I'm from the South. I live near several megachurches. I know a lot of physically cute, popular recent high school grads who act just like this guy. They are not pleasant to be around and I find the women who marry them tend to regret it in a few years when they realize their husbands' youthful bluster oftens matures into men who think they're too good to take the jobs necessary to support their families and don't have to compromise on anything with their wives (who are of course holding the husbands back from their greatness).

Also, are the "Make Pornography Illegal" guys stating that they have never looked at porn in any form? Really?

I think Jessa will be in for a rude awakening with 5 blessings and a husband who has a porn addiction that cannot hold down any type of job. Where there is smoke, there is a fire. DO something to help women truly get out of those situations by creating safe environments and reducing the exploitation of young women. Jessa is a great example of someone who can be lured into pornography or prostitution because she has no real skills that she can support herself on.

I really worry for Jessa. I've said it before, but it bears repeating: Free Jessa. I like the suggestions for really DOING something to help these women and providing the a safe place when/if they decide to get out. I really hope that the people who know the Duggars and who look here from time to time are paying attention. You are setting this girl up for trouble.

Nothing in that radar online article even says anything about TLC announcing an engagement. Where did they get that from? Doesn't seem confirmed to me.

What an idiot. Does he realize that shutting down legal sex work will only increase the prevalence of illegal trafficking and forced sex work?

As a feminist, i find the porn industry problematic (though not porn itself) because of how it treats female performers. If anything, I feel that porn should become more female run. It's also one of the few industries where women can and do make more than (straight) men.

I taught at an evangelical Christian school where some more right-wing parents would constantly insist to the administration that female teachers should not be allowed to discipline male students after 6th or 7th grade. I regularly had male students try to "exercise authority" in my classroom by disputing assignments or such things on behalf of the class and tell me that I had to listen to them because of gender. When a principal resigned in the middle of a school year and a female assistant took over the job, a few families pulled their sons out as they felt she could not be the final authority over them. To keep parents happy, the male athletic director was made assistant principal in order to handle discipline with male high school students rather than the principal. Of course, that seriously undermined her authority in the school.

This makes me sick to my stomach. I kind of wanted to laugh its so absurd. Do you mind if I ask where this was ( general region is fine, like southern US or something? I really hope that this patriarch movement dies out soon, its so bad for women.

Count me in as one who is concerned for Jessa's well being in the marriage. She doesn't have any real life skills that would help her be self sufficient if she doesn't like being married to Ben. I really hope she doesn't wind up trapped in a bad marriage.

Ben seems like a young egotistical maniac. His immaturity, lack of real life experience, ignorance and desire for fame could put Jessa in a bad situation. I can see him being VERY controlling. Not a good situation for her.

I know that's how fundies talk about it too, but gross. It seems so, well, immodest to let the world know about your young daughter's sex life. It's like the fundie version of the Kardashians.
