So Erin cant go help at her boutique because of social distancing but they allow Lawson to be with the kids? Also pretty sure recording a reality show it is not an essential business. Hope the neighbours call the police.

But Lawson is using the stay at home sticker on his stories so obviously he’s taking it seriously ?

So now Lawson is posing with Everly. He's actually using this pic to thank the essential workers "keeping us all safe" while doing the opposite of social distancing.  WTF??  I know these fundies treat children primarily as accessories, but Lawson is taking it to a dangerous new level.

He's using Everly to cleverly (heh-heh) show us that his artistic cartooning skills are as good as his singing skills. He's proud!

Shouldn’t a godly young man with a gun and a badge be about doing some voluntary work if he can't stay at home ? He could be delivering groceries picking up prescriptions for people who are shielding, rather than colouring in and posing for selfies.

Per his Instagram; Lawson has qualified as a pilot. He gives a lot of credit to Nathan for helping and encouraging him

Hmm I saw a piece on the news about a 16 year old getting his pilot license. He has been flying medical supplies to rural hospitals during his lessons. Too bad all these fundie preening pilots FPP™️ weren’t doing something that helpful.

Ok on the latest episode of BUB Lawson took douche to a whole new level. Gill is in a sling and they had a rare tree job. Gill has obviously put Nathan in charge of going up in the bucket to do the work. As Gill gives Nathan directions Lawson keeps interrupting because he wants to be the one in the bucket. We are talking toddler behavior! Finally he got the message he wasn’t going to be in the bucket. Everyone is getting setup and Lawson is off filming and doing selfies. The rest of the boys are working but Lawson is preening.

Bet that sums up his missioncation and “relief” work also

Beliefs aside, I find the personalities of most of the Bates “men” intolerable, except maybe Zach.

I would agree. When he didn’t get the job he wanted he was off taking pictures that don’t appear to have made it to Instagram. I’m guessing he couldn’t figure out how to make himself look good in them.

Omg there is actually a time when Lawson thinks he is less than awesome and can’t post to Instagram lol

My theory on Lawson: he is kind of wary of some things the other boys and men in the family do. A few years ago in their episode at a lake with the huge double-decker dock, Lawson was the only older Bates (that I can remember) who wore a life vest when jumping into and swimming in the lake. Nothing wrong with that, but he was the only older 'kid' wearing one.

My guess is that Gil set him up with the lawn business because Lawson couldn't do the dangerous tree work. That was bringing in some family money at the time, so Lawson was probably expected to bring in family money with his lawn business since he really didn't want to do the tree work. Kelly spun that off into how great Lawson is because he feeds the family. It was Lawson's contribution while the other boys worked in the tree business.

So when Lawson was gibbering about being the one in the bucket every single one of them knew it was a joke and that Lawson was wanting the jumpers to believe he was a he-man or something. He was never going in that bucket!

Ha ha, I feel so important developing and theory and sharing it! Yep, my life is boring.

Rufus forgive me...

I don't remember if Lawson was the only older Bates wearing one but good for him.

Some of that stuff looked super fun, but it only takes a minute for something to go wrong quickly. A life jacket in that situation could make a huge difference in outcome. I'm not saying every adult should wear a lifejacket whenever they are near the water but doing all of that stuff I would have felt much more comfortable in one.

Apparently I'm super wrong and a life jacket could do more harm than good. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm just very risk averse when it comes to water.

How could a life jacket do more harm? Is it from jumping into the lake from so high? I saw nothing wrong with it; it was just an observation. I do remember Lawson being the only one having ear trouble after jumping in, maybe wearing a life jacket caused something to happen?

@Bobology

I am not a life saving professional.

Apparently from some very quick skimming of the internet if you're jumping from high up it can cause injury when you hit the water? I think it's something to do with the life jacket kind of popping up and hitting you in the face?

I would also think that a life jacket would be safer. Like I said I honestly have no idea.

I'm confident that Lawson didn't do a heck of a lot of reading and like me just assumed it was safer. Which again is something I can 100% relate to.

There were so many kids and kidults in and out of the water diving, zip lining, bouncing off the air pad thing. It would have been so easy for one to slip under and no one to notice. Good on Lawson for embracing safety the best way most of us would know how.

Now if you'll excuse me, I just said "good on Lawson" so I'll be escorting myself to the prayer closet and reciting 20 hail Rufuses as my penance.

I could be wrong - but I thought Lawson had the life jacket on because they had been doing something like using a Jet Ski on the lake (where a life jacket is beneficial) and left it on when they jumped later on.

I worked at a summer camp for 4 summers and off further on the lake, their was a rather high cliff that was certainly higher than a double decker dock. It was often a sort of rite of passage or welcoming for new kids at camp to go jumping off that cliff into the lake. Even if I was not a lifeguard, I did have water safety training while working there because we were on the water quite often. Not to mention we did have real lifeguards on site (because of a beach and pool), and it was mandatory to do the cliff jump with a life jacket - kids and counselors alike. Camp policy. Never questioned it (maybe because I was like... 19 YO and it seemd safe to me). No accidents ever happened in the camp's history (I also used to go there as a kid before becoming a counselor). :confusion-shrug:

That job gave me tons of experience with being on water though. It is true that the most stressful moments I had on the lake did happen in situations that would seem the most ''low risk'' (like in very stirdy rabaska - with a unsinkable reputation). It didn't take much, just the wind getting stronger and the waves a bit higher and you could have a hard situation on your hands. So being on or near the water is never to be taken lightly. TBH, I don't judge Lawson for that call.

(Just adding something: I just realized a rabaska is very Canadian-centric ting. So sorry. It is a large and long canoe that can hold-up at least 12-13 adults and almost 18-19 kids - if they are small enough. When I worked at camp, it was considered the get-to for inexperienced groups or newcomers, because you only really need the conductor in the back to have good canoe-experience. The person in the back is basically the driver and controls everything. The rest of the crew is just arm-power really. So the worst that could happen if they never had been in a canoe before? Well you simply didn't get far out on the lake. It is quite wide and stirdy, so it was also considered ''unsinkable'' within our little counselor circle. But be not mistaken. It is sinkable. We managed to accomplish that. ?)

Lawson wore ear plugs Kelly had bought for everyone because apparently several Bateseses used to have ear trouble after swimming. The plugs were apparently not suitable for jumping in from a greater height and that's how he hurt his ears, I think.

One injury you can avoid when doing a cliff jump in a life jacket: undo the crotch strap first. Worst wedgie of my life. Felt it for daaaaayssss. You can laugh at me -- everyone else did.

(This was a, I dunno, 40-feet jump? It was the jump the staff did and wouldn't allow clients/kids anywhere near.)

Wonder what this preening caveman did to himself. (I didn’t listen).  We can hope it knocked some sense in to him maybe?

He said he has a concussion and is still kinda out of it. He'll tell us what happened when he "can think straight," so I guess we'll never know the cause of his injuries.

I just can’t with him. Maybe Gil let him in the bucket so he would stop whining?
