Please see the statement below from our son Josh regarding recent media stories about him. When we learned of this late last night our hearts were broken. As we continue to place our trust in God we ask for your prayers for Josh, Anna, our grandchildren and our entire family.

Statement from Josh Duggar:

I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country, I was hiding my own personal failings.

As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose to our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.

I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.

Someone on the first thread asked about whether other celebs have been caught yet. I agree that real celebs don't need AM, but find this interesting:

According to a couple of US News reports, the AM scandal is also hitting the military (a number of the emails were linked to active service men. Adultery in the military is a court=martial offense.

Smuggar, you've been busted and you can't hide behind a hack. You're just as awful as the others--arguably more so. If you're going to talk the talk, you'd better walk the walk.

It doesn't surprise me that many mid-level government and military figures in DC would have AM accounts. They probably thought it was a way to ensure discreet affairs in a town where everyone is looking for a weakness to exploit, and there's no easier way to take down a rival than by exposing a sexual dalliance. These people probably aren't anyone of importance outside of their respective departments, however, which would explain why we haven't heard any names mentioned publicly yet.

The Duggars may try to go with the "Josh's data was improperly released" line again, but given how common data breaches and hacking have become, anyone who goes on these site is taking a risk. I heard that AM's data was actually in the "Dark Net" and supposedly inaccessible by ordinary means, but hackers are getting more and more sophisticated. Was the breach illegal? I would assume so (I don't know much about online law). But increasingly, what happens on the Internet doesn't stay on the Internet, even if it's in the Dark Net.

Plus, Josh is a public figure of sorts, who made a living on preaching about the virtues of monogamy and "traditional marriage" and claimed that LGBT people are undermining the institution of matrimony. Once again, Josh shows that the only people undermining straight marriages are straight people themselves. :disgust:

i understand that point, however just want to be clear that that is not the case with josh...he was actually smart enough to use a throwaway e-mail, it was his cc that tripped him up.

honestly, the e-mails i wouldn't give much credence to, as anyone could have used them. but cc payments going on for two years under his name and the addresses he was living at...different story entirely.

Oh, I fully agree. The credit card info is damning for anyone, including Duggar.

I get that it's a real thing, but the whole porn/sex addiction thing strikes me as such a cop-out with this.

At least he's acknowledged his hypocrisy. His poor wife. I'm also glad he asked for prayers for his wife and family -- and didn't expect anyone to pray for him.

I hate to admit it, but this is a surprisingly good--that is to say straightforward and normal- response. He actually manned up and admitted that HE was to blame and that the victims in this case are his wife and family. Still having a hard time with his "actions as a 14-15 year old"

Those "actions" have a name: MOLESTATION

I wonder if the Duggars are going to try to spin this by starting an anti-porn ministry. Because trying to make themselves the authority on sexual abuse worked so well.

Well, he didn't really say that he was a sex-addict per se, more that he became addicted to the viewing itself...in other words, he acknowledged bringing it on himself.

And yes, this was a much more straight-forward statement than I ever expected from him. And thus far, Jim Bob and Michelle haven't exactly taken a stance, aside from being disappointed (although they're asking for prayers for Josh so...). But that main statement came from Josh (officially), rather than the family as a whole. Overall, better than I was expecting.

And now all the leghumpers can no longer deny that it was him. So yes, I'm also interested to see how Ellie and Lily try to spin this.

And, yes. These people are all about family, no matter how terrible they are. Keep in mind these are the same folks who allowed their son whom they KNEW molested their daughters hang around and continued to let it happen.

I don't know how much speaking JB and J'M can say about this or spin it. They tried to spin the molestation because it happened on their watch. This has happened when he left the nest (leave and cleave). Also Anna may not want them to speak on her behalf (not that she may have a voice in this since she is a woman).

As a consumer of news/gossip, I won't take what J'B and J'M say as the same as what Anna believes because they were all adults when all this happened. Just like I wanted to hear from Joshie boy in the Faux news interviews with J'B and J'm and Jessa and Jill. This time I want to hear from Josh and Anna. Anything J'B and J'M say will be taken as them doing cover up and I don't think they can say anything to make this spin better (like they tried with the molestation).

If it was my husband, my kids would have to go to someone else's house and then I go scream and have a fit at him then go out with some girlfriends/sister/mom and vent and cry with them for support. I didn't mean to blame Anna. Anna was brainwashed by many people to believe that her position in life is to have children and she loves kids. She's not doing anything wrong by wanting kids or being baby crazy when she was raised to want that.

I was just saying that Josh may have felt stuck because he didn't feel like he was allowed to tell his wife that he wants to use birth control so he went outside the marriage for sex that wouldn't be likely to result in a baby. He is still 100% to blame for his decision to cheat.

I agree with your son in regards to the Josh molestation scandal. What Josh did as a teen was WRONG, but it was really the fault of JB and Michelle for the environment they created and how they handled it. 15 year olds are very much products of their environment, which is why we don't assign them full adult responsibility for things.

But this is adult Josh. No matter WHERE you come from (and there are MANY people in the world who come from FAR WORSE environments than Josh), when you become an adult, you assume responsibility for your choices and you are expected to think critically. If you FAIL to think critically about your actions or understand the consequences, that is on you fully as an adult.

I understand your son's concerns about his family. I come from a Fundie-lite family, and one of the reasons I choose to be very private about my political beliefs is that I know my family and family friends would have serious issues with them. Josh could have done the same. He CHOSE to go into politics. That's on him.

It boils down to this:

Did Josh know that cheating was wrong? Yes. He has gone on record many times regarding monogamy and the sanctity of marriage.

Did Josh do this anyway? Yes.

Josh did something wrong that HE KNEW WAS WRONG. Not only that, he told OTHER PEOPLE that they were sullying the sanctity of marriage, knowing full well that the one REALLY disrespecting marriage was him. He is a cheater. He is a liar. He is a hypocrite. There's really no excuse for his behavior this time.

I may be alone in this but I like the statement. To the point, not really making excuses. He seems closer to taking responsibility for his actions and understanding the problems people have with him.
