New post up.  Judgy Chelsy's shower.  Apparently the hostess is a neighbor friend and not someone she met on her own outside of Maxhell.

And once again, Chelsy beats them to the punch on posting this same event on her blog.  Wonder if the Maxwell groupies were pestering Teri and Steve and they had to work this into the schedule before the baby arrived?

One thing that's incredibly stupid about this Scamaritan bullshit is that it may encourage people to go off meds they need to be healthy.  I take Lisinopril for my blood pressure and Atorovastin (generic Lipitor) 20 mg for cholesterol every day.  A little over two dollars a month (insurance and CVS card) are much cheaper than a hospital stay if I should have another stroke.  Yep, a prior stoke is a pre-existing condition.

There's a notice in the reception area of my doctor's office that they do NOT accept Scamaritan and other such nonsense.

Yep. I don't have insurance, unfortunately. (My kids do, through the state, but I'm not eligible for that). I don't know how many times the thought has crossed my mind to come off my meds to save the cost of pills and doctor visits...if I had pressure from some "Christian" healthshare on top of that, it could be bad.

The whole thing is so unChristian anyway. Jesus, according to the Bible, was all about helping the poor, the sick, the needy, the prostitutes, etc. Scamaritan shuts out anyone who doesn't conform to their strict lifestyle. Not to mention that telling the hospital you're "cash pay" and then using Scamaritan money to pay the reduced bill doesn't seem all that ethical to me.

Our local hospital is lovely. I have a reduced fee schedule with them, which they do for people who are poor but don't have insurance. That way I can pay out of pocket for Dr. visits and such. Still expensive, but not AS expensive. But I'd feel like I was cheating if I was using Scamaritan money to pay for that. Just wouldn't feel right.

ITA.  My guess is it was the opposite, 20% out of pocket, 80% covered, and she misunderstood.

I'm going to go with misunderstood, but maybe she doesn't take into consideration deductibles and out of pocket? I know with our insurance (through my husband's work), we pay 20%, they pay 80%, but our deductible and out-of-pocket is ridiculously high. So depending on what procedure is getting done, sometimes the bill can feel the opposite YKWIM? But I'm thinking she's just over exaggerating quite a bit to kiss-up to the Maxwells.

Sodomy is also cheaper! : )

I also wondered what the costs associated with sodomy would be. The price of lube?

Heidi M had piss poor group insurance or she grossly misunderstood. With my experience health insurance normally pays about 80% of the charges after the deductible has been met. Again, that’s my experience.

A good deal of these people don't seem too bright so I'm fairly certain she doesn't understand how insurance works.

Last but not least, because we do not carry medical insurance, the hospital automatically deducted about 2/3 off our price as a cash discount, making this stay cost only about what most people pay for their health insurance premiums in a couple of months."

This pisses me off. Those of us with insurance pay for the care of scammers like Zoo. True enough, insurance plans negotiate discounts too, but I'm not intentionally going uncovered to get a reduced bill, and then writing about how this benefits me.

Checked the shower posts on both blogs. My god! Pants! Leggings! Decorations! Food! Fun! Where will these people go when they DIE?!

Also, the first paragraph of Sarah's post hurt my head. Let me rephrase it for you, Sarah:

"Melanie and a friend hosted a baby shower for Chelsy last month. The timing was perfect, because Chelsy's family members were able to attend the party before traveling to a Bible Bee in San Antonio!

Baby showers are a sweet an expression of love and care for the parents who are anticipating their child's birth. John and Chelsy were truly showered with many blessings!

For those wondering Chelsy and the baby are doing well. We are all excited to meet the baby, who is due any day!"

There. I feel better.

This was a comment on a blog post (not tits2) about Scamaritin responding to another comment questioning what about religion makes a healthier lifestyle.  I wonder what Diedre thinks goes on in a normal non religious house?

My IUD cost $65 out of pocket, and my next one will be a cool Free 99, thanks to the NHS. That costs way less than having umpteen kids.

Also, buttfucking don't cost a thing unless you want it to.

And about how socialised healthcare - which would benefit everyone - is evil. That would irritate the hell out of me. I swear they read the word "socialised", think of the USSR and have conniptions. For crying out loud, the Democratic Republic of North Korea doesn't send them into fits about living in a democracy or a republic so I don't know why healthcare that would benefit the entire population does.

I think pretty much any contraception is cheaper than a kid! Condoms aren't expensive, and they prevent the pregnancy, the abortion, the STIs, and the sodomy--wait, no, they're recommended for sodomy...:my_biggrin:

We here in Canada just don't understand the hang-ups Americans have about socialized medicine.  While our system certainly isn't perfect, citizens don't live in fear of health care bills and primary health care is available to all residents.

Does anyone still use Crisco as lube?   I think that was big in bathhouses. (Randy Shilts referred to the cans of Crisco in bathhouses in And the Band Played On.)

Fine. I deserved to read that after what I said about Desitin. :laughing-rollingred:

@daisyjane1234 here's one American that is eagerly awaiting socialized medicine. So I don't have to have panic attacks about going bankrupt every time I'm at the ER.

I’m another who is having to save money for my medical bankruptcy lawyer from when I didn’t have insurance and had an accident and illness. I’m avoiding doctors at all costs unless it is a true emergency because thanks to having to be treated on more than one occasion, I’m over $12K in medical debt and my credit is ruined.

The student loans I pay don’t help being on my credit (debt to income ratio) so yes bring on socialized medicine please!

Cringing at bit at the appalling misuse of apostrophes in the post about the Samaritans but more concerned about the abuse of this in terms of the “cash payer” discount. I am no ardent socialist but I will defend our much maligned UK NHS to the hilt. To me, universal healthcare is one hallmark of a civilised society. Yes - it is not 100% perfect and you don’t always get the same level of attention for non-urgent matters as in a purely private system but it is there for anyone that really needs it and I would hate to think of anyone with long term health problems having financial worries added to their predicament. I am so grateful to the wonderful NHS staff who treated my dad’s cancer and his 2 hip replacements so that he still walks the golf course with his cronies in his 80s.

Slightly off topic so should add comments on things which have been discussed in more detail. So (1) Teri’s post for Sarah’s Birthday was just atrocious and the blathering about the lord not having called her the way of marriage, children etc. should have read that her family had never opened that opportunity for her if she had wanted it. (2) It would be better for the family (and indeed the planet) if Steve were to die first and, preferably, soon, because he is a monumental twat. (3)  Chelsy’s baby shower looks ok but I can never get madly excited about these things - didn’t want anything personally until Mini Angel had arrived safely. (4) I hope Melanie’s pregnancy is going ok.

Full admission: I don’t like showers in general. I’m not against showers at all. I think they are nice gestures. I just think most are incredibly boring. The only ones I ever enjoyed were the ones where I knew everyone and just socialized with people I enjoy while ignoring the whole boring present opening thing. The games usually aren’t too interesting either. I tend to like the food ok. But I would rather rip my fingernails off one by one than go to a shower where I know practically no one.

Waving wearily from over here. A darling, darling friend has invited me to her daughter’s bridal shower. I already endured the engagement party.  I’m thinking I’ll arrive, coo fulsomely, hug everyone in sight and leave after a brief stay.  I’m also slightly annoyed that all of a sudden it is another gifting event. Initially we were told it was just a recipe shower.

Ah well, first-insect-nest problems, eh?

Back on topic, I’d been trying to figure who hosted it. Guessing it was a not-a-Maxwell.

Can someone help me?  Are these gummy worms laying on sandwiches?

I just don’t get it.  I’ve seen the “dirt cake” with gummy worms, but I cannot figure out why you’d do this?

It was Melanie and a "neighbor-friend." :my_biggrin: I guess that's different from friend-friend, elderly-friend, or widow-friend...

I saw those too and thought “wtf?” I don’t get it either. My kids love gummy worms in dirt pudding. Maybe it was one of the ABC girls that did it.
