Very strange video. Jill's buddy team is distraught. Joy can barely let her go. Jenny is sobbing at the end. James looks sad and then leaves the scene after we see Jill move to hug him.

Everyone else acts like they're saying goodbye to their second cousins who they'll catch up with at Thanksgiving.

Speaks volumes about the dysfunction in the family. Jill's younger buddies truly saw her as their real parent. And now she's leaving them, possibly forever. I feel so sorry for those kids, especially Jenny.

And if no one is ever going to brush Jordyn's hair, could someone at least teach her how to do it herself?

1. POOR JOY!!!!

3. James wasn't crying-- I'm sure Jim Bob has drummed it into him that boys don't cry-- but he is losing his real mom too. POOR JAMES!!!

4. Where were the older and middle boys? OK, I can understand them keeping Josh off camera. I know Jer is at Alert camp and Joseph might still be at school. But where's Jason? Jed? Josiah? John David? One of them was probably holding the camera, but what about the others?

5. The little girls look like ragamuffins. Doesn't anybody ever make sure their hair is washed and brushed? Say what you will about the frumper-era Duggars, but at least back then the girls looked neat and clean and well cared-for. Johannah's outfit was especially horrible.

6. The kids who aren't part of Jill's buddy team didn't seem terribly bothered that she is going away.

7. Jim Bob is the same blowhard he's always been. Recent events have not changed him, as far as I can see.

8. Michelle might as well have been on Mars.

9. What's with bringing Grandma on camera at the last minute? If she was there the whole time, why wasn't she standing with the rest of the family?

10. It will be good for Jill and Derick to get away from her parents. And Josh. And the media.

From watching that video, the youngings are kinda looking at Jill as if to say, "Oh, you're still here? Thought you left."

Well, with the exception of Joy and Jenny, of course. I think if Josie could have walked off the "set", she would have.

I know it's not "known" whether or not they're going to El Salvador, but as a Catholic, I feel personally offended at the Duggar's efforts to convert other Catholics to their culty beliefs. I think it's despicable to try to bully anyone of any religion into converting, but this one grinds my gears personally.

I hope whoever they're pontificating to (in whatever country it is) either can't understand them or calls them out on their stupidity to their face.

The whole video is just strange.

And honestly? For as much money as they've "invested" in video equipment over the years (based on the idea that they even had/have a "studio" in their home) it's such crappy quality it's not even funny. How about using an off-camera microphone? (And a camera worth more than $150 and purchased at Walmart?)

And the body language of the Dullards is incredibly telling.

I have watched this video several times now and it just strikes me as so odd

First of all, I wonder if this was filmed early in the morning and that is why everyone seems more dull than usual. And that could explain the messier than usual hair on the younger girls. This video just underscores how disconnected Michelle is to any sort of parenting, from the older kids on down. She barely acknowledges her daughter is leaving. When Joy is distraught, she makes no move to console her and when Jenny is clinging to Jill, she is at least standing near her, but is clearly unsure as to what to do to help calm her down. It looks like she may have put her hand on her arm, but then after a second or two, she awkwardly moves away and lets Jenny have her moment with Jill. Even Jackson shows more concern for Jenny than her own mother does, and Jimbob is oblivious.

I still think Derick's body language is protective. You can see that Jimbob reaches out his hand towards the end of that conversation as if to touch Jill and then seems to realize that Derick has effectively blocked him, so he ends up awkwardly patting Derick's arm.

Additionally you can tell that the little dialogue about Derick's dad was rehearsed, or was at least planned. JB and Jill both nod their heads as Derick hits the usual talking points.

In addition to Michelle not really connecting to either Jill or Derick, the reverse is true. It didn't really seem as if Jill was in anyway connected to her. Perhaps a bit more to JB, but not much.

The only thing good in this clip is that Izzy is a cutie pie. Poor Derick looks rough though. No I am not bagging on his appearance in a snarky way, just that I think he looks like his life has been hard on him the past few months, from new baby, no sleep, worries over Jill's complicated delivery, His surgery, the molestation of his wife as a child, the forced congeniality between he and her molester, and prepping and planning for a long mission trip. He looks skeletal and aged. I hope that the distance will be good for them.

I know there has been a fair amount of snark about the Voluntourism aspect of a lot of these missions, but In Jill and Derick's case, I actually think them getting away and having a few months of rest and relaxation might be good for them. Poor Jill has been working in the family business since she was about 12 or so years old and that doesn't even consider all her years as a sister mom. I won't begrudge her some time to just decompress. Especially if they can hold off converting the likely already converted for awhile as they figure some stuff out.

None of it really makes sense of course, but they sure do love to smart when they talk about that. I've been to El Salvador many times (my mom is from there) and yes, they do have orthodontists lol I know plenty of people over there with braces I know it is shocking :roll:

really, two rich white missionaries in El Salvador will definitely get all the healthcare they need. for a lot cheaper than they would in the US to boot. Jill "has a heart for being a missionary" and also "purposed to have as many kids as the lord desires" so therefore, I think it is inevitable that she will get pregnant while on her mission. And she will probably receive fine care.

Derick is not going to need just a dentist,he is going to need a specialist,one who specializes in orthodontics.Depending on where they are going...like if it's el salvador..I can't imagine he could find one at all? Much less someone who is qualified to do follow-ups on his jaw surgery,unless they are planning on making frequent trips back to the US.I suppose that is a possibility,but why be so anxious to go in the first place? They were living the dream life in that mansion.The whole thing just seems odd and ill-timed

While there are a lot of poor people in Latin America, there are also a lot of rich people. The poor people have little to no access to private medical and dental care. The rich, as usual, can buy anything they like.

There are private hospitals in El Salvador that will be able to take care of a c-section for her-without problem. People go to El Salvador for medical tourism. However, she would be a fool if she attempted a home birth next time whether in El Salvador or the USA.

If she wants to be a fool in the USA there is always the option of driving down to her local hospital. That would be her safety net.

If she decides to be a fool in El Salvador, she could be in serious trouble if she is in some remote area that is far away from an adequate hospital.

IMO, JB immediately sent a feral signal to Derrick that Jill was his. Now, FINALLY, Derrick has possession of Jill; and like a feral animal, but more passive-aggressive so as to not look thus, HE is sending his signal - he has won the fight for Jill, and is feeling-the-water in regards to blatantly shoving it in JB's face*. Jimboob didnt look upset by it because he is a well-seasoned politician, with a masters in BS. Passive-aggressive is a language he speaks well, between the lines - meanwhile his eyes lie with direct, respectable eye-contact. Jill's entire upbringing was meant to prepare her for marrying someone JB thought was worthy. In a way, this is an arranged marriage. The ONLY way that D could gain access to Jill, (and she is the type of girl that he wanted) was to go through JB. He had to court JB every bit as much as he courted Jill. Maybe more so. Prayer partner! haha!

can you imagine just for a second if Jessa had ended up with Derek and that scene played out - the bolded part - which would never happen in a million years - because Derek and Jessa would be such an odd couple - I think Jill plays to Derek and vice a versa - I think he was protecting / sidling up to her

So I'll start with the disclaimer that I haven't read back through the thread.

Put me in the camp of thinking they AREN'T going to El Salvador. In the video JB clearly says that they (the family) would come "over" to visit the Dillards. If it was El Salvador he'd say "down" to visit them. I think they are going to Nepal. I hope to do some actual good, like build schools/hospitals/distribute goods. I also saw the donate link on the Ellie/Lily blog. Not that I'd ever donate to them, but to blindly donate without knowing where they are going and or what they are really using the money for?!?
