Reading all your pregnant employee stories makes me feel once again like Americans are living in some kind of dystopian, alternative reality. The US is supposed to be an industrial, western world country, damnit! Are you guys, like, okay? Need some hugs? :my_heart:

Send all the hugs. It's the worst, especially for low-income women. Get pregnant unexpectedly and work until your water breaks as you clean toilets? Shame on you, should have planned better and kept your legs closed. Took two weeks off before the birth because you're huge and uncomfortable and your back constantly aches? Shame on you, you lazy good-for-nothing. Didn't use birth control because your crap insurance wouldn't cover it? Shame on you. Used birth control because you can't afford a baby? Shame on you, you slut. Lose your job for needing to recover after a c-section? Shame on you. Deliver vaginally, but need to take an extra week off to recover from a third-degree tear? Shame on you, you should have prepared your body better. Need welfare to feed those babies? Shame on you. Work 70-hour weeks to feed those babies? shame on you, you're not raising your own kids. Have an abortion to avoid both scenarios? Shame on you. Work to feed your family, instead of being a stay-at-home mom? Shame on you. Be a stay-at-home mom instead of working? Shame on you, you should be do both and add to the GDP.

Then they wonder why a growing number of women are opting out of motherhood.

Nine days since the birth. Only one grainy photo of Jill (looking okay to some, but weak/frail/not well to most). All photos appear to be taken in the hospital. Izzy was with the grandparents for a long time (and still might be). No videos from Jill or Derick. None from Jessa or Ben either. No birth story details. No People feature. No mid-episode video clip. Do we all agree there's something going on?

It wouldn't be so weird if it wasn't so utterly unlike every other Duggar (or Bates) birth I can remember.

I'd say PEOPLE exclusive, but Jessa's wasn't issued until months after Henry's birth and we saw him in the meantime.

It is unusual

Just a little ray of sunshine....Minneapolis just passed a $15.00/hr minimum wage. City-wide. It will be fazed in over a few years.  So things may be looking up.  A bit....   Sort of......

Washington did something similar, and just passed a paid maternity leave bill! Getting toward what CA does.

Jana was also said to be a tom boy and a trial by Michelle, so likely she needed a bit more training then Jill who is a people pleaser.

Jill probably saw the way Michelle reacted to Jana's "misbehavior" and was quick to learn do what she says or else.

People has a article up about the nee season of counting on, and there was no mention of the birth of Samuel Scott

eta: I can't play the video. Did he get a mention?

Nope. Just the usual 'we're in Central America and it's so dangerous and it definitely makes you think about what might happen if something goes wrong.' No mention of the birth or the baby at all.

Why did JillDrick choose El Salvador....what am I forgetting. I recently heard twice on TeeVee news that it is the most violent or something country in the world/South America.

So, what? They could have saved people in a safer country.

oh wait.....there are already other pretend missionaries there from their cult,, is that it?

What ARE Gothard teachings on birth complications? Because he taught about everything else. There have to be writings on this. I feel as though every day that goes by with no cute family photo of the 4 of them simply confirms that there were issues. And no photos from Cathy....who ISN'T thinking 8 going on 200 grandkids. This is weird. The baby pics always brought attention i.e. money to the brand. TLC would have arranged something by now.

The only thing I remember for sure is that Cabbage Patch dolls are evil and can stall labour. A woman was trying to give birth at home but the labour wasn't progressing well. They removed all cabbage patch dolls from the house, and the labour miraculously progressed! I think Derick and Jill need to rip their walls apart because clearly there are some demonic toys hidden somewhere in their house.

From the above link

Quote

Christian women who are committed to Godly standards often have greater difficulties during pregnancy and childbirth than other women.

Interesting. Maybe Jill's problems are just because she is so Godly that Satan is targeting her.

I noticed that, too, @Rachel333. There is also a footnote related to that quote:

Quote

The fuller context of this quote reads under the heading, Why may Christians have greater difficulty with morning sickness?, describing how “A group of doctors and midwives who have assisted in the delivery of over five thousand babies agreed on one common characteristic. In their experience, Christian women who are committed to Godly standards often have greater difficulties during pregnancy and childbirth than other women” (Basic Care Bulletin 8, “How to Understand and Treat Morning Sickness,” 5). No citation is offered allowing us to know who these doctors or midwives are or what constituted “Godly standards” in the minds of these health care practitioners.

I didn't have much in the way of morning sickness. I guess I don't have "Godly Standards". :shakehead2: (Tongue in cheek!)

Ah, but @pook, Bill Gothard has never shown any respect for science, causality, logic, or women. ;)

By those standards I must be a fucking Saint. Or whatever the Gothard equivalent is.

Actual LOLZ at the Godly Standards.  I did much of my training in a tertiary hospital where we got referred all the difficult cases.  We must have missed all those Godly Standards as the common feature with those women. Lots of them were Hindu or Muslim though, so I assume their Godly Standards were leading them to have difficult pregnancies too?

@ViolaSebastian PREACH!!

I'm literally saving that post to my phone, for the next time I hear shameful comments by ignorant peeps with a lack of empathy :S

Also. I needed to have IV fluids and meds in both of my full term pregnancies.  Glad to know my consolation prize for the vomit and nausea and weight loss is me having high Godly standards *eyeroll*

Jessa posted a video on TLC.com about congrats to Jill.

Tells a story that Israel thought the baby was Henry

That video makes me even more concerned about Jill. Jessa is saying all the things that Jill would usually be saying (the baby's weight, how Israel reacted, etc.). It's like Jill isn't able/willing to make the video herself, so they had Jessa stand in for her.

Now I'm thinking about how the place where I work doesn't have disability leave. I wonder what their maternity leave policy is...

ETA: I just looked it up. Maternity leave is part of sick leave...so you could potentially have like two weeks off, then either go back to work or take unpaid leave.

I'm living in the socialist hellhole that is Seattle (according to the host of a show on Fox Business the other day) so I probably just need like one hug. Spread the rest around to the residents of the utopian red states. I know, I know, you don't have to say it...I'm showing what a socialist monster Seattleite I am by not hogging all the hugs for myself.
