Good for you!   :happy-partydance:  After watching the new Handmaid's Tale this week, I'm appreciating even more that we can make our decisions about fertility!

Lori is promoting this woman on IG.

http://themotherscompanion.org/

Anyone familiar with her? Lori says she raised 9 kids in small house and quoted her saying no matter how desperate your finances you can stay home!

  1. Never heard of her, but she has a fairly large internet footprint.  Here is another website: http://helenaardsma.com/
  2. She says she has 10 kids, just fyi
  3. That site shows all the business ventures they have
  4. She is married to a dr.
  5. I imagine Lori will be plagerizing her in no time
  6. I have no idea why this is in list format, but I'm too lazy to fix it :)

@Curious

A doctor, hmmmm,...of course she is! So easy to tell other to stay home no matter how dire your finances when married to a doctor.

Chiming in on the side of 'do your prescription research,' I'm one of those annoying people who instantly jumps online when I or a loved one is prescribed something new. However, I always stay on page one of the google results, and I never click on an ad or on anything that looks like some whackadoo is going to sell me something at the end of a long Big Pharma diatribe against the drug I'm researching. I find that going to either the drug manufacturer's site, or to WebMD or the Mayo Clinic site, will give me all the legit information I need to make my decision on whether to take said drug or not. I also talk to my pharmacist, with whom I'm on a first-name basis, just to be extra safe. He has never once steered me wrong, bless him.

I would chime in and agree w/ others that you should never be afraid to do some research on your medications.  When my doctor first prescribed the medication for my allergic reaction, she did not tell me that it was also prescribed to patients with anxiety.  I learned that when I Googled it.

I shudder to think that I could have gone off the medication once my allergic reaction resolved, never making the connection between that one weird time I was on meds for an allergic reaction and also seemed notably less worried.

That one Google search was a game changer for me.

I also agree with those who encourage checking in with the pharmacist, especially if you are on multiple medications/have multiple doctors.  I will call up my local pharmacist in a heartbeat if I have questions about my medicine or any possible interactions.  I also double check to make sure any new meds are okay with what I am already on.  I trust the doctors, but when it comes to meds, I trust the pharmacist even more.

It was outpatient and very quick. The surgery itself was only 45 minutes. I feel fine now. My best friend had the same surgery in February and had no issues. I’m allowed to go back to work on Tuesday. I’m excited to never have to worry about birth control again. That chapter of my life (fertility) is closed and I’m really happy about it.

I had mine done immediately after the birth of my second child and never regretted it for an instant.  I love my kids, but two was plenty.  I'm glad I never had to worry about BC for most of my adult life.

I waited until 9 years after my daughter was born. Which was 9 years too long. Mine were done December 2016 and I am so happy with my decision. Out patient. In and out of the hospital in 6 hours.

I've had doctors give legitimately wrong information regarding drugs they were prescribing for me.  One told me the antidepressant she was prescribing for me was sustained release (it wasn't) and that if was perfectly fine to cut a SR tablet in half (it isn't).  Another prescribed a medication whose side effects worsened a number of conditions I already suffer from.  I NEVER trust what the doctor tells me; I always do my own research before I take any prescriotion.

I tend to research medications quite often. If I have a client on a certain medication it's important for me to know potential side effects. Because mental health is so connected to physical health, it's important to be aware. If a medication causes sleeplessness then I want want to be aware of how that may affect say, their depression or anxiety. If I see an increase in anxiety after starting a new medicine then I want to look into that. So I choose carefully what sites I use and acknowledge my limitations in understanding. I alway encourage  them to communicate with doctors and pharmacists.

I don’t have children. My first doctor was really opposed to my request. I went to my best friend’s doctor and she was so supportive. I want a doctor who respects my reproductive choices and believe women when they say what they want.

also, the procedure they use now (tube removal rather than ligation) decreases risk of ovarian cancer later on. Win win!

I'm glad you were able to find a doctor that respects your choices.  I got a little push back, but it was more of the "You'd better be sure, because when I do this surgery, it stays DONE!" from the surgeon rather than the, "Oh, you're too young; what if you change your mind?" kind.

That push back, to some degree, seems reasonable. The condescending kind is the worst. I got that from the first doctor and got it from my HR person at work which is unfortunate. I read a lot on he childfree Reddit about how to handle that kind of stuff. It was really helpful for me.

@jerkit- Congratulations on your surgery!  You seem really happy about it, and I am glad you found a doctor willing to do it for you.

Hope you have an easy recovery!

I will chime in with the others who have opted for permanent sterilization (my husband had a vasectomy), and we have never regretted it.  Very happy with our decision.

Don't let anyone make you feel bad- you know what's right for you!

So, it seems to me that Lori and Ken are not only fixated on sex, but that they are also actively seeking to fixate others on sex.  It is essentially thought porn. No magazines or videos needed.  Just get married and objectify one woman (instead of many) for the rest of your life!

A wedding ring does not make objectifying a person into a sex object something other than lust.

Does the tubal affect your periods or anything?

No. They remove only the Fallopian tubes, not ovaries or uterus.

However, when my surgeon got in there, she noticed I had some endometriosis. It was minor and I didn’t even know I had it. She removed it and she said my periods may lighten up because of it.

It's not just Kenori...Fundies in general are fixated on sex. Who's doing it, what they're doing, is it "natural" or not, all that shit. These looney birds swear they want "smaller government"...yeah, smaller all right...small enough to fit in everyone's bedroom and doctor's office.

Every time Lori writes about sex, I want to comment but am never sure my thoughts will come out correctly. Here goes...

Lori can write "to women" all she wants when it comes to her nourishing meals and her tidy homes; but when it comes to sex, it is JUST WRONG to make it a "wives only" issue.

I cannot comprehend how these people think you can discuss any sort of sex life (let alone a healthy one) without speaking to both spouses.

I Corinthians 7:5 is CLEARLY addressing both spouses when Paul writes to the church about this:

(KJV) Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

For Ken and Lori to emphasize the woman's responsibility in this and not the man's is just one of their dozens of ways that they taint scripture. NOWHERE in the Bible does it say that a man's sexual needs are more important than a woman's.

In fact, though it may be scientifically true, NOWHERE in the Bible is it mentioned that a man has ten times more testosterone than a woman. Lori loves to bash science all the time but marches this little tidbit out weekly. She only embraces science when she wants to prove that her man is nothing more than a bumbling walking erection that cannot control himself.

Reading Song of Solomon would show these idiots that sex is indeed meant for mutual pleasure. But Paul did not write that, so I assume they pretend it does not exist.

It sickens me every time they write about how a wife has to "give sex" to her husband. Ken's comments on the most recent post are especially heinous.

I'm late to the prescription talk but I can't agree more with @Curious and everyone else who understands the importance of researching your meds. Anyone who's had to deal with long-term, serious, or chronic health issues knows that researching and advocating for yourself is paramount.

Case in point, I went to an E.R. today. I already knew my issue and essentially just needed an MD to write my labs. He wasn't listening to what I know I need. He made an attempt at a shortcut and prescribed something that would cause anaphylaxis. He was new and hadn't even glanced at my chart and read the very, very long list of allergies. He could have saved us both some time discussing my best treatment if he had just done his job. He was on the verge of getting pissy, thinking that I was being just another know-it-all pushy patient. He read my chart, started listening, and things got a whole lot better for both of us. The best part is that I had to pay out of pocket to have this jerk try and kill me. I have to somehow stay alive without insurance until the end of the year. Sometimes I really hate this country. Apologies for being a Debbie Downer. Thanks for letting me get it out.

Big shout out to @jerkit! Congrats on the tubal. Had mine at 21 and never looked back.

Mine did not have any effect on my periods.  It was outpatient but I react oddly to anesthesia (red head metabolism) and it seems like I stayed in the recovery room longer than many of the other people that were recovering.  But I didn't have any side effects at all from the surgery.  But it was a while back, my tubes were cauterized so I don't know if that would be considered removed or not?

All drugs have their own manufacturer's website.  You don't have to go find some whackado website.  If you type in the name of your med, very likely the first link is going to be to the actual manufacturer.

THIS. The first thing I do is read the manufacturer insert. I have used a drug interaction website. I also subscribe to FDA notification of recalls and label updates. I just "researched" statins after your earlier comment about them, Curious. My drug regimen has definitely changed for the better because of my oversight.  It's about taking an active role in your health care, not falling prey to woo and foolishness. Knowledge is power.
