I'm a few pages behind, but I'm a guy who carries around everything I might need in a laptop bag.

Edit: oh I see we're now on sharing Christmas songs for Maxrepellant!

Okay then I have just the thing

Yes! And how could I forget Merry Fucking Christmas and other delights from South Park?

That is the most beautiful moving song.  I am shocked the PP has not adopted it as his theme song for soul winning!  ?

YES, my favorite. PS I Love You is my all time favorite movie and this song bring some smiles to the funeral scene ?

of course there's a list of who they missed!

I'd politely decline and shut the door.

I’d ignore the doorbell.

A lot of Christmas songs must be verboten in the Maxwell home:

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas—you should be PRAYING for a white Christmas!

Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town...unscheduled?!?

Frosty the Snowman—doesn’t even know where he’s going when he melts!

With apologies to Irving Berlin (and Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Marjorie Reynolds, Virginia Dale, Bing Crosby again, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen):

I'm planning for a sad Christmas,

Just like the ones we always spend.

Where Dad’s crazed eyes glisten, and we all listen,

To hear all about life’s end.

I'm bracing for a tense Christmas,

With every 15 minutes planned.

Rigid days at parents’ command,

Even all our Christmases are bland.

Even today's post had to reference death:           But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the
form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself,
and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Philippians 2:7-8

Steve, it's Christmas, you shmuck, not Good Friday!

@thoughtful,  I've always loved that first time in Holiday Inn where Bing and Marjorie sing White Christmas and Bing hits the bells on the tree with his pipe.

@PennySycamore, I agree. It's a flawed movie in many ways (blackface scene? eeek!), but it has a lot of nice moments, my beloved Fred and his firecrackers, and, yes, a lovely first outing for the now-classic song White Christmas.

I am no bible scholar, although I did read it once. Aren't there any verses or themes about living, life, love, happiness, joy? Any of those things? Any words from their god about the here and now that don't condemn you to an eternity worshipping a vengeful, narcissistic deity?

I didn’t even take notice of the Bible verse at first, but that does seem bizarre and somewhat depressing. Why not a quote from the Nativity narrative?

it's Steve.  hope, joy, being in the moment...not his thing.

I’m sure the underlying doom really helped Teri’s mental health over the years.

I almost wonder if that’s not why he’s cling to this so hard ... not to increase her distress intentionally (although I doubt he cared if it did) but as his way to make a marriage work with someone who didn’t want what he did and who had mental health issues he couldn’t handle.

His weird thing about dovorce wouldn’t let him leave, so scarred by his parents, so he crafted a world he controlled because he couldn’t leave.

imagine what Steve would have been life with someone with the temperament of a Michelle Dugger.  Her facade aside, she’s no follower - she runs that show.

I try very hard not to image snark and the Maxwell women are very very pretty in person, but WTF is going on with Anna’s hair in the Christmas post?
