My dad was big on Cain for some bizarre reason, he doesn't seem to like any of the others and I predict he'll have to hold his nose in November.

So will I, but for different reasons, I don't really like Obama anymore.

Remember, Huckabee won here last time and look where it got him. If I'm not mistaken, Romney is doing better than last time.

I'm kind of amazed that the top three tonight are a Catholic, a Mormon, and a libertarian. Republicans! You boggle my mind!

If Ike returned to the land of the living today would he even recognize the Republican party? I don't think so.

Hell, Nixon wouldn't either.

Huckabee and Pat Robertson also won Iowa.

This is why the results tonight really don't mean a whole lot.

I'm pretty sure that in the end, it will be Romney who wins the nomination. Of the whole bunch of weirdos in the GOP running, he's the most "normal." But none of them have a chance against Obama and Obama will get a 2nd term. Still, the crazy is fun to watch.

Santorum basically said that Obama is just like Mussolini, and Romney is being pretty obnoxious, too. Santorum is up by all of 5 votes.

The normal thing is exactly what my mother said about Romney earlier tonight. Of course, it's all relative. Here's what Santorum said about birth control just last October:

“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country…. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.â€

Not normal.

Oh, yeah. Santorum's a nightmare. His vision for America is perfectly exemplified by the Duggars support of his candidacy. Plus, I friggin' hate the people who seriously take the position that "There's no moral abortion but my (or my wife's) moral abortion".

Most of them have such extreme viewpoints. The good thing about Santorum (in this context) is that he will open his mouth and share his viewpoints, and if he wins tonight, those viewpoints will get a lot more attention than they have been lately. So he will then sink back down into the depths and GOP pundits will once again fantasize that Chris Christie will ride in on his fortified white horse to save the day. (Although I find the thought of Chris Christie achieving mass appeal hilarious too).

As of right now CNN is projecting Romney as the winner. I don't know where the nickname Mittens came from but from now on I'm referring to Romney as Mittens. 8 freaking votes separate him and Santorum. EIGHT.

I don't know why that blows my mind. I guess it was because I was counting Santorum out.

Well it looks like Romney won (barely). I guess the Duggar endorsement wasn't effective enough.

Edit: Yeah, it really shocked me that Santorum is a serious candidate now. I did not expect that at all.

Romney used to be the governor of my state (Mass.), funny how he never mentions his time in Massachusetts? Probably because he was always on vacation OUT OF STATE and never around. He also ensured that everyone MUST have health insurance, even if you can't afford it. And if you don't have health insurance, you get penalized on your income taxes. Mitten Romney is a major, major douche. If he becomes President, we're all fucked. *End Rant*.

Doing well in the Iowa caucuses does not a serious candidate make.

He doesn't mention Massachusetts because he is trying to win the nomination of a new type of Republican party that think Massachusetts = Socialist.

So if you don't have health insurance, but still get sick, what do you do for care? Do you just go to the emergency room for treatment, and get billed for it? A bill that many, if not most people won't pay, and the state will wind up paying for your medical care anyways? If you "can't afford insurance" how the heck do you suppose you'll pay for your medical bills? And, "I just don't get sick" doesn't work as an answer. Because someone always has to pay, and most of the time, it's the other taxpayers. Mandatory insurance requirements at least recovers some of this from hospital bill dodgers.
