Josh, Anna 24 Hmmm... Flight Risk? Does Anyone Know if there Are Any Pilots in the Family?

Are Anna and the kids at Big Sandy?

They could have agreed on purpose on a day they were all out so none of the kids would have to see it...

Hmm. If this is how it went down, then it's even more curious what the hell illegal stuff he pulled off without getting JB or others involved. Because if they negotiated a day for being arrested, that suggests there aren't more Duggar arrests coming. And why agree on a day JB, Michelle and Priscilla would be at a conference in Big Sandy? Surely he realised his arrest would affect them too, and not having JB and Mechelle close would make it harder for Anna and the M-kids.

Yeah, I was surprised he was the only one in the cross hairs myself unless he himself was doing something that no one knew until he got caught such as embezzling for instance federal fees. If it was non-financial, I don't imagine they'd keep the lot closed? This whole thing is such a mystery right now.

Might have been to shield everyone from it. Especially if he sent M6 to bug sandy.

The usual conservative progression seems to be start with denial: it's a witch hunt! the feds are just bending to the liberal pressure. Then when it can no longer be denied they move to minimize and deflect: double standards! The dems didn't care when [insert liberal politician or actor even if the actor is like D list] did [insert something similar but likely either made up or exaggerated]. Finally when they can't deny that it was indeed something really bad we get Jesus forgave him so you need to move on.

I've already seen the former and the latter sentiments on Twitter today.

But she wouldn't see it as abuse, because he didn't hit her

Fundie Rulebook, page 1. He could do anything else he wanted to her, and it wouldn't "count" as abuse.

And even if he did hit her, everyone in her circle would probably be more interested in what she did to provoke it than the fact that he actually crossed the line.

I have all the sympathy and compassion in the world for the M-kids, but I reserve some for Anna, too. Remember how when he was in Jesus Jail she was talking about working out and getting in shape while looking forward to his return? Of course. She wanted to be more "pleasing" to him. Women in her circles are taught that they need to stay as hot as porn stars or else their husbands will stray. So in essence, in their way of thinking it was HER FAULT he needed an Ashley Madison account because she'd "let herself go."

I dare say there are those in their circles who would blame the wife if the husband committed SA of any kind because she hadn't "met his needs."

I think it’s very likely he knew about the charges and turned himself in to avoid being arrested in front of the kids.  Not sure he had a ton of notice though.

I’m willing to bet that regardless of whether he knew in advance, part of Anna is happy that she was able to post her baby/gender announcement stylized Instagram post as that’s a big deal for her circle.

Zero sympathy for her at this point.

I wonder if he regrets not pursuing law school still ? At this point even if he graduated and passed the bar, I doubt he’d pass the character background piece.

I was curious about the full array of crimes homeland security would consider their jurisdiction.

from the website:

“HSI utilizes these authorities to investigate a wide array of transnational crime, including: terrorism; national security threats; narcotics smuggling; transnational gang activity; child exploitation; human smuggling and trafficking; illegal exports of controlled technology and weapons; money laundering; financial fraud and scams; worksite and employment crimes; cybercrime; intellectual property theft and trade fraud; identity and benefit fraud; and human rights violations and war crimes.”

My understanding has been that the FBI was typically the agency that arrested for CP.

eta: looks like it’s both agencies and sometimes state level task forces too.

With the involvement of the used car lot and proximity to state borders, it would be pretty easy for Josh to commit federal financial crimes out of incompetence. Simple things like sloppy/lazy record keeping with respect to tax payments can unintentionally become a federal crime when dealing with a multi-state business, including purchasing used vehicles at auction in Oklahoma/Missouri/Tennessee, then transporting for sale in Arkansas.

Good morning everyone, seems we still dont know the charges?

A reminder if it hasnt come up already that in guessing the charges, avoid the term "child porn" for child sexual abuse (csa) images or materials which is more accurate. Similarly, it's never "sex with an underage woman" but with a child.

I’d wonder why they didn’t just throw in some windows. They rehab houses for a living FFS

Also, I can’t keep up, sorry if it’s been discussed —- but anyone know where Josh was on January 6th for Insurrectionpalooza? Because that could be a thing.

What you suggest is actual work, and not the kind where you get paid. You know, like the kind of work the Duggar minors provided JB and Michelle.

Do we know for sure that Anna and kids aren't at Big Sandy?

Maybe it was planned so they'd be away at the time of his arrest.

Why would M6 bug sandy? Sandy needs to grow up. They are just kids! ?

Does anyone have a bad joke drumroll handy?

If it is financial crime I can totally see JB letting Josh take the blame and cut a deal. His reward would be that his family will be kept by JB. Josh has very little by way of assets so this would suit JB.

This seems most likely to me. Add in things like buying stolen cars, selling across state lines without a license, there are literally dozens of crimes that could come from just plain old dumbassery with a used car lot.

This does seem most likely, but also most boring.

Would this involve no bail though? (I have no clue about US legal systems)

The worst thing about that is the number of under/uneducated family members with ever-increasing numbers of children and no skills to earn enough to support them. At least the existence of JB’s evil empire means the kids have their physical needs met.

Well... the parents of all those kids will have to step up and take care of them, and that includes Anna. They will have to start being responsible, engaged in the real world adult citizens and parents. Maybe they’ll finally understand and appreciate why having a government safety net is important. Maybe they’ll finally realize why an actual education and sustained work effort are paramount. Sad the lessons had to come in such a terrible way.

I just keep turning over Jill and Derrick's "It's sad" in my mind because that's the only crumb I have to chew on. What does that mean? Is it a loaded it's sad? A sarcastic it's sad? WHAT is sad?

Honestly, I just need someone to do a full mock up of that family text. The one with all the kids & then the one without Jill ?

USMS is the custodian of those arrested for federal crimes.

We’ll see what info is made available today. Hope it’s not as gross as it could be. In person Josh gives off a vibe that’s creepier than make your skin crawl.

I don’t know why people keep saying no bail or bond. He has not even been formally charged and arraigned yet. Those steps are required before a bond is set.

I don’t know a lot about the prison system. Just what I’ve learned from documentaries/the news. I know what I’m about to say might cross a line but I’ll say it anyhow.

If Josh is being held within the general population I hope he is shaking in his boots, full of fear, and dread. He’s victimized so many people he deserves to know what true fear feels like.
