Legal experts said the whole filing for bankruptcy  looks like a dodge on the part of Jones

Quote

But legal experts tell TPM that while the filing is bankruptcy on its face, it could all be part of an effort to delay accountability and reduce the amount he’ll have to pay the families in damages.

Jones’ strategy seems to be to set the limits of what the families will get from him and to “create confusion” with the bankruptcy filings, said Bruce Markell, a bankruptcy law professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.

“The whole point is to drag out the process and wear down the plaintiffs into agreeing to whatever he wants to give them,” Markell told TPM over the phone on Monday.

Put more bluntly, the endgame is to “force the plaintiffs to accept whatever table scraps Jones left in the companies’ coffers,” attorney Liz Dye wrote in her analysis of the case in Above the Law, where she frequently blogs about the many legal woes of Trump and his cronies, including Jones.

And in the latest Jones news

Quote

InfoWars chief Alex Jones has offered speak to the Justice Department’s January 6 prosecutors but wants immunity in return for his cooperation.

Jones, who runs the right-wing conspiracy media outlet that filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, said through his lawyer that he had informed the DOJ of “his desire to speak to federal prosecutors about Jan. 6.”

Jones, who is currently fighting lawsuits from the families of Sandy Hook victims, wants immunity as part of any deal, according to The New York Times.

Norm Pattis, an attorney for Jones, told The Times that his client had formally requested a meeting with DOJ prosecutors in a letter, but insisted that Jones had not carried out any “criminal wrongdoing” on 6 January 2021.

For all of his bluster and raging and defiance, he doesn't have the courage of his convictions. He continues to be an immense POS.

Why does he need immunity then?

Yup, interesting times ahead for Alex Jones.  Of course, to get immunity he has to totally completely bring the tea.  All of it. The whole damn pot.

He was at the Willard War Room.  He also doesn't know what the Feds have on him re: communications, texts, phone numbers, cell phone location logs, who else has flipped and is spilling info, and if there were informants/moles in InfoWars.    If he holds back or lies, he's in outstandingly keep shit.

His ex, Kelly Jones,  is also stirring up some shit on Alex and the court system, although I'm not sure what "if the court hadn't assisted him to convert infowars & coerced me w prior-restrain" refers to.

As I recall their divorce was quite messy so she might be referring to the parts of the proceedings that didn't go her way.

The Justice Department is challenging the bankruptcy filings

Quote

The Justice Department is challenging a bankruptcy filing by far-right Infowars radio host Alex Jones involving three companies after he lost defamation lawsuits filed by families of Sandy Hook massacre victims.

The Chapter 11 filing “raises numerous questions — the answers to which may demonstrate these cases are an abuse of the bankruptcy system,” stated court documents submitted Thursday by the U.S. Trustee Program, the Justice Department’s bankruptcy watchdog.

Chapter 11 filings allow a business to keep operating — and pause civil litigation — while working out a plan to get out of debt.

Jon Beatty, an attorney for Sandy Hook victims’ families, characterized Jones’ move as a “sinister” strategy to duck liability in his comments Friday at a federal bankruptcy hearing in Texas, where Jones lives. Another attorney for the plaintiffs, Cliff Walston, noted to the judge that Jones and his companies have reported $56 million to $78 million a year in revenue, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

Alex recouped $75,000 after actually showing up for a rescheduled deposition!

Alex Jones to be repaid $75,000 in court fees A judge ordered the return of the money after Jones eventually did show up to the rescheduled deposition.

On the other hand, Texas judge orders Alex Jones to pay $1M in legal fees for Norwalk native, 4 Sandy Hook parents

NEWTOWN — A Texas judge has ordered Alex Jones and his companies to pay $1 million in legal fees to the parents of two slain Sandy Hook children and a Norwalk native falsely accused of being the shooter in a Florida high school massacre.

Yes, it's still a high drama situation.  As I understand it, the ex, Kelly, lives a few blocks away from Alex and the new wife.  I think there is still one minor child (teenager?) and an older teen son who works for Info Wars.  Kelly has visitation but it sounds rocky.

In the last year, there was a police call to the Jones home involving the new wife and at least one of Alex/Kelly's kids.  I suspect substance abuse/mental health issues for the new wife, who has a young child with Alex. Alex has had a DUI in the relatively recent past -- maybe while riding a motorcycle in his neighborhood?  What a fluster cluck of dysfunction.

I live in the same city as Alex and the InfoWars studio, so all this is covered in somewhat more detail in the local press. The InfoWars studios are probably 10 or more miles away, so that's good.

Did my wish posted earlier just possibly become reality? It sounds as though the initial trustee may not recommend the bankruptcy! Ultimately the trustee’s recommendation can be ignored, but in a case with such media attention if the trustee sets out specific and credible findings I would hope the recommendation would be adopted and the filing denied. It would be a wonderful defeat to Jones as well as a way to show that Chapter 11 isn’t always going to be allowed as an escape route for sleazeballs.

Jones appears to be receiving chunks of money via Bitcoin (SPLC article linked here). An anonymous donor sent him over US$1m in a bitcoin donation on 23rd April 2022.

By COB 27th April 2022 Jones had transferred $1,387,673.19 OUT of these Bitcoin wallets. Imagine being enough of an asshole to think that this asshole deserves to be given wads of money. I do wonder where the $$$ came from, although I have a few suspicions.

I hope the bankruptcy court is paying attention and is going to go after those assets as well.

He will be required to amend his bankruptcy pleading. If I recall correctly the Sandy Hook parents have already been awarded some money by way of attorneys’ fees so it’s possible they could put a lien on it if they have obtained a judgment. I am not familiar with crypto currency so I don’t know how it works in terms of liens so take that part of my comment with a big grain of salt but newly acquired wealth post-filing but pre-trustee review must be reported.

I'm sure all the family and friends of the small children and the brave staff who died at Sandy Hook will be first in line to sign the petition to give him that medal.  I'm picturing it as rather long, sharp, and suitable for impalement.

Well that's one way to get them to buy his products.

Quote

Alex Jones—the noted conspiracy theory and dubious health supplement pusher who founded InfoWars—lashed out at his viewers, demanding that they buy his products as a matter of "life and death."

In a video posted to Twitter, Jones ranted that his viewers should also give donations to fight the “war against you and your family of inflation and collapse."

For many, it seemed unclear what influenced Jones' outburst or his request that viewers also donate to longtime Republican political consultant Roger Stone's legal defense fund. Stone s icurrently under investigation for his role influencing the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers in their paritcipation in the January 2021 Capitol riot.

Alex Jones is a morally and ethically corrupt greed whore. SRSLY, Alex, life or death?  You just got a million dollar crypto currency influx.

Roger Stone is an evil incarnate rat fucker of the very highest order. I wonder if Roger has some kompromat on Alex Jones.

Remember back in 2018, when InfoWars' Alex Jones Appeared to Be Viewing Transgender Marissa Minx Pornography While Filming Personal Wellness Segment (Newsweek link, but this was widely reported)

Alex claimed that, just like everybody else, porn "pops up" on his cell phone every day all the time.
