Maxwell 32: Wearing Your Vest in 15 Minute Increments

Coconut Flan

Recommended Posts

Someone asked about the unusual ingredients!!

Sarah’s one:

Ours (the M&M topped one) included a light sprinkling of Parmesan cheese and then black beans pureed into the Oreo and butter crust. One would have to think hard to figure it out as we had ice cream, pudding, etc in there

The winning one was the one topped with whipped cream although they didn’t disclose the unusual ingredients.

Sarah and Jana need to get a place on the AR, KS state line, or maybe In MO just to be safe and non partial to either family.

If Maxwells like hiking so much, why do it just on Colorado and just on August? They are never pictured hiking in Kansas (I know it's flat but I suppose there are nice countryside spots where they could do excursions and long walks).

Autumn and Spring are beautiful seasons to hike. But they never seem to take a weekend holiday to any natural park. They are used to travel, so it wouldn't be a difficult trip for them.

About math being godly - good & perfect christians can, and do, make everything about jesus! Look at Noah Sanders - he farms for god, produces godly produce, redeams the dirt. A fundie family I sometimes watch on YouTube is basically doing k-12 online school this year and their biggest concern is that it is not faith based, but they showed all the "support" they will be adding to the curriculum, like how god made numbers and evolution versus truth or some stupidly titled pamphlet. If you try hard enough and perform enough mental gymnastics, you can make any damn thing about whatever you choose.

So, Sarah is getting ready to write another book. In late August, still in the outline stages. The book will be published for Christmas. 4 months to write a book from start to finish, even a holy child's book, explains a shit ton about their concept of writing and story telling. She's following a script, not creating something from her imagination - since she doesn't have an imagination because she has no experience.

I could write a book in 4 months too, from concept to publishing, if I chose topics I've already been brainwashed about or have such extensive experience with nothing else can penetrate the thought process. Want to know how to vacuum your living room? Create a pdf in Adobe? Talk to your mother on the phone (since you don't live with her)?

I  don't understand that either.  If Sarah has a problem with altitude, there are plenty of places they could go where that's not a problem.  You're not going to have a problem any place east of the Rockies.  There's Mt Katadhin in Maine,  and Acadia National Park also in Maine and all sorts of great hiking along the Appalachian spine.  Then there are places like the Black Hills and Deadwood in South Dakota.  The George Mickelson Trail there runs 108.8 miles.  You can do a lot of hiking on a 108 mile trail.   They might need to avoid going during the weekend in Mickelson Marathon weekend in June and the week of the Sturgis motorcycle rally as well as avoiding the casinos, saloons and anything that references all the brothels that are part of Deadwood's history. As James Michener noted in Centennial, prostitutes were some of the women that tamed the West.

@PennySycamore , I bet those places aren’t Jesusy enough for them—or the people there aren’t the right kind of Jesusy.

Deadwood does have a pretty colorful history!

Yellowstone and the Tetons are nice options.  I've gone hiking there and it wasn't too strenuous.  Mt Washburn in Yellowstone is just over 10,000 feet, took me about 4.5 hours roundtrip.

Didn't the Maxwells have some kind of strange lobster adventure once when they went to New England to do their conference thing?  Am I imagining this?  I was trying to imagine them hiking in their long skirts in Acadia and thought of the lobster story (that I obviously am not remembering).   I wonder how common it is to hike in long skirts in Acadia?  I'm in a kind of silly mood tonight.

I live in New England, and we are definitely not the right kind of Jesusy  There are some of those what I assume are IFB type churches, but they are definitely not the majority and are looked upon with some suspicion or amusement in towns larger than 10,000 people.  Deadwood sounds fascinating.

They did have a lobster adventure but I don’t think it had anything to do with hiking. They all hated the lobster. First they tried it cold and then Steve microwaved it. ? I’m not a lobster fan either but at least I gave it a fair shake several times. Nuking lobster. Just, no. As for Sarah’s misleading post title...

@sparkles, a delicacy from Down Under sounds like they tried some kangaroo meat or vegemite.  Nope, a lobster.  Cold with no butter is not the way to eat lobster for the first time.  And definitely not microwaved.  That's not the way to cook anything.

I'm a vegetarian 99.99% of the time, but do miss good seafood.  Lobster, crab, shrimp, cream chowder.

I'd forgotten about Yellowstone and the Tetons!  It's not just hiking either; there is so much to see.   Stevehovah might have a bit of a problem with the Tetons though.  Isn't the name inspired by women's breasts?

I am allergic to lobster - all shell fish. I've never really minded, because I do not actually like it.

But, my ex loved it so I made it for him once in a while. You do not serve lobster cold, without butter. You do not microwave lobster. Of course it will suck if you do not make it properly. Just like anything else.

But, remember, these are the people who think Buddig beef with chicken & sour cream and cream of mushroom soup - or whatever the hell that concoction was - is good food. They wouldn't know truly good food if it bit them and leaped into their open mouths.

I read once that eating lobster is a good excuse to eat melted butter.  ITA!

I'm hoping they gave up that Buddig beef recipe after Steve had his heart issues, but these are the Maxwells so who knows.

I must respectfully disagree. Lobster rolls and lobster salad are wonderful, butter-free, and delicious.

I think some on here speculated that Steve (and Teri) have adopted a vegan diet, based on the fact that they’ve used Dr Fuhrman’s nutritarian diet in the past. The Maxwells haven’t confirmed what diet they’re doing (Teri said she would do a future post about it).

Another, shorter post this time, about a hike to Waterdog Lake.

I think the Maxwells really like Colorado for hiking, even though Sarah is starting to get sick on these trips. But, still I don't understand why they don't expand their hiking horizons. I am from the northeast, there are several trails they could climb up around here like Mount Washington and the Adirondack trail. But, the Maxwells are going to continue on with Colorado.

I always suspected Coward Steve set them up to dislike lobster by serving it cold so they would never develop an appetite for it.  On the latest post what possible topics could the spinsters have talked about, family and the bible?  They don't read books, watch the beast, watch movies, follow sports, current events, and fashion.  No hobbies, they don't take classes, and have no activities not approved by Coward Steve.

@Black Aliss, you are obviously not from Connecticut, where a true lobster roll is brushed in butter, toasted, and filled with warm, buttery lobster meat. That other kind of roll is a lobster SALAD roll, which has its own distinct charms.

Thanks for the reminder.  It would be better for everyone if they stayed in their own little Kansas bubble.  How sad that those kids haven't been encouraged to do anything without the approval of their silly scaredy-cat parents.  Maybe if they got out more on their own to explore they would discover the joys of mundane (for me anyway) things like non--microwaved lobster.   I'm sooooo glad I have a normal 22 year old who enjoys doing and learning new things on her own with the kind of curiosity and fearlessness we should all have at that age.   I'm several decades older than those girls, and my life is more interesting than theirs.

 I’m just here for the warm vs cold, butter vs non-butter convo. Personally I hate lobster but I’m greatly entertained by this thread-drift.

Seriously, they TRY to be boring, right? I couldn't even finish the most recent post. Someone needs to get pregnant or engaged. Too dull.
