Anyone a lawyer? What are the chances? I’m always so pessimistic about these things.

Anyone know the name of the lawfirm that is handling Josh's appeal to the Supreme Court (who will almost certainly decline to hear this case)?

Please let it be the same one Rottenborn and Umbrage work for. Josh will definitely lose.

Same as he had before.

This is from the petition: Justin K. Gelfand Counsel of Record MARGULIS GELFAND, LLC

The whole petition is here - https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23/23-937/301156/20240222141956501_Duggar Petition February 22 2024 EFile.pdf

I haven't read it yet, it's 39 pages.

If I was a Duggar I would really resent all the money being spent on Josh. Perhaps, for some, resentment over money being spent on Josh might cause seeds of doubt about the whole cult. One can but hope.

https://arktimes.com/arkansas-blog/2024/03/01/josh-duggar-asking-u-s-supreme-court-to-review-his-child-pornography-conviction

This is a couple weeks old but answers some of the legal questions.

Per the article Josh filed a writ of certiorari  which is “a request that the Supreme Court order a lower court to send up the record of the case for review.”

I'd probably resent it if I was one of the singles that still lives at home.

But there's really no indication that any of them, single or married, would have gotten MORE from JB & Michelle over the last few years if that money hadn't gone to legal bills.   They evidentially had/have a cash stash they certainly weren't spending on their non-felon offspring.

Jana, the Howlers & Lost Girls all still look like they dress in the dark from a communal dirty clothes basket.  But they aren't employed outside the family, they go places & do things many average people can't afford.

There's obviously still money.

Retired (as of January 1) public defender who did death penalty post-conviction and non-death appeals for 34 years. Near that exact question has been before the Court before. It's not something to bring new law, extend a part of criminal law or resolve a conflict between circuits and/or states.

Very little to none. SCOTUS gets well over 3000 petitions per year. In years past, they took 80 or 90 for briefing, argument and opinion. Now it's about 70 (averages out to cert being granted to less than 1% of the petitions received).

IDK, I’m not sure if any Duggar other than Jill, who together with DD is deconstructing and placing healthy boundaries, truly thinks about or reasons Gothardism or what JB and Michelle represent and have done to the family. I believe that any “thinking” or “reasoning” has been deemed forbidden. In many ways it was and is an easier way to exist in Duggarville; insulates and isolates one from the cruelties and realities of the outside world. There are no problems to be solved, goals, deadlines or expectations to be met. And when all else fails, talk about Jesus and faith-

I don't see that Jill & Derrick made that decision.  The "boundaries" were put in place by her father.  They didn't have some epiphany that sent them into a mainstream, tolerant & accepting Christian lifestyle.  They still subscribe to many abhorant beliefs of her parents.  And she got a chunk of cash from them already.

Jinger & Jeremy relocated first.  A complete geographic break to Texas, then California.  If anybody set boundaries, it was them.  And if they got money, they don't talk about it.  They know the meaning of the word "discretion", as do Joe & Kindra, Josiah & Lauren and the rest of the marrieds.

And I'm not sure what the rest of your post even means.  The question was if the other kids resent so much money being spent on Josh.  And my response pointed out that the rest of the kids living at home aren't being forced to pay their own way. They're still subsidized with phones, cars, trips.  So why should they care?  Maybe there is a little resentment, but what can they do about it?

JB & Michelle still have plenty.

What would sheltered, minor children know about supporting themselves or what goods and services even cost? The rest of your post is apparently WKing for some of the couples who have gone radio silent, again, how would you or anyone know what they have done or not done to become more mainstream or processed the dysfunction?  ALL of the adult, married siblings have taken JB’s money or money earned by the family in exchange for their silence and “secrets” keeping. LOL- Jinger and her man were the first in-line, with outstretched hands, to fund their casa in Laredo. They only relocated because that’s where Jeremy’s church of 20 was located. There’s plenty of info about each family in the archives on this forum.

NTS, I totally disagree with your comment.

Jill & Derrick moved to Central America two years before Jinger got married, I’d call that relocating away from Arkansas. But if you want to be accurate, the first couple to move away were Josh & Anna who moved to DC 3 years before Jinger got married.

None of the couples gave a fuck about discretion when the TLC money was rolling in. After Josh was exposed as a pedophile & then a cheat w/ the Ashley Madison incident, the TLC money went away & some couples decided to stay public & try to make money by being ‘influencers’ (which includes Jinger, btw) & some couples decided not to.

Latest numbers are that the Supreme Court gets 7,000-8,000 petitions for cert. each year & hears around 80 of them.

Congratulations on retiring 💥.

19KAC morphed into Counting On after Josh was exposed as a pedophile and a cheat. So the TLC money lasted five more years after those events. Even as I write that, I again realize CO was all about the oldest daughters, yet it was JB who pocketed all the money. His kids believed he had their best interest in mind but he was a master manipulator and drove that trust they had in him all the way to the bank.

Veering off a bit here, I just finished Crystal Hefner’s memoir “Only Say Good Things” (she doesn’t) about living in the Playboy Mansion and being married to Hugh Hefner. She was in her 20s, he was 60 years older (ew). She offers some salacious details of their time together, but the point I want to get at is she said Hugh got $400,000 per episode of “The Girls Next Door”, but none of the “girls” got a dime from the show. E! network was going to pay Hugh $800,000 for an episode covering the big blow-out wedding he was planning to Crystal. She was to get zero, zilch, nada and she had no say so in anything; she basically just had to show up and say her vows. Except she didn’t! She was a runaway bride. She did eventually go back to him and they had a small ceremony with 10 people in attendance. Anyway, this part of Crystal’s story reminded me of how JB exploited his daughters for his own personal gain, controlling it all.

I know JB didn’t get as massive amounts of money per episode from TLC but nevertheless, he raked in the kind of cash that many people don’t. It’s reported he made $25,000-$40,000 per episode and more on the wedding specials. I don’t know the number of episodes but ka-ching! There are plenty of families who don’t make $40,000 in one year. As JB’s kids became adults, I think he devised a chunk o money payout to each kid in order to stave off a mutinous rebellion had they joined forces to get their share of the money. And JB did the old divide and conquer thing. He discouraged his kids from talking amongst themselves. What a POS.

And per Jill was manipulative and conniving in how he attempted to have the young adults sign over the rights to that compensation. JB is horrible.

Edit: Rufus is stil around, or at least he was 18 months ago. Whey J&J did a vlog tour of their house in August 2022, he was hanging out in the kids bedroom.

I bet the other inmates loved Josh pontificating on the sins of alcohol. I hope he’s smart enough to keep his gob shut. Anna and the kids don’t need more trauma from him getting beaten up in there.
