"Litigious Condiments"

Quote

A Manhattan jury ordered Donald Trump to pay writer E. Jean Carroll $65 million in punitive damages and another $18.3 million in compensatory damages for her suffering. The lawsuit was over Trump defaming Carroll in 2019 after she accused him of raping her decades ago.

Carroll’s lawyers argued a large amount was necessary to stop a person like Trump from continuing his verbal assaults against her. It took the jury less than three hours to return with a number. Trump has verbally attacked Carroll at rallies, in the lobby of the courthouse, and on social media. He posted over 40 attacks against Carroll on his social media site, Truth Social, in one single day.

Carroll said the ruling is “a great victory for every woman who stands up when she’s been knocked down and a huge defeat for every bully who has tried to keep a woman down.” And Donald Trump is a woman-hating bully.

Trump, who testified this week for the trial for about three minutes, left the courtroom before the verdict was announced. He’s a coward.

Trump posted on his platform that the ruling was “absolutely ridiculous” and, “Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights.” But you don’t have a First Amendment right to slander people. You should also note that Trump didn’t mention Carroll in his posts. So far, the ruling is working.

A separate jury awarded Carroll $5 million last spring after finding that Trump had sexually abused her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the mid-1990s and had defamed her in a Truth Social post in October 2022.

Trump is on tape saying, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything,” and “Grab ’em by the pussy.”

Trump didn’t help himself during the trial and at one point, muttered “con job” and “witch hunt” loud enough for the jury to hear. Trump and his lawyer Alina Habba constantly pushed their luck with the judge and at one point, the judge threatened the lawyer with jail time.

Trump will appeal this but to do so, he’ll have to put up about 20 percent of the $83.3 million as a bond. Trump is still awaiting a judge’s decision in a civil fraud trial where New York Attorney General, Letitia James, has asked the court to levy a penalty of about $370 million on Trump.

Trump may be forced to liquidate some of his properties in the future, and he’s already done so with a few over the past couple of years. While he has been using his supporters’ money and the Republican National Committee to pay his legal bills (and some sycophantic Republicans in Florida want to use taxpayers’ money to pay Trump’s legal bills), there’s uncertainty over whether he can have other people pay off his lawsuits.

After Trump settled the fraud case over his fake university, a buddy paid the $25 million settlement for him while he was president. If a Democrat had this done for him, Republicans would have screamed it was a bribe.

If only Republicans and MAGAts could see Trump the way two Manhattan juries do. If nothing else they should realize that Donald Trump turned a $5 million fine into an $83.3 million fine. But then again, if they’re OK with the fact Trump assaults women, they’ll probably also be fine with him being a financial moron.

At least it wasn’t just our national debt he ran up.
