Meh. Not impressed at all with that "statement." There's a lot of wiggle room for him being held accountable for the things he did. It's vague - was the porn watching the unfaithfulness (BS) or did the porn watching lead to physical unfaithfulness (BS cop-out blaming it on teh ebil pron industry)?

Also totally knew JB and Michelle would claim to be totally surprised (they actually might have been totally surprised...fundie parents IME tend to be extra naive when it comes to ignoring or overlooking the faults of their precious first fruits).

Anna won't do anything. She can't after that statement. It was sufficiently contrite for their community to justify denying her moral support if she did choose to leave him. Plus, it plays a very vogue fundie trump card these days: porn addiction. I have no idea why but that seems to be some big thing with fundies these days...like pity the poor men who fall victim to porn. It seems to be a very big get out of jail free card for cheating husbands in the fundie world. "It was the porn that made me do it!" More of the same from the people who brought us the notion that all men are dispossessed of all self-control at the sight of a woman's bare shoulder or kneecap.

In other words, I've always thought that Anna was very pretty. Why would he cheat on her? Especially since she sees her only career in life besides being a mother is to be a helpmeet to Josh. She's been taught to basically worship the ground he walks on. Why would he stray from her?

Because cheating isn't at all about how pretty or attractive or good a wife is. It's not about the wife at all, most of the time! It's about the cheater. The cheater is lacking something in his/her own life. Sure, sometimes a relationship has broken down or developed some fault lines, but a bad relationship does not force someone to cheat. Bottom line -- JOSH fucked up. JOSH is a cheater.

As with others, I found his list of wants sad. He WANTS an equal partner -- a friend, a lover, a real relationship. What he GOT was a broodmare (that is not casting aspersions on Anna. It's how these people see women.) It's much like patriarchy of old -- men married women for strategic reasons. The women they loved were not their wives but their mistresses.

Consider this: Josh's mentioning of porn addiction could also be his way of softening the blow on Anna. It turns it into his dark little problem instead of saying anything that would allow Anna to think, "I wasn't pretty or sexy enough so my husband strayed..." most victims do find a way to blame themselves.

Not only do Christians believe viewing porn is just as bad as actually cheating, he could be trying to make it all about HIS faults while saving his wife from the self-accusations.

Just a thought. I don't care for the guy, but deep down I believe he cares for Anna and has to feel so ashamed. I hope.

That's what always gets me about Josh, much like other fundies, that in confessing wrong, the No. 1 person they admit that they hurt / disappointed hurt was god or Jesus and not the flesh and blood wife and family standing right there.

It's easier to focus on how you hurt Jesus since he's always going to forgive you and he's not standing in front of you with a look of devastation and eyes swollen shut from the kind of ugly cry you can only do when your heart is shattered. And his babies aren't asking why Jesus is crying like they are about their mommy. And Jesus already knows every bad thing he was going to do before he did it, where he gets to watch how much pain this causes the very real people in his life. Mostly Anna and the kids, but his siblings too who have to deal with the embarrassment.

Wait a second.......are we sure the blog with the statement is a real Duggar blog? People on FB are posting the link to the "real" blog and stating that Josh has really made no such admission at all at this point. Anyone know for sure???

It is really strange how they stuck it with Michelle's blog instead of with the statements, but it is real. It is still a shitty apology where he deflects the issue to something else and gives himself a way out, but it is real. I just hope that people won't buy into it. Make him own up to what he is being called out for, not porn, but cheating on his wife.
