^I'm 99.5% sure they went to Olive Garden, I recognize the salad bowl & decor.

While I enjoy Olive Garden, I would not be too thrilled about going their for VDay. If they have commercials on TV, it might not be romantic. General rule of thumb.

They clearly have plenty of money, why couldn't he have a florist put together her favorite flowers and then go to a cute restaurant that serves some of her favorites? Or pick up a variety of food & drinks for a picnic? Everything the Duggar's do is so so generic. Holidays & birthdays should not be one size fits all

Here's my guess:

They needed a fuck ton of strawberries for the "banquet" that we know the Duggars had very little to do with but like to pretend. Joshie went to Sams club and bought a few large things of strawberries, some chocolate, a few boxes of pop tarts (because he loves them), and saw the flowers on the way out. They're individually wrapped, so he probably grabbed 2.

In the car he quickly unwrapped them, showed them in the vase, and WAH LAH! Why should he bother attempting to get the arrangements to mesh together? And why should he get roses? Those are much more expensive and these flowers will last longer! Off to olive garden!

Do these people ever eat in a place that isnt a chain? Are there NO local restaurants?

He happened to have a vase in his car? Sure looks like Anna took the picture as he came in the door. Or did he go home, get the vase, and they did a re-enactment photo?

Some people honestly prefer the reliability and sameness of a chain. I find it boring but some people are really particular about having the same thing every time they visit a restaurant.

Re roses, they're not everyone's favourite. I personally don't care for flowers in general but I don't see anything wrong with the flowers Josh got Anna. The price of roses on Valentine's Day is a ripoff so I don't blame him for not getting them.

I cant stand flowers period. I dont like gifts that die in a week, I'd much prefer you get me something that will last. As for the vase, they sell them "ready to gift" to both Sams and Costco as well as in the bunch.

I cant stand chain restaurants. The food tasted really salty to me, especially olive garden. The "consistency" seems to translate into "made somewhere else and reheated here." Plus, I like to support local places. I WILL go to cheesecake factory, but thats the only chain restaurant I can recall in a long time (for a sit down meal - I go to subway for lunch all the time).

Once a week, every week, Joshie dumps the kids with a sister and takes his wife out for dinner. (I think couple time is important, I just get really sick of his bragging about it.)

IIRC, he learned this little trick from his parents.

It's funny, that's the exact reason I love flowers, it feels so extravagant to have something that won't last and is solely there to be beautiful and to be enjoyed in the moment that they are there, next time someone dares to give you flowers feel free to send them my way :D

And I do kind of like the randomness of that bouquet, I was never one for too put-together bouquets, much prefer the "garden-look".

I have to say these people who have built in baybsitters for couples time really irritate the crap out of me. My husband and me haven't been on a "date night" in over a year. My brother and his wife can babysit, but they have their own family and we do not want to inconvience them more than necessary. Also dinner out would be a shitty date night for us. We would be going this food is over priced especially at a chain place and I would be going I could have made this for way less and a lot better. One of the funnest date nights my hubby and I have had was the roller derby. I know not allowed for the Duggars, but still more fun and entertaining then eating dinner.

I feel the same way. My husband comes from a mega family so I could find a babysitter (but I am a bit picky about which SIL I trust). My husband and I have been out alone maybe once in the last 2 years. Orginally it was because I had a serious illness flare up. I could not go out. We then found fun ways to have date nights at home(we rent the kids a movie in the basement playroom and get them a fun dinner and we have a candlelight dnner in the dining room upstairs) and we actually enjoy spending times with our kids. For valentines day we are going tubing as a family. My kids have only seen snow maybe 3 times so this is a huge deal for them and I feel like we are only going to have kids at home for a limited amount of time, why not enjoy fun activites with them while they still want to be seen with us.

As for the flowers, I know Josh is not following his father's frugality but I would rather have a cute pair of earrings or bracelet(and Anna does seem to like the fashion jewelry) then flowers that will die. I guess Josh does not pay attention to what Anna likes. Im sure she would have been happier with a hobby lobby $25 gift card or a cute mutlistrand necklace.

The options must be very limited where they are.

Hmmm...have been through Springdale area a few years ago. It's a large enough town with a decent number of chain and local restaurants.

Isn't part of their beliefs "modesty"? Bragging about every time you walk out the door isn't very modest.

Everything is modest - as long as your knees and shoulders are covered.

They don't know any other definition of modesty - like a humble spirit or any of that kind of thing.

He used #winning. Does he even know about Charlie Sheen?

Josh using that hashtag just ups his smug douche factor.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Does he know he is quoting a man who has/had multiple porn star girlfriends living in his house and went on a very public drug binge/crazy meltdown not too long ago?

Do you think Boob and Mullet monitor his account ( not sure if this has been discussed before so please excuse me if it has :D )? What would they think of him quoting someone like Charlie Sheen??

Also - Can someone please explain how sweet potato fries deserves #winning?

Of course, that's it!

They did a re-enactment photo... they probably do re-enactments all the time as they will be used to it what with being on a "reality" show and all that

Perhaps allergies. Some people with severe allergies like chains for the same ingredients.

Very true. Chains are also sometimes better for eating out with kids. Some places don't have a lot of independent restaurants either.

I really like some chain restaurants, and I work at one that's pretty great IMO. It's more then a food snobbery, it's that Anna either doesn't have particular tastes, interests, favorites...OR Josh doesn't care/know/even think to find out before or after marrying her. I think it's both, and that makes me sad for Anna. What does she enjoy besides Josh, her children, and the Bible? I wish she (and all the Duggar girls) would have the chance to develop her own person outside of Josh's wife and the M's mom.
