratty kids.

Why is it always the woman to give up her career? Why can't Mr Hottie Studmuffin move into the big city?

I did see one recently (ish) that had the big city guy chuck it all for the small town bakery owner. So, there's that, I guess.

Yes, I watch more of these than I should like to admit. ? They're nice, mindless, eye-rolling, fluff that I don't have to pay attention to, and everything always works out in the end.

Apparently, there are a bunch of Royalty themed ones coming out this month. A few channels have had ads lately.

Husband: Oh, look. There are more of those crappy shows you watch coming out.

Me: Yeah? Cool.

Husband: They must really want to push this show. Here's the ad again.

Me: No, that's a different show. Same theme though!

Husband: It's the same. There's the princess falling for some guy.

Me: No, it's a different movie.

Husband: It's the same plot. Same plot - it has to be the same show.

Me: It has a different title. Different movie. ?‍♀️

Husband: IT'S THE SAME DAMN MOVIE! WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM!!! :bangheaddesk:
