Adam, Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel, Ephraim, Frankincense, Gideon...

"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"

I actually like this movie. And when Adam's wife has her baby, she names her Hannah.

{L_MESSAGE_HIDDEN}:
I think I would go with puritan names. THere is just something about the name "If-Christ-had-not-died-for-thee-thou-hadst-been-damned" or "Fight the good fight of faith". Could you imagine?

There's a romance novel series I enjoy, the heroes are brothers with this naming premise. /cough

Anyway. If I had a bunch of kids with my husband, they'd be named:

Jessica, Kay, Susan, Alexander, Ryan, Amanda, Douglas, Leigh, Adam, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Valerie, George, Alice, Louise, and maybe an Arthur.

What I would do is go with the tradition of being given a letter and then naming them with a Hindu name that's not hard to say in English. Something like Aanya, Rhea, Saraswati and call her Sara for a girl. Something short and not to hard to pronounce in English like Arun for a boy.

I like the name Kiran a lot.

I guess it would depend on what flavor of fundy I was. If I were the Catholic mother of 12, I am pretty sure I'd go with old-school saint names: Scholastica, Agilberta, Wolfgang. etc. If I were a quasi-protestant frumper fundy, I'd probably default to Puritan virtue names: Silence, Patience, Notwithstanding, Endurance, etc.

If I was a fundie I would either go with the virtue names or flower names for girls, probably the names of the disciples for boys.

If I was going to have eleventy kids I would definitely want a theme, but not a letter or a rhyme.

Catholic fundie names I thought of, Ignatious, Aquinas, Agustine, Benedict, Delphinious, Simplicus, Polykarp, Sorrow, and Margaret.

Silence tickled my funny bone.

I love the old-fashioned, Puritan names - Prudence, Patience, Temperance - and any variation of Anne - Ana, Anneliese, Anna, Anna-Marie. But I think the problem with naming kids after virtues is that you just know the kid named Temperance is going to spend half her life in AA, the kid named Patience will have severe ADHD, Humility will become very famous for a sex tape, etc. I once knew a kid named Stone who had a speech delay, and whenever he was driving me particularly crazy I thought 'what are you, dumb as a rock?' And then I'd feel terrible.

I kind of think that Scholastica would be straight-up awesome. At least once your classmates stopped calling you Lassie.

My boyfriend does not like many of the male Hindu names, so looks like we need to have girls so the children will have names

Oh, and I meant Christian, not Christina. Habit to write Christina.

Something that conflates conservative Christianity with American-style capitalism. So something like Faith Free-Market for a girl and Elijah Small-Government for a boy.

If I were super fundy I'd probably be the type to go for all biblical names. Ruth, Esther, Mary, Elizabeth Matthew MArk Luke and John ect.

I dated a PK (preacher's kid) in high school, who had nine brothers and one sister. I'd often volunteer to baby-sit (goodness gracious, his mother must have needed it!) and I didn't really know all their names and couldn't really tell them apart. So when I called them, I'd just locate the girl, whose name was Mary (not actual name, but something similar and Biblical) and then just start listing off various apostles until they all came in for dinner.

If I had a metric buttload of children, I'd probably go with outlandish, a la Braderick! I actually really like the name Geneva (I have an ancestor named that), but now I can only think of Geneva Convention and the Tool when I hear it. As much as I dislike John Shrader, I do think he and Esther have a cute thing going with the Greek names for their little girls. So perhaps a theme would be more my speed.

I knew someone who named her daughter Philosophy and called her Sophy. My boys have OT biblical first names. My daughter has a sort of old fashioned name...that I got hooked on because of a certain character on a TV show. My name is a string of family names...I am named for both grandmothers and my mother. Fortunately my father signed the birth certificate, so legally my name is quite a bit shorter and matched with a very German last name. My married last name is garden-variety and I like it that way!

I looked up some of my Puritan ancestors and found one large family with the children named as follows: Amos, William, Hezekiah, Nathan, Rebecca, Elisha, Abigail, and Submit (girl, of course).

Going back another few generations, I found (all one sibling group): Margaret, John, Mary, Thomas, Sarah, Mercy, Ebenezer, David, and Mehitabel.

i know a fundie Blessing. This is a friend's daughter, and i just cringed when i heard that's what they chose. Just too out there imo, even if it is a nice noun. That's going to look odd on a resume, if she ever has one. What other options are open to her besides a wife and mom? Also i don't think this friend is very concerned about her daughter's education. Makes me almost sick with pity for the little girl.

It does seem like some fundie parents want to fence their kids in with the names, especially some Mennonite parents who seem to pick out-of-fashion names on purpose. Bertha, Wilfred, Delores, Edna, Delvin, Delmar, Eugene, Frances. You just have to look at the "New Babies" pages in Keepers at Home magazine amazon.com/Keepers-at-Home/dp/B000BT4GR8

There are about 10 pages of tiny print in every issue. Not kidding! Usually the brothers/sisters of the new baby will be listed too.

We thought it was important for our children to have a name from our own culture. Our background, as a couple, is Welsh-Irish-Scottish and all our children have names that reflect this. Being a fundy would not change this so our children would have names like Ceiron, Sean, Alasdair, Erin, Bridget, Myfanwy, etc.

Middle names however, would be biblical. My fundy sons: Daniel, Jacob, Levi, Jesse, Seth, Isaac, Benjamin, Samuel, Thomas ... Old Testament but simple sounding names. I don't like complicated names like Nehemiah or Isaiah. My fundy daughters: Rachael, Sarah, Elizabeth, Abigail, Naomi, Susannah, Rebekah, Miriam, Leah, Phoebe, Tabitha. I would have to read up and check I wasn't naming them after an inappropriate character. I love the name Sapphira but it's not someone I want to name my daughter after. There are probably a few in the above list I wouldn't actual use either.

I think I'd go with nature names, with a virtue name for the middle - I do think those are kind of awesome. And I'll have the first and middle name start with the same letter.

So for my mythical gigantic family:

Girls: Lily Love, Rose Remembrance, Jasmine Joy, Daisy Devotion, Fern Faith,

Camilla Caring, Poppy Peace, Violet Victory, Iris Independence, Pansy Patience, Marguerite Modesty, Hyacinth Honesty, Blossom Blessing, Posey Prudence

For the Boys I'm going to reverse it:

River Respect, Stone Solidarity, Aspen Aligence, Bay Benevolence, Lake Loyalty,

Reed Reverence, Jasper Justice.......the boy names really are tortured.

If they decide not to be fundies I think they will do just as well as hippies or porn stars. Or Politicians. I actually like a lot of those......

IF I was ever a fundie then something has sparked out in my brain ...

I'd in my sparkiness go with G names after the Almighty.

Godley first born son. Goddess first born daughter. Godden, Goddette, Godda, Godbey, Godenza, Godoria, Godrew, Godzel, Godarius, Godom (he's precious) I figure after 10 the godly womble packs up ..Amen.

My daughter's middle name is Blessing. I wanted a virtue name, but since I didn't know her personality, I wouldn't want a pessimistic Hope, a clumsy Grace, or a cynical Faith. I figured no matter what she was, she'd always be a blessing.

Hmm well if I wasn't going with a letter theme like the Duggars then Elijah, Gabriel, Sarah, Rebecca, Naomi, Matthew, Jude, Miriam, Luke, Zachariah, Thomas, Matthias, Noah, Rachel, Moriah, Selah. I have a Michaela, an Abigail and a Bethany so I do like Biblical names. I always said if I had another boy he would have been named Elijah or Gabriel. I always thought if I was going with a letter theme I could have done better than the Duggars. If I did "J" names there would have been a Julia, Josephine, Jude, Jake, Jane, Janelle, Janice, Janet, Jared, Jay, Jeff, Jerry, Jillian, Jody, Joel, Jolene, Jonah, Julian, or Jules in there. I certainly could have came up with something better than Jinger.
