Two Maxwell sons selling their debt free homes are two of the events of 2020 that excite me. It’s hard to explain that to others.

It really is a big deal. So little change happened in the Maxwell family besides moving within a Mile of Maxhell and baby after baby. Now Steve and Teri have left the nursing home church plus Joe and Jesse moved to a big city. It’s a lot for Maxhell.

I hope so too.  I hope their kids develop an appetite for shooting pool, and for The Beast.

Of course I don't actually know, but I've been operating under the assumption that the move is, in large part, because of Joseph's clients. Leavenworth isn't a hotbed of business - Kansas City offers so much more. He works out of his home, so he doesn't have an office to meet clients in. He has to go somewhere to meet them - and I figured most of them are already in KC. He advertises as "Kansas City's Magento Specialist" - that's his market.

I would like to think there is some wing spreading and all that, but I would still bet that the main motive was business. Getting a giant assed house with room to move around is a bonus. But, he is clearly doing well in his business, and can only do better being in the middle of it instead of 30-40 minutes away.

I don't think the move has anything to do with his business, other than possibly giving him a better space for his office. With the type of business he's in, it's possible to never have to meet your clients or your employees face-to-face because there's just no need. (And with a web-based business, limiting yourself to local clients only wouldn't be a very smart decision.) My daughter, for example, who's in the same field, is currently interviewing with companies that are both across the country and overseas—the chance they'd ever meet is pretty slim but they'd still be in contact all day long (just like at her current job where the main offices are in Philly and Silicon Valley while she's in NYC). And I have some freelance graphic design clients that I've been working for since 2008 and we've never me, even though they're local. So I'm lay odds that this move is just so their family has room to grow, with the possible added bonus of cutting the apron strings. Or at least nicking them a bit…

What a crazy year! Soon Steve will end up announcing a daughter is getting married!

What caught my attention was moving to be close to their local church.  A local church? A LOCAL CHURCH?   A church that is not the First Church of Stevehovah Reversalist!  This is YUGE!

Next thing ya know, the boys are going to be practicing family planning so as to avoid a bazillion kids one after the other and somebody's wearing yoga pants in the house.

Awwww, so Jesse is married now.  I don't get to celebrate my birthday with his birthday post about how much he loves his coffee, or be defrauded with a wide leg stance.  Sad.

I feel like the Reversal sons moving away (it's only a matter of time before John leaves I am sure of it) makes it even less likely for the girls to ever marry. Steve is losing more and more control, and his Seriously posts show he is not handling that well. He will keep those girls at home to keep his ego fed.

That house is beautiful. I love looking at houses so thank you for posting that link, @ripples72801

It’s really quite impressive that Joseph and Elissa have such a nice home at their ages. As far as a mortgage, I wonder if they actually listened to advice from...(cue spooky music) THE OTHER PARENTS.  Maybe, Joseph committed that huge sin and really considered what another man, besides Steve, said. Since most people can’t have a home debt free at that age, perhaps they decided that this house will be a great investment and taking on a mortgage is not so bad.

With interests rates as low as they are it would be kind of insane to put all one's savings into a house. Unless you knew for sure that the stock market was going to crash soon.

Now that one I did not like at all.  I don't mind clogging although I'm not the biggest fan, but the family was costumed all wrong.  They looked maybe Scandinavian which I don't associate with clogging/step dancing. They should have been dressed as either American square dancers or maybe as Irish step dancers. These people were not only costumed wrong, but they were entirely too dour.  They did not seem to having a good time at all.

Here’s the official explanation. I wonder what Steve thinks of their church.

Which church do John and Chelsy attend? I can imagine Chelsy wanting to attend the church Jesse and Joe attend because it seems like there are plenty of people to socialize with, and Anna is one of Chelsy’s friends.

So, they say they plan to make it back *regularly* for Sunday lunches?

Like, once every six months? That would be 'regularly'? Right? Right?

?. That would be nice.

7 hours ago, kpmom said:

I noticed that as well.

And really "regularly" could mean anything.  Once a month, once a quarter.  It doesn't necessarily mean weekly.

If I was Elissa, I wouldn't want to make that drive every Sunday with two (three?) kids in the car.

Ah, you beat me to it. Should have finished reading before commenting ?

Ah  but they'd have to use plant based meat substitute for them. They could make a nice veggie lasagna though. My husband likes  that and he likes seafood burritos too.

A NORMAL Conservative Church that will have a sprinkling of democrats--yes, truly. Folks will watch real t.v. shows and talk about them. There will be church Super Bowl or World Series parties if it ever goes back to normal. Guys will roast pigs and serve deli potato salad at big church-wide cookouts! People at church will read novels by Christian and non-Christian authors, kids will go to all manner of schools, be in sports leagues American Heritage Girls or even Girl Scouts, etc. Hell their kids could defraud everyone being in gymnastics, Upward Cheer, even public school cheer or swim teams! VBS will be a part of their normal year summers. Most of their neighbors will be college grads of successful small business people. The couples could...make...FRIENDS with people not raise in a family prison!  The wives can go to MOPS or similar Moms groups, Bible Studies [aka Book Club just with prayer]--heck maybe even the neighborhood book club where WINE is served!! They could go on Mission Tourist Trips! I'm so happy for them! It's so NORMAL for the Midwest and south at least!

Or it could go the other way. Steve has been able to justify the girls' extended existence in the home by showing how desperately BUSY they are doing things for their brothers. Well...two brothers have now flown the coop, a third is likely to follow, and driving 40 minutes each way to help every day isn't going to seem prudent (plus, do Anna and Mary even drive?) C&A are going to be cloistered for a bit, so unless one of the sisters is willing to go on strict quarantine and then move into their bubble, they won't be doing much there while Anna is immunocompromised. Nate's "crew" is getting older and may not need as much help as they did when everybody was under the age of six. In other words, we're getting to where Teri may be able to handle the schedule of Fan Dusting and Cabinet Polishing without multiple adult assistants. Sarah has her writing and bookkeeping but I just don't think there's really going to be enough for the reversal girls to do.

Do we know if Elissa was homeschooled ?  Do we know whether she's planning to homeschool?

Because if I didn't know any better, I would guess they were moving to Olathe for the **PUBLIC** school system. Calia is getting to be about that age where her parents are going to have to make decisions about education.

Did some research on niche.com regarding school systems in Kansas. Leavenworth Unified district gets a B- and  an overall ranking of 145 out of the 286 Kansas school districts. Olathe Public Schools get an A and are ranked 4 overall.

If all they wanted was real estate, they could find that square footage for less money and still be near KC. The reason for Olathe's high prices, and why it's such a desirable destination for young families, is the excellent PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

No wonder the closing bible verse to the most recent blog post is so shady.

I'm not. Getting rid of old Bibles, even if they're worn or outgrown, is tricky. When you hold something in such high esteem you can't really just throw it in the trash, so what do you do? Recycle? Burn? Bury? Or just stick them in the attic and kick that decision a little further down the road.

Yes, I think Calia's birthday is in mid-September so she'd be the right age for pre-K (if it's offered - with Olathe being so highly ranked, I can't imagine they don't) this year, and starting kindergarten next year.

Though if a Maxgrand goes to public school I might just fall over dead. Even in the pre-reversal era, when the boys were in a hearts-stealing, sports-glorifying, traditional classroom, it was a Christian school, not a public one. ETA - though we'll never hear about it if they do. J&E are so underrepresented on the blog already and you know the people who wrote "Keeping Your Children's Hearts" would never announce that their first reversal went and sent his kids to public school.

I also think it's interesting that all of the pictures in the "they've moved" post show the split-foyer. Fixing up the split-foyer for sale, cleaning out the garden. Not even an exterior snapshot of the new house. I sense strong disapproval from the mothership. Not that we're surprised, considering the distance (which we know for sure) and the mortgage (that we're just speculating about.)

Yeah, I don't know. This family can create work out of nothing. Teri still needs the girls to clear out the freezer with her, so I don't think she's able to handle anything emotionally. And physically will be changing.

There are still plenty of little kids around for the girls to watch on a regular basis, and the older kids will need chaperones no matter what. Chris and Anna won't be quarantined forever. And they can certainly drive just once and spend a few days helping out when Elissa, Anna and Chelsy birth the next blessings - there's likely enough room for the girls to stay for a bit.

Plus, there's the fact that they provide cheap labor to their brothers' businesses. No matter what, that's always going to be needed.

Steve is also allowing the girls to teach that Bible club and travel for "missions" which will be a great reason for them to be soooo busy.

There will always be reasons to keep the girls at home. Hell, Steve doesn't need to give a reason. All he has to say is that God is not telling him such and such GYM is the one for the girls. They can spend their days idle so long as Steve claims he has a direct line to God. No excuses needed.

I've been to a few dinner parties where the entree was Costco's big foil pans of lasagne. That stuff is good! I'm not a Costco member so I don't know how much it costs, but it can't be prohibitively expensive.
