Here is a link to the floor plan of the duggar house

....

I've never seen this before - what the heck is a mechanical room and goodbye room? Where did josh stay?

I watched the original specials but had 3 boys pretty close in age and missed most of the series. So forgive my ignorance on this!

He is.

Anna knows this better than anyone.  While she will let him back, I can't imagine her ever fully trusting him and all sorts of things will be running through her head when he's out of her sight for more than an hour.

He's a wonderful liar and has made it clear he wants to live his life the way he wants to live it and cares not a bit about any collateral damage he causes.  There is no rehab for this.

A mechanical room is for hvac, water heaters, electrical panels, etc. particularly in a house with no basement.

A goodbye room appears to be something like what many would call a mud room.  Note it has a door to the outside.  A place for kids to take off coats and muddy shoes rather than have them come in the front door and mess up the formal living area.

Some speculated that Josh slept in the studio, but I've never seen any evidence of a bed there.

The studio room wasn't really large enough for a bed and it was always shown with desks and computers and no glimpse of a bed.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I leaved in a Brooklyn apartment most of my life... So that might explain why I haven't heard those terms.

I think she will truly in her heart pray the evil away whenever she starts to doubt. Because God knows her heart, and she will pray for peace and understanding and all that happy horse shit. I think it will be less worrying what HE'S doing, and more worrying about what's in HER heart.

This is gross, but Josh must have gotten tested.  Wonder how THAT was arranged.

I highly doubt he was tested for anything. I am not sure it would even occur to Anna to get herself tested. She has been so tightly controlled her entire life that she may not even know that if Josh catches something he can give it to her. The spread of sexually transmitted diseases is not something a fundy would never be taught or believe they would need to know.

One learns to be a liar very quickly in a fundie household; it becomes a way of life. You have to be constantly lying either to yourself, or to others, often a mix of both. It's a survival mechanism, trying to secretly preserve something of your humanity and not entirely turn into an android, while simultaneously trying to convince yourself that you believe all the bullshit and you're among the chosen ones. It's so easy for a Josh-esque dichotomy to be built, you're literally raised to live with a mask on.

I disagree, they are probably taught all the wordly heathens outside of ATI immediately catch diseases when the have sex out of wedlock.

I'm sure she will.  But she is human and I can't see her ever fully overcoming her distrust.

Just watched that clip and I guess we can safely say that she's not going to leave Josh...and to hear Jinger say Anna shows all of us what it means to have unconditional love :my_sad:  I'm slowly losing my faith in these women...:pb_cry:

I think its quite obvious through her use of "we" and "our" during the whole thing. She is still thinking of them as a unit. She still sees them together. I feel very bad for her, but she is making her choice.

When someone uses "pussy" as an insult, I think of something I heard once.

"You are not a pussy.  Pussies are strong and bring life into this world.  You, sir, are a ball sack."

Thank you for that. It was my resolution to stop using the p-word as an insult (making me a bad feminist and girl lover). Ball sack is perfect.

I don't think it has anything to do with where you've lived.  I've lived in several homes of varying sizes in suburbia and never heard "goodbye room" until the Duggars.  There is an episode where Boob explains it, so they pretty much made it up.  If we had a small room just off of a back door we called it a "mud room".   "Maintenance Rooms" are usually in larger buildings and not homes.  We called it a "utility room or closet" depending on size.

I found a link to an article the other day that claimed she went to get tested when it came out. not sure if this was the exact one I had linked but it's one of them. http://www.intouchweekly.com/posts/anna-duggar-josh-cheating-stds-79477

I wish I could like this more than once. People who weren't raised in the kind of super controlling high stakes environment of a cult don't seem to get that there are only two choices - drink the kool aid, or lie. And if you dont believe, and can't or won't buy in to the lies you have told yourself about believing, the lies you have to consciously tell or live out are not just about what you did or didn't do, they are about what and how you think. Who you are.  Basically, everything that you are putting out to the family and/or community becomes a lie. Your whole self is wreathed in a minefield of distrust and untruth, and it isn't safe to let anyone know what lies beneath the keep sweet persona. I grew up in a world where one mistep could have been disasterous (for me), and the one thing I learned, above everything else, was how to look someone in the eyes and straight out lie. It was almost reflexive for a few years after I found my way to the real world, and I can still do it at a very high level, but I try not to as the need isn't there anymore - besides, I firmly believe that lies cause wrinkles :kitty-wink:

I wasn't speaking of the family sugarcoating the molestations. I meant everyone else.

Anna needs to leave because Josh is a child molester, and she has 4 kids to think about. And anybody who thinks Josh's victim count is only 5, they are seriously deluded. The same applies to those who think Josh's actions are due to his upbringing. That's a cop out.

why? Is there no such thing as a molester who has only five victims?

I mean, he was a sheltered kid with very little contact with other girls. Five seems possible, indeed, likely.

If he was 55 with a lifetime of molesting behind him, I might question the number 5, but not for a 27 year old who has spent most of his life being homeschooled at home

Five young girls molested is bad enough. We don't have to increase the number without evidence to make Josh "worse." I think molesting five girls is plenty worse.

I also think that his actions could be the result of his upbringing AND also feel that he is entirely responsible for them. Both things can exist at once. Most criminals had crappy upbringing and still go to jail.

I can completely understand Anna wanting to save her marriage after Josh cheated. People work through infidelity all the time. I don't think I could do it but I get it. What I cannot understand is why anyone would want to be married to someone who molested a child. To me, the two are completely different situations. I couldn't stay in that marriage even if I didn't have kids. How do you ever look at a person the same way after finding that out? I am in the camp that Anna was told little, if anything, about the molestation before marriage. Whatever she was told was likely sanitized to the point of something we would think of as normal teenage behavior such as front hugging a girl or maybe kissing a girl. The fact she now knows all about the molestation and is still with Josh makes me believe that he has free reign to do whatever he wants to her or anyone and she will never leave. Anna may be hurt by it but she will stand by Josh.

Anna's answer about staying with Smuggar came off VERY defensive and angry at others thinking she should leave. I could see fire in her eyes. She seems more mad at the public and the media wanting her to leave than at Josh himself! Also, I'm very disappointed that she referred to the molestations as "Josh's teenage choices." JB & Michelle are keeping her in her home in the girls' room to brainwash her. The way Anna was smiling and talking about how she misses Josh sounds like she is either under some heavy drugs or we are seeing serious brainwashing in action.

Easier to lash out at other people than say what you're really feeling.

Let's be real - she could have walked in on him beating off to porn or nailing a hooker and she wouldn't leave. If you don't leave when your man fingers his five year old sister, you ain't gonna leave.
