My cousin used to be a TV news producer - she got out of the business just before Trump's election run, which was a good move IMO. She explained to us once that the reason the "on the street" interviews with people are generally so stupid is because most of the smart people don't really want to participate but the dumb ones are the loudest ones trying to get on camera. 

Apparently that also applies to news anchors, at Fox.

It seems the stupider a person is, the louder and more emphatic they are.
