nd they know that a lot of former VFers read FJ.

Ah, but how many current VFers listen to former VFers?

I should think they avoid them like the plague, to avoid being contaminated in their holy walk and all that.

Per an attorney friend of mine who has worked with IRS, the nonprofits that get complained about with some frequency will often get  some looking at. It does sound like there is just way too much lower level fraud going on for the IRS to catch it all.

That is good news.  I'd love for the IRS to take a look at so-called missionary clearing houses like http://gibmission.org/.  I bet their books are a complete mess and I wonder if it is actually legal.

Given the Facebook squabbles, I think some of them do still communicate and gossip wildly.

DPIART on the other hand says nothing spiritual now--I don't think.

He does on his Doug WP Facebook account. And I believe that one is the one known of by VF people.

I never know whether I should say "former and current VFers," since the business/ministry no longer exists and technically they are all "former." I just meant everybody, I guess.

And I find it really hard to believe that certain "currently VF" busybodies like Kelly Crawford, Stacy McDonald, and Jordan Niednagel don't read FJ. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it...

Ditto, all the juice is here on FJ and the perfect source for back-stabbing humble gossip, as in, Our precious brother/sister in Christ is currently struggling with (fill in the blank) and covets your prayers

(based on some very disturbing posts here on FJ detailing how rogue church prayer groups could be hotbeds of gossip, spreading details of a personal nature of fellow congregants under the guise of prayerful concern)

No, you're fine in my book. I mean, we know families locally who still hold firmly to VF precepts. "Just because DP* pulled a King David doesn't mean throwing the baby out with the bathwater." So I would say calling them "current" VF families is an accurate term.

I feel like many VF families have come a long way. It seems that people either sorta floundered in their faith (some of the most hardcore people, interestingly) or dug in and really examined what they were adhering to. I've seen a lot of growth away from legalism, etc.

I second whoever thinks it's Beall updating the VF page. It's got her snippy tone.

Annnnd, I do believe you are correct! I give you Exhibit A, posted on the VF Facebook page earlier today (screen shot below):

That's encouraging. I've seen some growth, not saying that I haven't. It's just discouraging to look at some families that are still stunting their kids and defending their choices, even after seeing their older kids walk away. It's not just families like the Jeubs (or have they started to grow? maybe they're not even VF and I'm mixing them up with someone else), but people we know IRL.

It only mentions Beall and the kids?

Does that mean DPIAT is fair game then?

Does that mean Beall has taken over what is left of VF? (as in, the idea... as nothing physical is left, right?)

That message that mentions only Beall and the kids is from last November. I don't think Beall is manning (pun intended) this page.  Maybe Joshua is or someone like Wesley  Strackbein. Or Doug. Only he and Joshua were that enthusiastic about the stupid Titanic glorification. It reads like Doug's pompous prose. It seems like everyone--even Joshua and Beall have moved on. But most of the followers are female.  I do find curious the Haiti entry from earlier this year:. Notice "Beall Phillips and Doug Phillips" NOT "Doug and Beall Phillips". Minor but maybe the separation of names speaks volumes?  All very curious.

I agree regarding the growth and moving away from staunch legalism in some of the families. Even Sarah Winston, nee Serven, is now an intern in a graphic design firm. That a long way away from sitting primly on the couch with McDonnald maidens with knitting/ neidle point boxes on their laps like some Victorian or Edwardian wannabes.

Also, I  must add that she started interning after the birth of her first child, I find that even more surprising. Go Sarah.

Well, well, well... Look who corrected Doug/Beall with a curt, "Her name is Melania": Elizabeth Daming, sister of Monica Daming, who is the wife of David Botkin! Dare they delete?

Nuts. All the cool stuff got deleted before I got there.

I agree with everyone who commented about Beall's dedication to keeping up appearances. (Her nickname should be Hyacinth "Bouquet.")  I still remember that howler in her email to Lourdes, in which she urged Lourdes not to "endanger her marriage prospects" by pursuing the case against DPIART.  It reeked of the fustiest possible Victorian novel.

J Tits and Delaney Sproul just got engaged as of today, according to fb photos.

Wonder if dougie even knows whats going on in his kid's lives or if he is too caught up in his recent manly adventures.

Monica's comment + edits are still there.

Wonder what prompted yesterday's outburst of rebuke -- Monica's edited comment? If so, why doesn't Beall un-publish it, per her Nov 2016 admonishment?

Nah, he's too busy filming and posting beauty tips from Flo. /snark

(Update: just checked the comments section and Doug hasn't said anything yet, though he did "love" the post.)

105 years ago the Titanic sank and I couldn't help but think of Dougie and his ridiculous "celebration". That right there should have made the VF crowd recoil in horror. Who does something like that to remember the death of so many people? But no, people showed up and nobody seemed to think anything was odd.

I wonder if some cheesy grifter will celebrate 9/11 in 2101?

I remember the first year he did it. Cashing in on Titanic fever of the time of course. I remember he used (pirated) the White Star symbol/letterhead on the invitation and I remember thinking "How presumptuous. I'm sure he didn't clear using this but how official it makes this look etc." Fortuitous.

Golly, Doug, I guess your dad was “morally inadequate,” at least according to you in 2007-ish.

“Especially fond to me are the memories of old days when I could visit in person or listen on tape to Mr. [Otto] Scott and Dr. R.J. Rushdoony (now with the Lord) as they would wax eloquent on subjects as diverse as the moral inadequacies of jazz…”

https://racistchurches.wordpress.com/2007/06/12/rj-rushdoony/

There is no way that Doug and Beall would have posted this on the old Vision Forum page. No way. The "softening" continues.

Am I reading an element of racism in this?  Here's a tidbit from the Wiki on R.J. Rushdoony

Quote

According to Frank Schaeffer, Rushdoony believed that interracial marriage, which he referred to as "unequal yoking", should be made illegal. He also opposed "enforced integration", referred to Southern slavery as "benevolent", and said that "some people are by nature slaves". Kerwin Lee Klein, however, argues that Rushdoony was not a "biological racialist" and that for him "racism founded on modern biology simply represented another pagan revival."

Also, I'm sure Doug's love of Ella F. has to do with his current 40s nostalgia gig.

His son Mark Rushdoony goes for the "he wasn't racist, just making Christians think twice before marrying someone with a very different cultural background because that can be difficult" explanation here http://chalcedon.edu/blog/2012/12/20/ask-chalcedon-racism/

As for the Jazz, they'd probably get out of that by the "anything of unchristian roots is bad, regardless of race, so it's not our fault that Jazz has African roots" line.  I wonder, do they complain about Sprituals as well? :P
