Maxwell 33: Managers of Their Vests

One of the pics Sarah took was The Generation to Come.  So sad that these kids already have their lives pretty much mapped out for them.

I like to imagine that at least one or two of that big group will run far away from the Maxwell brand of Christianity.  But, I thought that about Sarah's generation too, and so far it hasn't happened.

Now that is just not true and you know it. Rebel John married a woman who wears EYELINER and KNEE-LENGTH SKIRTS and they didn't have a no-touch courtship.

I hope so too. The last thing the people working for Operation Christmas Child is dealing with lice being delivered to them. Like I said before, I don't think the Maxwells have much experience with lice and NR Anna made it sound like they didn't handle it like they well.

That lice post made me itch for days. I'm a teacher so the threat of lice is higher than it might be in some other professions...also my daughter (who has a chin-length bob) is not the sort to sit still for one single comb-out, much less daily comb-outs for weeks. (But I guess that's my own fault for not blanket training her into subjection before she could even sit up unassisted, right?)

Related: I enjoy sewing/designing clothes and I adore calico, so I usually have a soft spot for the dresses Anna Marie makes for the girls, but I'm really disappointed with what they're wearing in that family portrait. For one thing, it's seasonally all wrong (that turquoise would be great for a spring/summer dress) and also, tiered dresses like that are BORING made from just one fabric. YMMV, but I think they just look wrinkly. But these are the Maxwells, so we know they aren't going to mix it up Matilda Jane-style.

Re:  lice

When my daughter got lice in 3rd grade we took the advice of a South Asian classmate's mom who told us to slather her hair and scalp with coconut oil, cover it with plastic wrap (like a turban), and leave it on overnight. The next morning we did a comb out with a LiceMeister (TM), then shampooed her hair (it actually took a few days before we had all the coconut oil out, but in the meantime her hair was really shiny and smelled great). The mom said the trace amount of coconut oil remaining on her scalp would keep her from getting reinfested while the plague ran its course through the school.

The Generation to Come picture made me think that Steve could have have had half a dozen or more grandchildren by now if he had let his daughters get married. Although I guess they wouldn't be Maxwells so maybe he wouldn't count them.

I’m really confused by that headline. Isn’t ‘the generation to come’ those who aren’t here yet? I mean, those kids are here....there....there in the picture. They have already arrived. I think something like ‘the latest generation’ ‘the grandchildren’s generation’ ‘the joyless generation’ ‘the still-hope-for-escape generation’ would be more accurate.

I'm semi-ashamed to say I care, but who is the black-capped baby who’s smaller than Deborah?  Is Son Of Judgy the one on Abby’s lap?

No shit! They are the youngest generation. They are not "to come". They've already come. The generation to come is this generation's offsping, not them.

New post up about thanksgiving books. The one below really pissed me off. How did this Native American slave get back to America?

Spoiler

Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving (Titus2’s Amazon’s Affiliate link, see the Privacy Policy), by Eric Metaxas, is an amazing story of how God uses trials for His own purposes and glory! It follows the life of Squanto being kidnapped from his Patuxet village and sold as a slave upon arrival in Spain, purchased by monks who taught him about God, then sent him to England where he learned English before finally returning to his village ten years after his kidnapping—only to find that a plague had taken the lives of every Patuxet. He sorrowfully wondered why God would have allowed this when shortly after, the Pilgrims arrived and settled in Patuxet. Knowing their language and knowing the land, he was able to help them learn the best ways to hunt and cultivate. I don’t know how much of the story has been “enhanced,” but regardless, it is a good reminder that we don’t know what God might use trials in our lives for, and we can trust that He does indeed work all things together for good!

Damnit. It’s 30 years since I learned about the Pilgrims originally and they’re still teaching these awful lies to kids?

It wasn’t a wilderness the Pilgrims settled in. It was an empty village, complete with fields, paths, and cleared land. It was empty because everyone had died of disease, and it was really beyond-comprehension awful, and, and, and,........ARGH.

Anna Marie says ‘enhanced’ but we all know that means ‘made up.’ Although no wonder they like the Puritans, that whole family is basically modern day Puritans, complete with fasting and angst. They’re only different in that they celebrate Christmas.

Off topic, ’over the river and through the woods’ has always fascinated me because I know the river (unnamed, but it’s commonly understood as the Mystic)  she spoke of intimately - I see it nearly every day - and it’s never frozen over by Thanksgiving. It rarely freezes at all anymore. And there’s certainly no thick blanket of snow around here in November anymore, either. That poem was how I first learned about climate change, and how it used to be colder here but now we have heated world up and it rarely snows before December except for a flurry or two.

I think it’d be funny if the Maxwells came through and showed their kids the river today and the most notable thing about it is the enormous casino built last year right on the banks.

@anachronistic,  this is a bit OT but my daughter once was going to work at the hotel at Mohegan Sun, but then her boyfriend broke up with her and she needed to come home for a while.

There was not one fucking thing miraculous about the arrival of the Pilgrims for the Native population.

I descend from some of those pilgrims and I totally agree. It’s weird to descend from lots of problematic people.

Do these fuckwads know Thanksgiving didn't become a federal holiday until 1863 when Lincoln signed it into law last Thurs in November.  Then in 1939 FDR moved it back a week to give retailers a longer shopping season, 1941 Congress made it official making Thanksgiving the 4th Thur in November.  Also some people call Thanksgiving "Unthanksgiving" due to the treatment of Native Americans.

The Maxwell family is one of the most willfully ignorant families I've ever seen. I can't read their blog anymore. In light of our disgusting president, I find the Maxwells just disgusting too. All of these fundies are nauseating. It's getting to be too much for me.

At my UU church service yesterday, we had a “cider and cornbread” communion,  during which our minister discussed the hard truths about the “first Thanksgiving,” along with information about traditional harvest festivals. The cornbread represented the maize the native Americans shared with the English settlers; the cider represented the apples the English brought to North America.

And then we had a litany for the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Yeah, enhanced, all right.

The Pilgrams robbed graves and homes that had been abandoned (likely temporarily) due to plague. The Native Americans that helped the Pilgrams did so because they hoped to ally with the Pilgrams against their political enemies. Squanto likely helped the Pilgrams in order to increase his own standing with his tribe. He also likely never truly followed Christianity. The Pilgrams were dumbasses who hadn't properly prepared for colonization and would have died quickly if not for the stolen food. The first Thanksgiving was likely at least somewhat tense because neither the Pilgrams nor the Native Americans truly trusted each other.

Such miracles.

For a family that supposedly protects their offspring to the point of stifling them, I find it odd (not really) that Anna Marie doesn't know how much of the Squanto book is embellished/made up/fucking lying for jesus. No need to research actual history about a human being who was kidnapped & sold into slavery if that human is used as a tool by some god. No need to teach your children actual facts, or educated guesses/general knowledge, if a mystical jesus story has been spun around a man whose life was stolen.

More kids growing up with white washed, jesus infused lies.

Fuck you Anna Marie. No, really. I have no way to sugar coat it.

Anna Marie's choice of books and reviews baffle me. The whole Squanto story is messed up. According to Anna Marie it is a good think Squanto got kidnapped and sold into slavery. Why? Because he found God and Jesus. Like really? Squanto finding Jesus and God is justification for the suffering he went through. Do the Maxwells monitor their comments before they are posted? They may have some explaining to do if they don't. I can see a few people slamming Anna Marie for her treatment of book about Squanto and his life.

I grew up being taught this very thing. I genuinely believed it for many years of my adulthood. Sad to say I’m not alone in that. John Shrader is the perfect example of “anything is permissible for me because Jesus.”

John Shrader is the perfect example for justifying trusting in Jesus no matter what, so to say. I clicked on the link to the Squanto book on Amazon. The book has five stars (why I don't know) and it is by a Christian author who has won Christian awards for standing up for Christian rights.

I just wanna leave the infamous pizza cutter recipe here since it's what they eat for the holidays https://blog.titus2.com/2015/12/08/teris-favorite-salad/

I’ve been thinking this for a while. They seem a lot more guarded in what they tell us these days. Oh for the days of the trip to the Zoo, cheese paper gate or Uriah breaking down.

Isn’t the book with bare chested man on it porn? Have the reversal’s ever seen pecs?
