Pastor meets rapper. And that Facebook page is one long plea for donations. He might do better if his posts were a little less negative.

Damn it, Gary! I want my "supper bowel!" How dare you just say "football?"

Some comments are predictable, some are more passionate than others, some try to be cute, and some are on a completely different subject (the earthquake in Turkey). Oh, and Gary gets in a fight. A sampling:

Most of the people commenting sound so petty and self righteous. Not interested in any exchange of ideas just utterly convinced they have the only correct viewpoint. They must be very boring to be around.

More self-righteous, cutesy, and just plain incomprehensible comments have been posted.

Sounds like this guy is a Seventh Day Adventist, but he and Gary could bond over grammar and spelling:

Lee is OK with it. Van seems to be ready to combine preaching and football, but I think William misunderstood:

These people are all morons and I weep for how willfully stupid so many people are in this country.

Also it's pretty ironic that several of them are all "No they are disrespecting the flag and the anthem!" when sportsball games are just about the ONLY place the anthem is regularly sung or the flag saluted, other than military or occasional government events.

and the US Department of Defense used to PAY for the patriotic promotion at NFL games. so like, they probably want Ma and Pa Kettle watching.

And they're still going! How did Gary get this many people to even notice his post?

Mary Jo has combining church, fellowship and football, while avoiding the dreaded half-time, all figured out.

I think Cory is talking about a Nerf football. Not bad, as cutesy comments go.

There are, admittedly, many things I don't understand about Gary.  The one I'm stuck on today is his cherry-picking about the evils of "the world".  Isn't Chinese food of "the world"?  What about trucks?  Trump MAGA hats?  If Gary wanted to be a full-on ascetic, I could understand.  He could sit out in the wilderness in a robe and rant about the evil of the world all he wanted.  What he seems to mean instead is that he believes that God hates whatever society as a whole embraces.  That doesn't make Gary the bestest Christian ever.  It just makes him a contrarian and a hypocrite.

I think this makes Jesus an abomination

kuva.png.c120bac30ea8e9b93fbf8e06c012b434.png

So what? God's thought process goes like this?

God: "Hey, angels, basketball, yea or nay? we gotta decide now."
Angel: "I think a lot of people like it."

God: "Oh really? Then it must be an abomination."

Gary put up a new Facebook post.

I'm not sure which king he means.  I doubt that Charles is eager to see most of us and Elvis is dead.  If he is promising that Jesus is returning, people have been saying that for at least the last 75 years.  At this point, I'd need to see Him descending on a cloud before I'd believe it.

Somebody as racist as Gary quoting an African American spiritual/gospel music is wrong. I know he's a Christian and it's Christian music, but there are still deep divisions along racial lines between Christians. It's Gary so I'm sure he wouldn't care.

I’m going to beat a dead horse. I used to go to a southern Baptist church, a fairly large one and it started leaning more to the fundamental, judge mental and then trump. My faith was severely messed up and we left. We now go to such a fun episcopal church. They have game sundays and tea parties and joke about bringing flasks. They fellowship and work together . My boys are learning to be acolytes and my daughter loves her Sunday school teacher. When the World Cup was on, they turned the game on in the Sunday school room and the boys grabbed all their snacks and hung out at church for nearly an hour after service watching the game. Maybe about… 10-12 kids? All enjoying the game, enjoying fellowship and feeling comfortable in the church.
my kids are older and I won’t force them to go to church every week but it makes me tear up when they really want to be there and letting them watch a game with their friends helps them want to go ‘for the kneeling stuff’ 😂

Not a dead horse - a fresh perspective and a fine description of how a place of worship is also a gathering place to share the company of other people, to be inspired, moved, and (yes, Gary) entertained.

As an atheist, I still have very warm, sentimental memories of gatherings at the synagogue we went to when I was a kid. There was fun, singing, beautiful stained glass, singing, my Mom enjoying it and my Dad being polite during the parts that bored him as much as they did me, singing, food,  emotion, singing, friends, learning interesting stuff, and did I mention singing?

I think my mother's religion is Judaism, my father's was worshiping my mother, my brother's is socializing, and mine is music. But we found it all in that building.

If only there were dogs there, it would have been perfect.

Gary posted the advertisement for the "college" again, and this:

Quote

Ok folks the LORD is soon coming. We better be ready. When HE comes no more chances.

No supper bowel, damn it.

The Natural Man? I guess he's admitting that these jokers who think they're "saved" are unnatural.

In any case this natural woman knows how to spell and what to capitalize.

Also, song cue! And another song cue! Lou and Aretha, comfort us unsaved natural people.

Someone schooled Gary under his post about not going to hell:

Quote

Not going to Hell is not the priority according to Jesus. It is the icing on the cake but to be more like Him each day is what He calls us to. This world needs to see Jesus in us!

"Not going to hell is the icing on the cake" has potential - a line in a song, a tee-shirt, a cross stitch, or a pillow for Jill, perhaps?

I kind of liked this reply from Henry:  "Praise God,'I have been BLOOD WASHED,BORN AGAIN , SPIRIT FILLED,And I Am, HEAVEN BOUND with the HAMMER DOWN.IAm Not Going To HELL!!!!"  Old Henry isn't just going to Heaven -- he's got the hammer down and he's driving there.  I am enjoying the image of a car speeding straight up through the skies.

Unfortunately, Gary didn’t say it so it can’t be included in the ever-expanding list of Garyisms.

So, Gary, where else would the commercials be, if not on TV?

My mother mentioned that there were ads for Jesus, when I was regaling her with Gary stories this morning. More info at the link below.
