I am in my late 20s, from the Midwest, have a bachelor's degree and a license to teach middle and high school, but use neither- I work in a field that is, for the most part, unrelated to either. I found FJ through a search on the Duggars about 2 years ago, and have been lurking since. After seeing several threads that I wanted to comment on, I finally registered recently.

I can't even remember how I found FJ...I think through another board that I frequent. Hi! :greetings-wavingyellow:

Regular lurker since 2008 or so. Took a break a few months before the rapture. I'm mostly interested in the ATI families. Those are the threads and blogs I frequent. I loved the non-monitored old board. I'm a little scared of the hive vagina on here. I'm glad to know I'm not the only quiet one.

Do we have a "glossary" thread where we can explain the various def. of frequently used words and expressions?

Is "glossary" even a word? In French I'm used to "glossaire".

It could be a good idea to have such a thread pinned in snark, near the bloggers list, if we don't have one already.

I give you: The FJ Dictionary.

Eleventy isn't in there, yet, but people have been adding to the list in the replies.

I've posted a couple of times but never introduced myself. I started lurking shortly before the forum moved from yuku.

I'm early thirties, from the midwest, and grew up fundy Catholic before going to college. Now I enjoy running, hanging out with my toddler and husband, gaming, various internetting and imbibing the evil alcohols.

What is this you say about imbibing in evil alcohol? You grew up Catholic and there was no drinking involved?? That's just UnCatholic!! Oh my word... I was certain all cradle Catholics knew all about drinking and BINGO! I'm not a cradle Catholic, but I'm a convert, and let me tell you, all my cradle Catholic friends grew up with plenty of alcohol. Let's just say "They never met a beer/wine/hard liquor they wouldn't drink"

Do tell more! I am intrigued!

I'm a longtime lurker, rare poster. Just thought I'd introduce myself a little and attempt to post more often.

Typical surburban mom of three from NJ. I work outside the home and do not obey my headship at all, although he'd probably love that. I grew up Catholic, but have fallen away from it mainly due to their stance on gays & all the molestation stuff. I'll say it gave me a good base.

I try to be open-minded and non-judgemental but, please note, I said try, as I also like to snark & gossip! I'm usually a very "everyone is entitled to their own beliefs" kind of person.

I found this place via TWOP, mainly looking for a place to snark on the Duggars, but where I didn't have to stay ON TOPIC/WHAT IS ON THE SHOW all the damn time.

I usually don't comment because people have already said what I am thinking and I don't have to spend time making sure my post is grammatically correct & spell-checked.

Hi, I am in my early 30's married but only answer to my surrocat husband/feline headship. I was raised by an Ex-Catholic who was thrown out of the church for punching his priest and sent to a Baptist Elementary School until 4th grade because my mom didn't want to wait another year to put me in kindergarten. Terrified to cuss until I was 12, now swear like a sailor and proudly agnostic (hey, I don't know who has the right god-I'll just try to be a good person and hopefully the winning god likes that if there is an afterlife). Dropped out of high school, went to college and graduated with a music history/history degree which makes me the go to person for bar trivia and not much else. Currently switching professions from substitute teacher to paralegal so I feel like my student loan bill is worth something ;)

Hey, I'm a 21 year old student, living in the UK. I've been lurking for ages but was forced out of lurkdom last week when snark was only open to members and I needed my fundie fix! Googling the Duggars brought me here and now I enjoy reading about all sorts of QF families and weird religious cults. :)

Another delurker (and rare but trying-to-become-more-frequent poster...) Early 40's, German professor, married, no kids, raised pretty conservative Catholic but now Episcopalian most days. My gateway fundies are/were anyone tangentially connected to Josh Harris because of someone I dated who couldn't put IKDG down, so: YLCF (which is how I found FJ, googling the whole Natalie thing), Sovereign Grace Ministries (SGM), Clare "Mamselle Duroc" Ryan, Tim Challies, etc. Oh, and because I was Catholic for so long, all the nutty EWTN personalities.

I also lurk on places like SGM Refuge, SGM Survivors, Wartburg Watch, etc. But I'm only a limited fan of those sites because the blog admins and regular posters might hold very "liberal" ideas on some roles of women in the church, for example, but don't take those discussions to their logical conclusions on discussions of homosexual or transgender aspects. And some believe SGM or John Piper might individually be bad apples but that overall, conservative theology and straight-ticket Republican voting is still synonymous with Christianity.

I'm a sucker for cognitive dissonance, in other words. At least over there. Here, I'm happy to be part of a much larger and more consistent community and look forward to showing up more often.

Hi - I'm delurking as well. I'm in my 30s, ex-rather extreme fundie (although the pants would have thrown everyone off), a working mother who's kids are doing just fine. I got the evil divorce and ended up married to someone who is just wonderful. All in all, I guess Satan is blessing me, because life is just peachy.

I'm still a Christian - but REALLY REALLY LIBERAL. I think we each must walk our own path and I don't worry about those that aren't Christian (something that used to tear me up when I was fundie) - I think if they're good peeps they'll be just fine. Or...we die and go to dust - am not really worried about it.

I have appreciated Free Jinger because it has helped me from falling back into my old ways. Growing up fundilicious makes it really hard not to have moments when I think I'm going to hell for not being completely and utterly legalistic.

Woops - wanted to say Thank you to all who post here for helping me with the above.

De-lurking to say hello. I have been registered for a while, but never posted. In fact, I was sad that I couldn't remember my log in name and have not been able to read here since the transition started. This morning, I randomly remembered my log in name and here I am.

I am in my 30's. I live in the Southern US (don't judge me yet...lol). I grew up fundie-lite I guess. My parents took my sister and I to church every time the doors were open whether we wanted to or not. I went to a private Christian school from kindergarten until 12th grade. The sort of school that pushed Pensacola Christian College and Bob Jones University as acceptable colleges to attend after graduation. Needless to say, I went to a public state university.

Over the years I have left that life behind me. Even my parents have changed their beliefs over the years. I teeter whether or not there is even a God. I wouldn't exactly classify myself as an agnostic, but I am still trying to figure out what I believe. What makes sense and what is just crap.

I am not sure how I found this site. I have read here for a while now and I enjoy it. I am a rather quiet person, so I am not sure if I will post more than this, but I may. I just wanted to post an intro to put myself out there. :)

Hi. Another lurker coming out of the woodwork.... although I prefer 'reader' to lurker! ;) I've been reading here for a long time but always hesitated to jump in even after I finally registered. I found FJ originally when searching for information about Gothardism and found sooo much more. Can't start the day without a cup of coffee and some snark now!

Welcome! :D I didn't know that fundy Catholics didn't drink or gambled. I thought that's what all of us Catholics did.

I guess I have to start posting. I've lurked on Free Jinger since the beginning but didn't ever register until about a year ago and then still didn't post. I need to keep the account active so I'll try to join in now. I'm a college student and part-time employee. I began watching the Duggar specials and then found the Maxwells through FJ.

I think I feel the worst for Sarah Maxwell because by 20 I've done more than Sarah may ever get to do. I was taken in by the Duggars in the beginning and didn't realize what they were really like until reading FJ and then seeing them not allow their kids to get jobs and go to college.

I mainly lurk as others say things better than me. I arrived here from TWOP as I get tired of their rediculous rules and the closing of threads for the slightest infraction. This is the internet after all! I am a liberal Catholic who is dimayed at the conservative bent my church has taken lately but figures God will straighten things out later and I will ride it out.

I come from a very liberal catholic family but I went to a very conservative Catholic School in when we lived in Latin America. The school was basically run by the Opus Dei and at some point I was being recruited (spelling?) by them so I have a pretty good idea what they are about. I did some social work at the city slums and It was terrible. Ive met 20 years old girls with 3 or 4 kids living in a room with the rest of their family without electricity or running water. I saw close up the horrors of illegal abortions. After witnessing all these, a couple of week laters I heard one of our professors saying: Wouldn't people in the slums be much happier if we go and teach them about the natural family planning method than just going there with a big bag full of anticonceptives? She said that with a big smile. I have many other stories like this one...

Now, I do not believe in a superior being but I considered myself catholic from a cultural point of views. I also have a family member who is a fundy lite catholic and who is Not a nice person.

Coming from my experiences, I am very interested on the topics of this forum and I hope to be more active in the discussions.

What, no takers? :) I'll start. Hi! I am not a fundamentalist; am a cradle Episcopalian. My interest in fundamentalism began when learning about the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints, and from there, well...have been reading about it and have been fascinated with it, because it is so different than how I was reared. I just found it odd, when first researching, that women can't be leaders in certain churches/denominations/faiths because that seemed so odd to me. Married, no kids, two yellow labs, and I have an inordinate interest in reading. Right now, I am *loving* the Daily Free Kindle Reads newsletter to feed that book habit. Can't think of anything else of import.

Hello, I'm Artemis.

I'm a cradle Catholic, currently attend an Anglican church, and am constantly evaluating and re-evaluating what faith I have. I'm interested in fundamentalism from my perspective as a 70s feminist (born in 1961) who believes that patriarchy in all its forms is detrimental to society. My political stance is liberal with a preference for a strongly socialist welfare network. I have very strong (anti) views about guns and violence, including media and entertainment violence.

I'm from a small village in the South West of the UK, have a degree in classics from Cambridge, teach, tutor, and write educational resources. I'm happily married to a man, had my 25th anniversary last year, and have two daughters aged 21 and 17. We live in a messy house where everyone is welcome, have an untidy garden, and too many rescued animals. My Myers-Briggs type is INFJ. I love reading, silence, and kindness, which I believe to be a much underrated virtue.

I also love teaching, and believe that there is no such thing as an (honestly asked) stupid question.
